Im not sure how useful or good they are, but I made some vector brushes.. useful for me, and if anyone can use them, here you go :-)
i made them for the love of vintage lettering styles, and I use it for backgrounds, like the old Sanborn Maps style..
Anyway, as I’m quite new to brush making, I’m sure they can be improved, and if I do, I’ll update them here :-)
hope it it will be useful for some :-) and they can be downloaded from here..
feel free to give feedback.. good or bad is welcome as long as it is constructive:-)

    Hi everybody,
Must be a couple of years since my last post, Ive been busy raising kids and other stuff, I decided to load up Designer the last few days to see whats new.  Some software feels so alien when you don't use it for ages, Designer feels like slipping on an old pair of comfy shoes, nice! So here is my efforts.

    3. Re-built all Brush Nozzles using updated vector raster brush elements and removed transparencies and any other old effects!
    4. The old brush set was appearing darker and less intense with 1.7/1.8 update...I have fixed that with this version!
    6. Updated the Sample Sheets to newer (latest) layout.
    7. Naming arranged to match the raster versions...mostly!

    Hi walt,
Yes, they support and that's what Oval is referring to. Affinity Designer/Photo already supports them. To use clipping paths in Affinity Designer/Photo and export as JPG's do the following:
open the image you want  create the clipping path with the Pen Tool as usual (make sure it's then filled with a color - any color will do) drag the path layer over the thumbnail of the image layer in the Layers panel (you should see a small vertical blue line appear when you drag the path layer over the thumbnail of the image layer - drop it at that point. You have nested the path to the image layer. click the thumbnail of the path layer in the Layers panel to select it, then double-click on the path layer again to give it a name - fill in the name you want (you need to do this so you can later select this path in InDesign/Photoshop) go to File Export select JPG, set the options you want as usual, then click the More button and tick Convert clips to paths. Export the file. You will find the clipping path(s) in the Paths panel if you open the JPG in Adobe Photoshop. Conversely JPG's with clipping paths saved in Photoshop will open as vector masks nested to the image layer in Affinity Designer/Photo.

    Hi danklim,

Try this. Go to File>New  When the dialog box opens make sure to tick the box for Transparent Background. The file will then have a transparent background.

BobsDaubs reacted to MattP in Affinity Publisher - Sneak Preview
There's no 'priority' issue here. I'm the Project Manager (and Lead Developer) of Affinity Designer, so I'm busy working on my next release (AD for iPad) whereas we have a whole team of developers working on Affinity Publisher and have had for a long time now. My post was really about apologising I've not been around as much as usual (because I'm very busy!) and about reassuring you that Publisher is still coming along nicely from what I can see... I'll move on to help out the team with Publisher imminently, sure, but it's not like there's been a pause while everyone waits for my help!  They're much better at Publisher-specific stuff than me anyway, so I just need to help out in the areas that I'm good at! As with any of our products, they won't be released until we're actually happy with them, because at the end of the day, nobody wants software that doesn't really 'work' properly!
It's difficult from my perspective to imagine what we could have done here to make customers feel less frustrated by the lack of progress?... Development of good software is often an iterative process - it's SO unlikely you'll just hit the sweet-spot on your first go at typing something and you'll need to start again with new knowledge and try something a little different - that process is notoriously terribly difficult to estimate how long it takes. In a world where it only matters if something actually works or not, then maybe your first go would've been good enough and maybe timescales are easier to guess, but we're looking for a great solution, not just any solution... So Publisher seems to be taking a while when viewed from the outside - but there's no 'problem' here, everything is going great and we're converging on something special - but rushing to reach a goal before it's truly ready would just be a terrible idea and would setup the product very badly for the future. I think the 'teaser' video for Publisher we released was partly to show that it really was happening, and partly because we're really excited to show it to you! The guys working on the product are doing their job, but it's also something they're passionate about, so they're proud of their work and want you to enjoy it. The alternative was for us to have never said anything about Publisher at all but then customers would just wonder what we were doing that was meaning we weren't updating Photo/Designer very often recently and then would get frustrated. Hang in there - it's on its way and it's going to be good!

BobsDaubs reacted to Alfred in AffDes (Mac) : Can still modify locked object
That’s the way I think it should be. We should be able to select a locked object either on the canvas or in the Layers panel, but only so that we can unlock it. Although there may be an argument for keeping a locked object editable, we certainly shouldn’t be able to transform it (i.e. move, resize, rotate or skew it) without explicitly unlocking it first.
The way it is now seems completely the wrong way around to me, but what do I know?

Happy to accept recommendations of a better way to achieve this look?
How would you go about it? Is that different to how I've gone about it?

Maybe it would be better for me to group the objects into different depths, each with a different z-order and drop shadow?

BobsDaubs reacted to folio94 in lock guides
    Good afternoon from Paris (France)

Since I use Affinity Designer I am regularly confronted to problem with guides.
Often when I move an object or when I resize it, I often capture the closest guide.

In the new release of Inkscape, they have added a new feature where you can lock the guide so that you can't then modify them by mistake.

May I suggest news evolutions about guides ?

The possibility to lock them On mouse over the possibility od displaying a tooltip with the value and then inside the UI we should find a lock pictogram to active it and retrieve this feature inside the guide's pop-up aswell as a checkbox like "Lock guides". The ability to export guides as a layer. What do you think about that ?

    Warm regards.

BobsDaubs reacted to Clayton in [APh] Feathering Tool
Oh man, I just had the BEST IDEA for feathering.  :)

Don't make it an effect from the effects modal, but instead, make it an actual tool and base it on how the corner tool works. You select a node (or multiple nodes, or the whole object) and drag out an inset from those nodes, just like the corner tool... but instead of rounding the corner, it creates a feathered edge based on the distance you dragged from the node. So you can feather different nodes in different amounts for anything from realistic shadows to detailed shading. Maybe the tool could also work on segments, so you could have things like sharp transitions from a feathered edge to a hard edge.

Honestly, I think this could push the need for a mesh fill tool way out there, maybe even replacing it. Especially with the edge functionality!

    Hi guys,
I've recently completed this new artwork using all vectors. The challenge had been to avoid 3D modelling while reaching a similar effect with the power of lights inside Affinity Designer. I used Affinity Photo only to apply the light effect on the in-graphics vintage poster, simulating a rudimental light from up left corner.
    Hope you appreciate.
