Unfortunately, I believe the main reason the request to have the selected elements layer show up upon selection of an element came about because in AD in order to lock or hide an element you need to be able to get to it's layer to tick/untick the visibility checkmark or  the lock. As opposed to illustrator where there are shortcuts for these things. Lock, unlock all, hide, unhide all. 
 
In illustrator I never open those sub layers and have the preference checked that keeps them closed.
 
If we eventually get the ability to do more of these workflow things with shortcuts in AD, a lot of this particular discussion will be moot and we'll not have to scroll around as much in the layers panel which would be very much welcomed by yours truly. ;-)

I used Affinity Designer, from start to finish to make this huge illustration for the upcoming event of a Belgian union (ACV), the text reads "equality makes the difference". Designer worked great on this one (Isometric grids! Infinite zoom! Global Colors!) and I plan on using it way more often for client work. Keep up the good work!

I'm fine with the current setup but that mock up is very easy on these eyes... I could work in that environment. I kinda like that flat style too...

Continuing the Bunny series from some client concept sketches that never got beyond the proof phase.  
 
Thought I'd try something different on this one and play with some pixel painting texturing and also attempt at adding fur to this little guy. The fur is made up of repeating individual groups of "fur shapes" copying, rotating, skewing, repeat... each with transparent gradients and blur to add softness and hide some of the edges and yes it was a lot of work...  ;)
 
Really loving the ease of vector and pixel workflow! 

I could live with the current isolation solution a little better if I didn't drop out of isolation so easily.
 
I'd like to see a toggle solution... option click the layer to isolate - option click it again to de-isolate it. (ideally I'd love to see a keyboard short for all this but until that happens...) 
 
As it is now when in isolation, one stray click off of the path and blam you're out of isolation mode... it's happens so many times it renders the current isolate solution kind of unusable for me.
 
Also I think the isolation mode should work with grouped layers as well. Option click on a group layer and it's isolated. Option click again and it's not. Doesn't really need to be more complicated than that, does it?

Thanks Paolo for your insightful workflow description. I need to lock some of the adjustment/recolour layers as well as I sometimes accidentally start painting on those too...
 
Yes I think a "sample from active layer only" option for the eye dropper or the "alt" picker would be cool. Maybe as a global pref or a tick box on the layers panel?
