Nezumi wasn't the first to make the request, but it's been almost a year now. There was no response from the development team and no change to the AD.
When Select Same was first released, I thought this improvement would catch up quickly. Unexpectedly, the development team was really reluctant to make any changes to it. Very disappointing!

You  isunderstand what I am saying. Take for instance Microsoft Word or for that matter DrawPlus. In the Fonts pull down menu you can find the entry called Symbol which contains all the Greek letters. My question is why is this not implemented in Affinity Design?

    I got V1. And I loved it.
I jumped onto V2 when it came out, allowing me to use the latest version on my Mac, my Windows desktop and my iPad, thinking I was making a great move forwards.
Then I discovered some of the people I know only have v1, and didn't make that leap, and quite simply aren't going to, because of their customers, friends etc.
After all, not everyone is a graphic designer, happy to spend on the latest software. I'm certainly not!
(And if I was in the V1 Camp, I'd be doing my best to discourage people thinking of going to V2, only to be left behind!)

Without some form of backward compatible export, I either have to keep files in V2 and then recreate them using V1, copying across the layers into new documents, or I have to try to put it into an interim non-Affinity format like a PSD, with even more compatibility issues than V2 to V1, which seems counter-intuitive when we all want to live in the world of Affinity!
Backward compatibility is something we all take for granted. Of course V1 files may not support all of the V1 features. Of course some things might be lost in the export. But backwards compatibility is something that not having, splits the world of Affinity users into 2 camps. V1's and V2's, and there's no easy way of sharing or collaborating.
Why ever would a company that rivals Adobe for having a wonderful graphical package choose to alienate existing customers, or restrict new customers in such a terrible way?
Please please please can we encourage Affinity to create a v1 exporter, so that we can share our V2 love with those left behind, and help support V1 users for continuing with the product until it's right for them to invest in the benefits that V2 can bring.
I can see 2 clear ways forward, both of which would show a united front for Affinity software:
    1. An export from V2 to V1 compatible files
    2. The ability for V1 to open V2 files in read only mode, to then be able to extract/copy the layers into new files.
Let us find a way for Affinity users to unite, share resources, and all grow together.

Surely this is not an impossible request since most graphic design apps, even subscription based, support saving to earlier native versions or have a specific generic data exchange format or "maximum compatibility save mode" to be used across different versions (and especially different users of different versions). Perhaps a kind of PDF encapsulation would be possible within native Affinity version formats, so that features not supported would be handled similarly as e.g. Warp groups are when copied from version 2 to 1 apps via Clipboard?

I guess this will be a topic for many Users who are collaborating with other Affinity users still on V1. I have both versions of the Affinity suite, and am a bit hesitant to edit v1-documents because of the incompatibility with v1-apps. Is there any way to somehow "save as" or "export" v2-documents from the v2-app to the v1-document-format, perhaps with a friendly warning that one might lose some new features?
Otherwise this would be a weird situation, Designer can open Illustrator files from all versions (which Illustrator cannot do), but cannot export into its very own format of the predecessor...
Btw: Copying from V2 and paste it into V1 seems to work, even the controls for a cog shape still works.

But fixing an obvious bug is not the same as a random feature request. This really limits the usefulness for those creating complex documents with multiple artboards.

+1 bump. I just upgraded to 1.9 and was very excited about the Select Same feature (really the only thing holding me back from using Designer full time instead of Illustrator). Unfortunately, much like you, the way this feature is currently implemented is tantalizingly useless. Until I can limit it to only visible objects, or have locked objects not be included in the selection, it doesn't help. It's so close, yet so far.

In the interest of visibility I'm going to throw in my 2 cents. I mentioned this in relation to another thread regarding the scope of the Select All/Same functionality. Wouldn't it be a simple fix to just expand the scope of the lock function to exclude locked objects from all manipulations, including selecting same attributes?
I am a game developer and primarily use Select Same on duplicated items that I wish to recolor quickly. In it's current iteration Select Same is only marginally better than just selecting objects individually. Since locked items are not immune to the Select Same parameters I typically have to cut or copy the objects onto a separate document in order to prevent altering my locked originals, this is a workable solution but hardly ideal for efficiency especially given my scope.

As it stands now, the select features are a nice addition, but are frustratingly all encompassing. They really should let you limit its scope as far down as to a group.
While I can see the benefits to having it select things across your entire project, it certainly shouldn't be the default and only option.

I dont know how many times somebody wants to work on multiple artboards at the same time - I think it should work just for the active one. At least as default behavior.

And what clearly looks like a bug is that this functionality ignores locked artboards. The lock isn't working basically. We can feel safe after locking artboard and then delete part of it by accident.

I guess I will just post that in bug section then.

There doesn't seem to be any way to do this. Even disabling Edit All Layers doesn't help.

Maybe I am missing something, but is there a way to limit these new functions so they work just for one, selected artboard?
If I want to select all text on the artboard I am working on and ALL text is selected across multiple artboards function becomes useless... I tried locking other artboards but it still is selecting elements across all of them. Whats more - you can even move elements selected in this way while artboard is technically locked. I tried turning on visibility of other artboards but this also didnt worked.
Long story short - if I am not missing anything - can you please make possible to use these new tools only in the active artboard? They work great on single page, but to use them with multiple artboards this is a must in my opinion.
Thanks for the great improvements in 1.9!

Thank you, yes this would be ideal to have styles like this, hopefully affinity implements something like this!

This is another situation where proper object graphic styles (not what Affinity currently calls graphic styles) would help tremendously.  You'd assign one style to all the curves which need to have the same stroke width, regardless of how the curves are grouped, nested, or even what pages they are on.  Then you'd make one change to the style and all the curves assigned to that style would instantly update.
This is, for strokes and fills, exactly the sort of behavior you get from text styles for text, and is the behavior most vector graphic programs provide under the name "graphic style".  Affinity really needs to supplement their current "preset" behavior with actual assignable, live graphic styles.
My 1st paragraph simplifies a little bit, because you have both strokes and fills to consider.  So you'd want build a graphic style hierarchy which lets you distinguish all the various different regions on your characters, using inheritance to make it as simple as possible to update stroke widths.

    Hi,
Please see the video for a better description of what I mean.
    https://www.loom.com/share/9f45690b749843728a3584690db2ebdb
Basically, I thought this was a bug a few years ago when I started using Affinity Designer and I posted on this forum but the response was that this is by design.
But I've just done another book with tens and tens of characters. And it is SOO hard to change the stroke weight of all the characters because all the nested shapes are not affected. It is simply not feasible to go in to each instance of a character and drill down, change the lineweight of the nested shapes every time.
Characters need to have variable line weights so that they can be placed in different scenes and make sure their line weights are appropriate for the context. And the reason that I nest shapes inside other shapes instead is for economical reason. For example, if I want to make slight adjustments to characters, in a turnaround for example, I can just move the internal shapes around to create a slightly different angle on the character, for example front, front 3/4 and side angles. Nesting shapes in their parent shapes means you don't have to mess around with masks. If the parent shape changes, you have to make sure that the mask is also changed. It would just be so much simpler, quicker and make production so much more efficient if nested shapes were able to have their stroke changed with the parent.
PLEASE can you make a tick box or something to have stroke width affect all nested shapes, just like there is a tick box for 'Lock Children' when scaling
    I would be eternally grateful.
    Many thanks.
