Me too! (On iOS)

I've just come across this myself. Document > Transparent Background does not force the alpha channel to be saved. The only workaround I have found is to make one pixel 99% opaque.

This is the same for me, unfortunately - to the point where the brush is unusable. I read elsewhere that turning rulers off might help but it had no noticeable effect. Quad core i7 iMac with 24gb.
