  1. No. My workaround is that I create a text file that specifies every individual font and style used for each document . . . I have also created a special font folder in Suitcase that holds all fonts used in Affinity products . . . I'll just have to hunt and peck fonts until I get all my legacy files updated . . .
  2. Thanks, I will give it a shot. Old Bruce, I am also an Old Bruce and am old school. I do not preformat my text at the beginning of any project. I place all the text and then organically and manually shift the type around and decide what the styles should be as I see how the type flows within the document. In InDesign I would create styles after I had set most of the text knowing that I would probably have to make some adjustments after styling everything . . All new text boxes were whatever font and type size was set as the app default. The text size was always set on proper leading say 12/14 or 12/15. Publisher automatically sets it solid (12/12, 14/14, etc) which is a PITFA.
  3. How do I set Publisher so that there are no text styles applied when I create a new text box? NO STYLES is selected in paragraph and character menus yet I am still getting formatted text when I create a new text box. I want plain, unstyled text that I format myself. Publisher is my least favorite app of the Affinity Suite because it doesn't work like most page layout apps behave . . . It operates too much like MS Effin' Word and not like the llate Pagemaker, Quark, or InDesign . . .
  4. I simply place a linked eps or svg file into Publisher and cannot apply a stoke like I can to a jpg or png. The eps or svg does not contain any images and are a representation of a printed page. It is not an irregular shape and is a rectangle. I need to apply a black stroke so that the edges of the white page are defined against the white page. I have to use the FX function OUTLINE to apply a stroke. This outline function is based on pixels rather than points. Publisher is a print app and should not be creating outlines based on pixels . . . that is more appropriate to Photo I suppose . . . See attached. The example is of a sign with a white border but the issue is the same. Don't worry about the type being messed up if you don't have the font on your system. What is important is the border. test.afpub
  5. The text frame text inset scale needs to be changed. Right now when you click the arrow to set the inset, the scale is in inches. This is way too high. The scale should be set in decimal inches (.1, .2, .3 etc). I have never used text insets based on inches in my 25+ year career. I have used mostly .125 to .25 of an inch. I could set that feature measured in inches would be very useful in Designer as I work at full scale and perhaps also in Photo.
  6. Can anybody explain why I cannot stroke a linked eps or svg file (they do have four distinct sides)? I have no problems with png or jpg. Also when using the outline feature in FX it is not like the stroke function where you can change joins, corners, etc. And the pixel size of the stroke has no correlation whatsoever with the point size in the stroke function. The outline stroke should be measured the same way as the stroke function . . . in points
  7. Using Affinity Photo 2 on macOS Ventura 13.1 It happens almost all the time; even with new files No add-ons except backup drive; even does it with drive disconnected 1. Selection tool scale is off; trying to select a pixel size from 1 to about 170 with precision is almost impossible 2. The selection circle doesn't always respond to the pixel size selected in top menu bar. When a low number of pixels is selected in the tool menu the circle will stay at the previous size
  8. This has been the standard behavior with all files in AD 1 and 2 when an AD file is opened (no pdfs involved) that has fonts missing when used in conjunction with Suitcase Fusion (SF). SF, at least to my knowledge and with this version of SF, is not officially supported. The two work fine together unless a font is missing. I assume what I am seeing is standard behavior because of this fact. It has always worked this way and I assumed it was because of the unofficial support. A. This popup upon opening the file shows the missing font names and then disappears quickly B. The missing font has a question mark in front of the name; no style is identified (regular, bold, italic etc) C. The character menu also does not show the style The reason this has popped up again is because I have to update old files that did not have their file fonts in the Aff. Designer type folder in SF for activation. Fonts are automatically activated in the SF font folder for Aff. Designer. The fonts used that are in Google fonts (in SF) also automatically update Designer files when activated. The only issue is that font styles are not recognized when opening a Designer file. When activating the font with the proper style in SF, after not being identified in Designer when opening the file, Designer is suddenly able to identify the style and update itself. In SF if the font is bold, selecting any other style does nothing. If I select bold, it works and update Designer!
  9. This is an old non-subscription version of SF. It still works perfectly fine. Although not specifically supported with Serif apps, it does work. I can also create folders that work with specific applications. The connection between Designer 2 and Suitcase Fusion (SF) it what intrigues me. Unless SF is somehow doing all the heavy lifting, Designer 2 is unable to identify the font style when the file is opened yet does recognize the style when activated in SF.
  10. Whenever I have missing fonts in a file, Designer 2 can identify the family name but it cannot identify the style when the file is opened. I use Suitcase Fusion 20.0.7 as a font manager. When I find the family name it lists all the styles in the family (regular, bold, etc) In Suitcase Fusion I can click on the style to activate the font. If I happen to click on the correct style, Designer 2 will update the font immediately. If I don't click on the correct style nothing happens in Designer 2. But if I continue to activate different styles I will eventually hit the right one and it will update in Designer 2. Because of the time involved when fonts go missing I have created a font list for every project so that I don't have to hunt and peck for the correct style. Question: If Designer 2 can identify the correct font style when it is activated in Suitcase Fusion, why can't it identify the font style when the project file is first opened up? Designer 1 worked the same way.
  11. I have a file with formatted type. 3D and outline. When I cut and paste it into another file I cannot change the type size. I can still change the font and layer effects Added I just created new text in this document and I cannot change the text size.
  12. Is there a way to copy text attributes from one text block to another text block with out having to set up character and paragraph styles? I know the comparison of Adobe products can't be avoided . . . I can select a block of text and then select the eyedropper tool and click on another block of text and all its attributes will be transferred - size, font, color, etc. If I have eight blocks of individual words (using Designer) and I finally get the text attributes the way I want them, can I quickly transfer those attributes to the other text blocks I am an old school analog-to-digital typographer/designer that designs on the fly. I don't preset all my text parameters at the beginning because I am constantly changing things. Once I am happy with the design then I go in and format the entire document. With InDesign I have the ability to highlight text and create a style from it with a right-click command. Adobe has really screwed up their main product line - Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Used them recently on a job and they are SO BLOATED and operationally confusing nowadays. I do like AP and AD but feel Publisher is the biggest one of the three that falls short Thanks.
  13. In most other apps standard behavior is to: 1. Color the text, stroke the text 2. Color the entire text box background 3. Assign a stroke to the text box This way I don't have to create a second box, put it behind the text box in the exact position, and then group them to keep them together.
  14. Are we ever going to get the ability to assign a color to a text box that colors the text box and not the space in-between the letters? Also the ability to stroke the test box. I'm really getting frustrated with the lack of development of Affinity apps . . . Make some desperately needed changes and double the prices . . . k
  15. An online search, the help function, and search here in forums show nothing. Does Affinity Photo had a tab ruler to set tabs?
  16. I duplicated the layer and it somehow allowed the selection tool to now enable the Edit>Fil with primary color to appear and work. Don't know what duplicating the layer has to do with this, I was unable to use the fill command before the duplication as it was greyed out . . .
  17. I'm not finding any "lock alpha" anywhere. AP search reveals nothing either . . . only a "protect alpha" in the brush context menu at top which is unchecked. there is also no "edit " to uncheck in the channels panel . . . using AP v 1.10.5
  18. In photoshop an imported transparent png does not have an "object border". AP does and it prevents me from coloring the object. It is multiple colors and I want to fill it completely with black. When I try to color it the entire "border area" fills in with black and not the object of the transparent png. I can't find a way to accomplish this. Is there a way to eliminate this "border" that is defining what this image is?
  19. DOH! Placed the original. Funny how it can't stroke it's own product . . . Thanks for pointing that out
  20. When I place (link) photos into publisher, at times I cannot apply a stroke to the frame (not a picture frame). I just placed three photos, all jpgs, and I cannot apply a stroke to one of them. It does not show up in the submenu context bar . . .
  21. I have a 2012 iMac and the latest security update (Catalina 10.15.7) is playing havoc with Publisher. It is slow, freezes with and without showing a freeze in "Force quit". Changing tools sometimes temporarily restores working status. Place, and drag and drop into the document sometimes freeze. Sometimes saving cause a slowdown or freeze . . . any thoughts?
  22. affinity publisher, how do i select an invisible object? Object is in resource manager and says it is on a certain page When I go to that page it's not there. Toggling "Clip to Canvas" does nothing.
