  1. One other request is can we make Guides being artboard-specific an option, or dependent on dragging inside/outside of the artboard? In some cases having them artboard specific is helpful, but there are certainly some cases where I'd love for a guide to work across multiple artboards.

I guess we could be accused of venturing into the features request thread area here but... your suggestion of where the drag starts is a good solution or maybe a modifier key. i.e.: drag from ruler affects all, option drag from ruler affects only the active art board...?

  2. Deselect exists in both Pixel and Draw persona so it should work. As mentioned before, check your menu item to see if the shortcut exists.

If it doesn't check the keyboard shortcuts for that persona, there might already be used in that persona for something else. There's absolutely no reason why you can't have Command-D for Deselect in both personas.

Cheers Andrew, but still no change on my end. See screenshot. It's set to Command-D in both personas but doesn't work in Draw. Esc still works...

  3. Thanks guys for your responses.

Yes I guess I'm wondering why some key shorts don't apply across the two personas? Especially a deselect operation. Is there a reason command D can't be used in draw persona? The esc key as a deselect isn't ideal, it seems to upset the quick workflow when drawing and building path based shapes. imho  :)

Again, just hoping for choices, so we can easier set up the app as we're used to (aka 25 years of muscle memory). It would go a long way towards "transitioning" from another app all the more effortless... I suspect a lot of users are using both apps - Ai and Designer concurrently...  :)

That being said, none of this is a game stopper and you guys/gals are doing a great job!  ;)

  4. Agreed here. Moreso an issue for me in Photo too, where I've worked on digital painting and constantly am hitting shortcut keys to switch tools, like the brush and eraser, and find that I'm being switched to the pixel brush, mixer brush, etc., so I have to type a key several times to get back to what I was going to before.

    I hear ya!

All I'm asking for is a choice. i.e. a preference toggle for the toggle would do it. ;-)

  5. I agree with April re the art board tool, but I have changed my keyshort and it's fine.

Regarding shortcuts. I changed my "deselect" keyshort to "command shift A" but it only works in pixel mode. Why is that?

Finally, is there a way to turn off the keyshort toggle? I really don't like the toggle workflow. When I hit V I want the move tool, when I hit C I want the corner tool. I'm finding I have to hit the keys twice a lot of the time to toggle to the right key. I see your reasoning with it but I would rather not have that behaviour.

  6. Thanks team, wow you guys are really pushing the boat out. ;-)

    Some observations...

Seems you need to hide grid then show grid if you want it to line up with a rotated canvas. Not a biggie. Are there plans for a more natural application of rotate canvas down the road. Like a user determined key short, click, drag, rotate instead of predesignated increments?

I realize art boards are still a wip but I'm curious, what's the light grey area around the art boards all about? Currently it seems a little jittery at the moment when moving an art board around or zooming in and out. Why not just have the darker grey background? Just wondering...

Seems you can select and move an art board with the move tool when the art board is empty but not after there's an element on it... is this a possible confusing convention? I would expect to use the art board tool to do anything to an art board...

Is there an art board panel/palette coming for rearranging, resizing and renumbering?

Thanks for those marquee selection and hide selection fixes!!

  7. I've been around fixing a lot of artboard 'issues' earlier today - this one is amongst them :) Hopefully we'll get a new beta out tomorrow and you'll find artboards much more user-friendly! ;)

(I've also made artboards draw with an opaque background if your document was not set as transparent, as per your earlier post) :)

Beautiful Matt! Cheers for being right on top of these things. I know you guys are probably running ragged but I guess that's what betas are all about. We (the users) really appreciate the hard work!!

  8. The artboards are starting to feel good. I might suggest that when you command or option drag to copy an artboard in the interface (not layers palette) that the new artboard layer name changes to "artboard 2 copy" or something similar. Just to make it obvious which is the duplicate.

Also - Would love to see an artboard palette to organize/rearrange artboards after they are created. Always wished illustrator would've had something like that... maybe it does now?

  9. Hi Tony, I agree not so much for shading. It's more for repeating elements and then being able to add or subtract elements after the fact by editing the blend. Creating complex arrangements quickly and with control.  Power duplicate is good for some situations but you can't go back and make adjustments as easily. Something like an array tool would be great. 5 element copies across 8 down sort of thing... :-)

  10. With the new "hide selection" button, it seems to hide the marquee selection box as well, so selecting seems strange. It still selects but doesn't provide visual feedback. I like having the hide selections feature but not hiding the marquee selection box. You need to see what you're selecting, especially if you're trying to avoid certain elements.

Any chance to put the marquee rectangle as you drag to select multiple elements back in, but still have the selection hidden when moving or rotating?

Also I agree with someone else's suggestion to have the hide selection feature be a preference - on or off app wide.

One more thing, how about having the ability to hide selection in node mode? Why just in move mode?

  11. Hi MEB, I just did the second option from your answer above, it works but it's random or based on curve direction as to which two ends join.

I think a better way would be to select the two nodes you want to join, enact "join curves" (or a keyboard equivalent) and get the span between the two you selected. This would be the expected behaviour, no? Having close curve and join curve to me should be consolidated into a simpler process... join curve should work to also close a curve.

Plus on a similar note. Cutting a line currently seems to be a many step process (add a node, select the node, click break curve, delete the two nodes that are created on top of each other) not ideal workflow... are we any closer to a cut tool or a simpler process for this?

  12. Looking good! You got those hands and feet 'head' perspectives nailed.

I might suggest adding some highlighting on some of the edges to suggest a beveled edge here and there for more of a dimensional feel...
