Smooth corners and radius-ed corners are different things.

Please let us define — while creating a rounded rectangle, if we want to use radiused corners or superelipse smooth corners. I have provided an idea on how this could be implemented. This is crucial for design work of good taste, and the building block of all iOS design, and good design

Same here, connfigs were all reset. Toolbar, keyboard shortcuts.
Really annoying for a tool you use professionally on a daily basis. If anything, have the updater make a backup automatically of settings and ask to use those upon restart.

    Status: Customer Beta
    Purpose: Improvements, fixes
Requirements: Purchased Mac Affinity Designer [from Mac App Store]
    Mac App Store: Not Submitted
    Download: Here

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

This beta is an iteration of the current App Store release and should be used in preference to the App Store release, if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.

    Fixes/Improvements:
Hopefully fixed Korean Hangul text entry. Please could everyone check that text entry still works for them in their language!!! Vector export improvements Fix for failures when using compound objects inside groups with Constraints set on them. Font support improvements - specifically relating to fonts which substitute spaces or have truncated Unicode CMAP tables. Transparent TGA import support. Fix for deleting a node of a bitmap fill causing crash. Improved pixel painting smoothing. Any pixel-based painting tools should now have better smoothing by default. Fix for combo boxes causing crashes for certain users on High Sierra. Fix for exporting JPEG automatically choosing to export clips as paths which is a poor default and causes confusion. Fix for text objects being created outside the hierarchy of the artboard they were supposed to be created in. Fix for rotated text bounding boxes being incorrect and for disappearing text following Power-Duplicate. Fixed sporadic hanging when opening many image files at once. Fixed crashing bug when exporting certain large PSDs. Fixed a number of UI memory leaks. Added special case PSD import code for “SketchClub” PSD files (they should fix this!). Fixed PSD export of Fill layers. Fixed UI labels on macOS versions prior to Mavericks. SVG import can now handle gradients with missing x1 or y1 values. Assorted PDF export improvements. Localisation improvements. Paste and file-drop of PDF format files will now honour the DPI, as per File->Place. Fix for marching ants not showing on a rotated canvas. Miscellaneous other fixes and tweaks.

@Patrick Connor i think i've managed to reproduce something similar to what @Oval is talking about.
I will attach my file created in AD Beta 10.
My curves are not so rounded as the Oval screenshot, but they are not straight lines.
You will have to really zoom in, let's say 20000% to see it perfectly.

For me that problem is not bothering at all. i'm just trying to help providing the file and maybe end with this unfriendly conversation from both sides.

In the screenshot is what i'm getting from AD App Store Version and AD Beta 10. The result is the same.

    Oval,
Are you purposely being awkward and uncooperative? I simply asked you for the file shown in your screenshot so we can reproduce the issue and get it resolved. If you are unwilling to do this then we cannot help you. When reporting issues we need you to be as clear as possible to aid in the process of reproducing the fault.

You said the first word was 'line', which is actually part of your image and not your 'description'. You are always given a line (or Curve as the software refers to them) after an expand stroke, so it is not obvious what your starting point is. Looking at your image in no way can I see a line that consists of two nodes. If you had watched the video I attached, you would also have seen that this was converted to a line (Curve) after baking the corners on the tool, giving a curve similar to what your image shows.

So, do you have the file shown in your image so we can reproduce the issue you are having with Expand Stroke?

For basic shapes (like rectangles), you can simply uncheck the "absolute sizes" and the corner radius will scale with your object (because it's now relative to the size of the object).

If you're talking about the corner tool, then yes I don't think it's possible right now

About Corner, can you add an option when we scale objects ? If I have a shape with a corner value = 3 for example, I scale my shape x2, the logic would be a corner value = 3x2 but it's always the same corner value regardless the size…
We must bake corners but it's a poor solution.

This beta version represents a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.

Improvements to Metal view mode - performance and reliability, also reduced flickering when moving artboards Fix for incompatibility with OS X Mavericks or earlier Fix for 'ghost' text objects found when moving text after typing it Fix for nudging the selection with the arrow keys and pressing Escape causing the selected items to revert back to their original location Fix for grid visibility issues in the Metal view mode Fix for path text handles not responding to mouse interaction Fix for rotating via Transform panel in the Node Tool not responding correctly if the user dragged the 'R:' label Fix for occasional incorrect results from Outline layer effect OpenType improvements Better support for fonts which the system is unhappy with (if they have a 'name' table error, we may still work now) SVG and PDF export improvements Fixed issue seen after choosing 'Retina view mode: High Quality (Slowest)' in preferences Assets panel should now remember its expanded state between application sessions 'Find in Layers Panel' should now activate the Layers panel if it was not active Miscellaneous other fixes and tweaks

*sigh* it works completely perfectly for me, no crash... Can I ask what operating system and view mode you're using? I've tried both Metal and OpenGL on Sierra and it's working fine. To be honest, I can't think of a single reason why 'retina pixel view mode' would crash anything, it's not doing anything other than drawing the document which it already did to show you anything in the first place! It's more likely that it's some kind of UI-related issue... Are you using light mode/dark mode? What happens if you restart Designer while holding the Ctrl key to reset everything - do you still get the problem?

    Thanks again!

This Beta has been updated to fix a translation issue as of 2pm (BST), Thursday 24th August. Aside from the translations, the application remains the same so you only need to download it again if you had a problem. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm not. It's actually an export bug. I export a SVG from AD and open it in Illustrator and it's bugged in Illustrator.

You're just resorting to pedantry now. It's broken, it's known to be broken, it's being worked on, it'll be fixed. Some things are complicated and take time, sometimes priorities have to change, a software package is a large and complex thing.

You're obviously frustrated, but I don't think this conversation is helping anyone anymore.

Hi @abarkalo, I think @Tekikou has a problem with SVG export, whereas your issue is to do with clipping paths on SVG import, I think? We have the import bug logged and assigned at the moment, but I'm not sure about the export issue?... I'll look into it...

    Hi Tekikou,

Is there any chance you could tell me some more... When are your guides not displaying? Are you using the OpenGL view or Metal view? Do they disappear at some point or do they just not appear at the right time?

Symbols are working well for me, so I'm assuming it's something specific to the objects you're using - if you happen to have a document (even one which has now stopped syncing correctly) that you could share with us then we can try to see about reproducing it and fixing it?

I've tweaked Expand Stroke a little more for the next beta to stop it being so aggressive on small objects, I tried tracing over a screenshot of your movie with a canvas the same size as yours and I now get a good result, so hopefully you'll see an improvement in the next beta, but do let me know

    Thanks!
    Matt

@Oval A genuine question, have we done something to offend/upset you - many of your posts tend towards a more-than-normal level of negativity towards how you perceive the company thinks/feels/operates. It’s not the industry-standard for devs at a software company to engage directly with customers so I’m beginning to wonder if this is ultimately breeding a false view of our company based on the language and thoughts of those individuals that you would not hold had you simply always spoken to support personnel and received ‘I’ll pass that on to development’ as a stock answer? I get that you’re waiting for features (isn’t everyone?) but negativity towards the company/individuals will do nothing to expedite them...

edited to say: perhaps it’s just a language barrier thing?

    @Oval
The disappointment of a few users may be more related with the high expectations they set for the products than to what the dev team could realistically achieve with the time and resources they had/have.
Considering that Affinity products have barely reached three years on the market, are now present in three different platforms and are being created from scratch i don't think there's much to be disappointed with. We do miss some basic tools/features and we certainly don't cover all competition's functionality but that's expected if you are comparing Affinity to products that have more than two decades of development. It doesn't really matter what Adobe did two decades ago. They had to start/deal with a different set of problems not comparable to the ones software developers face today. Only time will help to close the tools/feature gap and i think most users are aware of this.

Designer and Photo are what they are, with a price that's more than adjusted (i would say cheap) for what they offer - some users know how to take advantage of them and are already using them in production/commercially with what they offer, others will remain frustrated looking just for what they don't have yet. It's up to each one to decide how to look at it. The dev team has been doing their best to fulfil user's requests and fixing what they can and that's all we can promise.

There's nothing stopping users from using Affinity in conjunction with existing third party software if they find some functionality lacking/missing until we get there.

I can definitely make it update text without fuzziness, so I'd recommend that in the next beta you set your settings back to Automatic. Incidentally, it's worth noting that the 'perfect clipping' option is done in CPU, so it will affect how long things take to draw in the document...
