    Vega,

When you have calmed down..... It seems that this setting was overlooked when we last upgraded the forums, and had gone back to the forum default of username only. I have just checked the Admin UI and was pleased to find that "username OR email" is an option (it has annoyed me too, though far less than you clearly).

Please retry, and keep the personal insults to a minimum or you may find the forum regulars less interested in assisting you. We "fools" who work here have less choice in the matter, but still have some.

Designer deserves all the publicity, including this. Time to help a bit? If you are a member of any photo or graphics art related forums, maybe you could post a friendly message about the matter and ask people to cast a vote for Designer.

Halftoning effectively blurs the edges of line art.
A printer (imagesetter) has a fixed resolution. All it actually print is printer spots of the same size. Printer spots are the actual hardware resolution of the imagesetter (typically 3000 or more spots per inch).
Halftone dots are made up of printer spots..Each dot in a halftone is a collection of printer spots, trying to simulate a circle..The number of different circle sizes possible is therefore determined by the number of printer spots available to simulate them. Divide the number of available printer spots (SPI) by the halftone ruling (LPI), and that's the theoretical number of different-size halftone dots (levels of grey) the device can print. That's why you always get more banding from, say, a 600 SPI laser printer than you do from a 3000 SPI imagesetter.
Everything in a greyscale image gets halftoned. That means the raster is printed as halftone dots, at the line ruling of the halftone screen (typically 150 lines per inch). It also becomes effectively anti-aliased by the halftoning.process.That's why black text that is part of a raster image looks fuzzy compared to black vector text stacked in front of a raster image.
1 bit raster objects do not get halftoned at all. They are simply "filled in" with tiny printer spots. So it's common practice to, for example, create or scan line art (think of the inking of a comic book illustration) as 1-bit rasters at something like 1200 PPI, which overlay grayscale or full color raster images. The color artwork prints as 1/150th inch halftone dots. But the 1-bit raster actually prints as 1/1200th-inch squares, giving a crisp, sharp-edged, aliased (not anti-aliased) appearance.
You can sort of think of 1-bit color depth as the "vector" version of raster imaging in that exactly what you've "drawn" simply gets "filled in" with the tiniest printer spots of the given output device. Take a look at this PDF: Zoom into it as far as you can. Tell me if you think it is raster image or a vector line.

    Hi!

Do you see something suitable here?

It is the DAUB Pencils Mk2 set, with a 2k seamless texture and brand new settings.
Unfortunately it doesn't work on AffinityPhoto for iPad because the features needed to make it work are not yet there.
Also please note the old DAUB Pencils doesn't work properly for the same reason.
Basically this effect cannot be reached on iPad yet... Sorry...

Yes, I remember all that. Freehand was such a joy, very practical for design. A shout in favor of Illustrator would be in terms of... illustration. For inking (line art, comics), it is absolutely useful and convenient ) like the capability of "re purpose" a line you just inked, by tracing since its start (if you have all configured in certain way!). This speeds up the workflow crazily, and is not found in other apps.  Although for inking these days I prefer raster tools (some highly specialized ones at that), just personal take.  I would have preferred if both packages would have been maintained, but focusing illustrator much more in... er... illustration, Freehand, in its line for graphic design, was perfect. Even Corel Draw had since then cleverer solutions than Illustrator, once Freehand was ditched....

Some ideas, in the order I'd try them :

1- Yes, the first one I'd try would be to directly apply for example the "Windows 7" theme (or any of  the others, you can reduce effects manually later on) . And reboot, just in case. But you mentioned "aero does not work".....A bit surprised, as you have rounded stuff and UI things that are not classic UI. It's obviously loading all, and you have the full entire list of features checked... even much more than I have, and I load my A. Designer no problems with just the very basic of Aero that Affinity needs (ie, I don't actually notice Aero is ON other than the UI being a bit more modern, when hovering cursor over tasks and some other different Aero features, but I have the glass effect disabled, also sounds, cursor's shadow, desktop icon text shadows, etc, etc) . It seems the Affinity installation is what is not recognizing it, even while Aero IS ON, clearly.... (sounds as an install/registry thing on a particular scenario. Windows has this issue often. )

2- If that doesn't work (seems it does not) , go and try by manually check just the "adjust for best appearance"  , but NOT the "let windows decide" that you have now ON, neither adjust for best performance or custom. That one probably has some possibilities. Then reboot as with other options.  Heck, if that doesn't work, I'd first would try all options, so, also setting them custom and the performance one.
I don't know the A. installation internals, so who knows what can trigger or disable the registry flag or whatever is avoiding the thing to happen.

3- Third scenario, nothing of that works, then I'd just fully uninstall, and I mean ensuring quite that the software apps are totally uninstalled, both Affinity Photo and Designer.  And I mean, also the customer betas, all, everything from Affinity. (once done, at this point I am the kind of guy that I search the registry, see what was left, but please don't do that if you are not a registry expert... I'm almost certain 9 times out 10 when a user not knowing how to deal with Windows Registry gives it a try, wrecks something...anyway, having a look doesn't wreck anything...changing keys or values does....) Then, REBOOT, then, being very sure a full Aero theme is fully ON, install the 2 apps (if you have both) again . Even reboot again after that, just in case.

If in third case it does not either work, I know how to deal the stuff in registry, but wont say any more here, that's sth that Serif's support might want to give you advice about, through a private channel: by forum PMs or better, direct email (write them at their email support's address).

I hope it helps somehow. I'm just a Windows/Affinity user.

It often goes more according to Murphy....

Ah, okidoki. Then... I wont suggest it, as you know what's needed to be done if nothing works, to entirely "uninstall" apps from registry when they do not want to go...
But as you already know, then, is best if it goes well with the previous methods, instead (a mere full uninstall).

IMO is just an install not fully gone away, so is not recognizing the new system status... That's just what I suspect.  I'll track this thread (well, I track all threads where I post in, and check many I don't track...) to see if it solved it...just out of curiosity.

IMPORTANT TIp : have you tried just setting in "performance" tall window you show up there, as you did before, but as CUSTOM (not appearance, not performance) but ensuring  "Enable desktop composition"  is checked ?  This would be super important.

Windows what flavor ?  Aero is supported  in Ultimate, Home Premium, Business editions.
Have you checked if the program folders' files (and the ones in subfolders, etc) get actually deleted ?
Seems is a 750 ti 4gb, outdated, but a nice card. Sth to keep while the card prices start to go down thanks to new specific cards for the miners arriving...
I just put that weird v. card code in google , and popped immediately  a thread at topaz studios forums where you (something johan + the specs....just can be you... ) posted, where they pointed that you could have an issue with your card. But then changed it by this one. So, IMO surely is sth system related, not video card related....they said the "database on your side" was messed up. This can be a sign of sth going not too well in your system... Windows corrupts itself easily in certain intensive scenarios...

And well, after -edited- 7 minutes search, as i was curious about it.... :You can try this : in the themes windows, in Windows Color & Appearance, ensure that Enable Transparency is checked.

Your graphics card supports WDDM.... it'd be super weird that one of the most sold v. cards from nvidia wouldn't run in Windows with Aero.,

Services Manager. Ensure that ‘Desktop Windows Manager’ Service is set on Automatic. [  I'll add: You in a PC cleaning moment, or caused by a software during install, which might have set it as manual and stopped]

if all fails, you can try to execute this line in the cmd, in command line (you come from Linux, sure you know how to handle that (you can even set a direct icon or access at the Windows task bar, below)) :

    rundll32.exe Dwmapi.dll,DwmEnableComposition

Which seems forces the thing to work.

    Another  tips :
Start->Run->regedit->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Themes. Check "DependOnService". If the value is something like "IThemes5.dll", double click it, delete it from the value data, then restart your computer. Should be fixed. Also scanning for malware afterwards would be a good idea.

Again, these is advice from random ppl .
have you tried to run the Aero specific trouble shooter wizard by having checked "apply repairs automatically".Also, setting display aero settings as ON.

As a recollection of things, I'm reading also you can restart the Windows Manager just with 2 commands in console, in CMD : net stop uxsms and net start uxsms : be sure to  run all CMD terminals with admin rights (right click, (the shield icon) )  . These commands force a Desktop Window Manager Service restart.

Nope, I don't believe so. Specially if ppl keep coding in certain ways...
About responsiveness... latest improvements (tho there's the eternal issue : Browsers do need to adapt to that, and there's always a resistance for new stuff) in HTML and CSS make even redundant a lot of responsive work. Meaning, already the new css and html features do designs that are responsive since start. but IMO, still not there at 100%. We still need media queries and other tricks, but I can see how it can all be reduced, all that work.

Coffeecup !!! yep, a blast from the past. These were of the very much Serif's nature. Friendly approach and prices. How was the name back in the 90s ? Hotdog ? or sth like that, their HTML editor. Due to this thread been reviewing their products.. they have a very nice free tools section. Their free html editor has very good looking manners... I'm gonna try and review both Pinegrow and this one, this week....

    https://www.coffeecup.com/free-editor/

Their desktop commercial solution ("no code" , says its slogan ) looks great  ,  ouch, another thing I would like to test.... freakin' curiosity.

    https://www.coffeecup.com/designer/

IMO, stil a bit pricey, not that they don't deserve it, and it is still TONS better than subscription software (and is not just the top company, several are doing this, so, hats off to anyone in the line of this people and Serif ) , but if you see some great competitors' price (ie, Pinegrow 3x times cheaper, if I remember well (EDIT: not really. The ~100 bucks Pinegrow version is the one using master pages and reusable chunks... sth already included in the one and only version of Cofeecup's.. so is more of a 100 / 189$, so , not that different. ) ) ....  IMO, both editors are VERY interesting, at least from a first look. I rememeber Hotdog or however was the funny name, included free old versions in magazine CDs (another common factor with Serif) to be very well thought for everyday usage, clean code, UI and etc. That's a pro. Like with Serif, I'm amazed these companies are still alive after all this time.

Anyone of the older audience see a reference to the great Larry Leisure Suit game here (the illustration) ? Or some other US reference am not aware of ?
    https://www.coffeecup.com/freestuff/

Edit # 9283923 : Truth said, a regular web designer WOULD need the Pro Pinegrow version... but what ppl tend to ask around here is just static, landing (or not) pages... P. Pro features are more about that, so i guess a lot of the niche asking for it is fine with the standard version....  "master pages" anyway are sth (extremely useful) that for example in serious front-end work is taken care of by Ruby On Rails or similar environment, at a company (in the past, any server scripting would take care of that). You'd make your calls and includes as needed, as a front-end person, and same with PHP or other language/environment. Again, a freelancer working from home (but yep as a remote worker for a company, been there for years) might not be using ROR (PHP is more common in those cases, ) and the Pro version makes a lot of sense for them (or the Design version of Coffeecup). But even in freelancing, you are often asked to do your work integrated in sth existing, some form of database, whatever the flavor. A lot of times is just a CMS, there your marvelous wysiwyg serves for very little....  Nice that Pinegrow has a Wordpress dedicated version, at 149... who knows, maybe they'd add Drupal and others, at some point... I've edited Prestashop e-commerce sites... I'd see much harder to do that entirely visually, tho. Need to deal a lot with the hosting/server stuff, database and hand coding.

A term I patented today. Is just that we were talking about the capability of a change being done with drag and drop actions getting directly its output to the code window, and a change done in the code window that can be automatically seen, even if needed a forced refresh, in the preview window instead of needing to actually preview in the browser. I always used the browser for things other than a very first raw construction. As the browsers have their own rendering engine and a whole collection of particular issues. As far as I remember, very old DW (way older than CS3)  version had this menu option of "preview in browser A" , or in the others.... By the time it was IE and Netscape, talk about Jurassic times... I don't believe I have used it in the Firefox and Chrome era... or did I.
