I agree, some sort of blend tool is an essential part of a designers tool kit. My wish would be for a smart blend tool that is interactive in how it's implemented (number of steps, spline replace or adjustment, transparency opacity on beginning and/or end...)

Hey all, in continuing my scooter series for Redbubble, here is a retro styled Vespa/travel poster look featuring a scootering lady about Rome.

Lambretta will be next in the series.

    All done in Designer 1.6

Check it out on my Redbubble site as well.

Thanks, glad you like. It was a bit of a rush and could have done a few bits better if I had more time, especially the tree trunks on the right, bit crappy. I will go back and sort the bits out I'm not happy with. Was going to the other weekend but didn't end up having the time.

I still don't get on with the layers palette, don't think I ever will, but I can put up with it but I still utter the the odd swear word.

In the layers panel, when you disable (not remove) some effects on a certain object it might be worth keeping the "fx" icon in the panel but maybe with a red "X" through it so you know there are some effects applied to it but are just disabled. That way with a click on that "fx" with a red "X" you can toggle the effects on and off right from the layers panel. Currently when I disable the effects, the icon disappears and I don't know which objects I have tried some effects on... This way, at a glance you are reminded which elements have effects applied but are turned off.

Good suggestion. A toned down version of the same icon would do it without adding too much visual clutter.

Yes. That's something I find useful in photoshop. I'm sure someone can make it happen.

It's a great way to line up or lay things out too, lines for instance where you can control the amount and the distance between each and if you reposition the objects that you're blending the whole thing updates in sync. I've used it to blend 2 different colours together in a series of steps to find a good "in between" colour, or to create a series of windows in a hi rise building you create one row of windows at bottom and top and blend it to the amount of floors you need... it goes on and on... a really powerful tool that does a lot of the heavy lifting in a designers toolkit.

In the attached images from my portfolio you can see lots of blends. The windows are blends of grouped shapes, the trellis and fence on the rooftop, the glass patio roof and even the flowers. The lines on the wallpaper and floorboards under the cat, the lines in the guys hair, and tons of uses on the train, boat, bridge and buildings...

I was going to do this drawing in Illustrator but read about Serif/Affinity wanting images for their 1.6 promo material so thought I’d give AD a try for the first time. This will be my submission and it so happens the GTI had a 1.6 engine early on.

Hopefully any Golf aficionado will recognise it as an imaginary custom series 1 Mk1 Golf GTI (1.6l 8v) in Miami blue. It’s been de-wipered, lowered, smoked lights, chrome bumpers, no arches and some really nice alloys you can’t see! I couldn’t decide on the colour, either Mars red or Miami blue. Obviously went with blue but the body just uses a single global colour so easy to change my mind later.

All in all it went fairly smoothly, if you know Illustrator you pretty much know AD. Some things I really liked, one thing I really didn’t (I’m looking at you layers palette).  Overall it was fun and good practice. Never used so many gaussian blurs before.

As it's bank holiday weekend I've a little time to go back to it and tweak it if I decide I need to.

Very much agree.   on the part of "one at a time". Two is already a stretch... Is a small team. But I can see development going fast with the two.

Personally I'd like to see Designer and Photo remain the focus, nailing down all of those promised road map features before branching off the team onto a 3rd tier. Especially Designer. :-)

When it starts to get quiet, that is when you know that something is efficiently being worked on. It was the same before Designer 1.6 beta launched.

@retrograde I don't think Patrick was implying you. There have been cases in which despite the release of a product, some customers may have been expecting something else. So I think he is saying that it is impossible to please everyone, but you should still mostly be satisfied with what is coming.

    I sort of agree.

Snapping a node to another node I think should work with both the move or node tool active, somehow with the move tool detecting when a node is above, blow or within a snap distance of another node... and it should snap to any node you drag over. Perhaps adding an option in the snapping prefs for the move tool to access these options would be an improvement? Nice to have the choice. Allowing for a faster (on the surface) efficient workflow not always having to go into node mode. :-)

Here is my version of DaVinci's "Vitruvian Man". I have always thought that there should be a color version of it. It was all done in Designer and while I don't normally use any of Designer's "Effects", I decided to this time.
    I hope that you enjoy.

Thanks for taking the time to view my work,
