Trying to learn and get used to this.. I’m not really an artist, but more like a crafts man.. but love to draw acanthus scrolls :-)

Some months ago I was drawing some scrollwork for a skull project in Procreate, and today I was learning a little more about masking.. so I combined these in affinity photo on the iPad Pro :-)
    hope it’s not too bad!

That doesn't sound possible, to me. Or I don't understand what you're asking for.
First, a picture is just pixels, and doesn't really have a DPI intrinsically. DPI only comes into play when you're printing it, and all the picture really has is a pixel count. That is, if you have a picture that is 600px by 600px then it has 360,000 pixels and  it's just a square, with no intrinsic size.
You can say that you want to print it as a 2" by 2" picture, and at that point you know that when printed it must have 300 DPI, because 600/2 = 300. Only when you specify the output size do you know what the DPI must be.
Or you could say that you want it to be 6" by 6" picture, which would mean that when printed it would have 100 DPI, because 600/6 = 100.

Now, suppose you crop that picture to give you 300px by 300px.
You could print it as 1" by 1" (with 300 DPI), 3" by 3" (with 100 DPI), 6" by 6" (with 50 DPI), etc. You have one set of pixels, and without making more of them (resampling) the print size is determined by the DPI you choose to print at. You cannot take that "chunk" of pixels and print it larger or smaller while keeping the DPI  the same and without resampling. If you don't resample, you either have to change the DPI or you have to keep the size the same.

Better yet, if you like it enough to want to keep it, purchase a copy! It’s very inexpensive at the quoted full price, and it’s currently on sale at half price.

Thanks for confirming that, Gabe. The “expected and correct” behaviour still seems unexpected and incorrect!

    Hello All,
I am a newbie. I was exploring to make new designs. I bumped upon this attached cover page. It has an engraving look, I tried to do it also checked youtube for engraving text or shapes but could not replicate it closely. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

I grabbed a colour chart from the Internet, converted it to vector in CorelDRAW, exported as a WMF, imported into Affinity Designer and from there created this palette. I don't guarantee that all the colours are completely accurate and of course, accuracy in something like this is pretty subjective. Anyway, I hope this is of use to people and enjoy! It may be best viewed as a list in the swatch palette since then you can see the names. I have been including Trainspotting orange in every palette I have created in every program I have used since the film came out! My signature colour!

That’s very odd! Any time I’ve tried to perform geometry operations with unclosed curves in either of the Affinity apps, the app has automatically closed the curves for me.

It would be helpful if the labels in the Layers panel distinguished between closed and unclosed curves.

Is there any way to get an easier to see indicator of the enabled/disabled state of options like this apart from the (IMO so unnecessarily) thin gray outline & the slight background color change? I tried changing the Preferences > Interface > Background Gray Level but that makes very little difference. As it is, it is very easy to tap this by accident & not notice it.
<rant> Once again, this all too trendy UI design preference for low contrast, overly subtle indicators has compromised usability & steepened the learning curve unnecessarily, without providing any actual benefit other than someone's idea of what would make the UI look "prettier" or "more modern." It is the same issue that eventually resulted in the light UI option for the desktop apps (which still misses the point)!
After all, if nothing else what would be the downside of making the circle pure white?  </rant>

BobsDaubs got a reaction from dizeyner in How to feather in Affinity Designer
You might want to try feathering the edge by applying a gaussian blur. Click on the fx icon at the bottom of the layers panel and tick the gaussian blur option. Adjust the slider to get the amount of feather (blur) you want. The slider only goes to 100 pixels, but you can get a higher value by typing a number in the box at the end of the slider.

Added a Bitmap fill for the texture and tweaked with fx for shadows and blur like Bobdaubs mentioned.

BobsDaubs reacted to FlynnAffinity in My text is always bolded!
I struggled with this for about an hour, looking around on the Internet for anything that was helpful.  Couldn't find anything other than how to change the styles.  My styles are off, but the text still looked bolded.
Finally found it.  A stroke size was set.  Not sure how that happened, but it did.  I was drawing rectangles with a 2px stroke in between text boxes.
Anyway, while the text tool was on, I selected the stroke option, clicked on 'none', everything is right again.
Thought others may want to know.  Apologies if this is repeating oft repeated information.
