  1. I've just tested the font you mention - and as you can see from the screenshot, your statement just isn't true.

Here's Illustrator on the top, Designer on the bottom - absolutely identical.

EDITED: I've just found that the Windows version does indeed have a bug that we'll sort out asap, sorry. I tested and included screenshots of the Mac version and this is the benchmark for intended behaviour.

@MattP  I have a couple of questions related to this thread and I don't  mean this in a mean way. I am just trying to gather information and hopefully help this to move along better in the future.

My first question is why would you first test a problem or question about AD Windows beta on the AD Mac version? I realize that the written word is easy to misunderstand the context or tone that is intended, but I found the answers given by some of the moderators appeared to be kind of snarky. The answers probably weren't meant to sound that way, but that is the way I perceived it. If the problem had been tested in AD Windows beta first instead of AD Mac none of the dialogue that sounded snarky would have been necessary. You and Dave Harris and TonyB could have saved a lot of time writing responses and asking questions of the original poster that were unnecessary.

So, my next question is that don't you all think that maybe you should test a Windows beta problem in the Windows version and then compare it to the Mac version if you need to check the benchmark for intended behavior?   :)
  2. The help file in designer says to temporarily override snapping: press the alt key while you're positioning an object. Snapping won't occur while the key is depressed.

I think this is a cool feature as sometimes snapping is irritating when you are positioning an object. Rather than having to turn snapping off, you can just press the alt key while positioning the object. Then release the alt key after positioning and AD returns to normal snapping function. Just be aware if you press alt before you start moving the object, the object will be duplicated. To disable snapping temporarily, you need to press alt after you start moving the object.

As Dominik said use CTRL+drag to position an object and still allow snapping to work. Hope this helps.

  3. The short answer is "no". But Affinity Designer does a lot of things similar to the way they are done in Illustrator, so you can do some things pretty much the same. Other things are done differently and require a "workaround" to accomplish it. Affinity Designer is a brand new program that is still in the developmental stage and it currently doesn't have some of the features or tools of Illustrator. As time goes by more features will be added to AD (Affinity Designer) and it will probably be closer to Illustrator (AI).

The good news for you is that you don't have much history with AI so you can just jump into AD and learn it without having to unlearn AI workflow. AD has a pretty good help section and there are a lot of videos available to help you learn. There are new videos being created frequently by Serif and by other users of the software. I hope this helped to answer your question.
