Looks like a bug to me.
You may want to report it in the bug forum.

@andrew: Unless you’re keen on attracting the attention of spammers I strongly recommend changing your username to something other than an email address. To change it, go to your Account Settings page and click on the ‘Display Name’ link.

fde101 reacted to William Overington in Quickshape policy
The quickshapes seem to have been renamed tools. Well, alright.
But there are a lot fewer now.
    Oh.
I find that amongst others the "three dimensional" quickshapes, the Quick Cube and the Quick Cylinder seem to have gone!
I was hoping that as well as those there would be some others, such as a Quick Cone.
Ah, Quickshapes, there are so many more possibilities that could be added.

The issue here is that any "one" way that works on both platforms will be limited to working only within the application.  Support for OS-level scripting languages such as AppleScript allows multiple programs to be tied together and automated using a single script, so that the functionality of several scriptable applications can be combined.  A scripting language built-in to the product can't do that.  There is a place for both.

    Hi,
The context menu for a topic in the Index Panel includes a ‘Find in Document...’ command which should list occurrences of the topic in the document. Specific occurrences can then be included or excluded from the index. Note the ‘Find in Document’ command includes some word stemming support, so for instance a search for ‘find’ would turn up ‘find’, ‘finding’ etc.

An absolutely essential Baseline Grid functionality is to align text with:
    «All Lines» or «First Line Only». Making a Magazine without the «First Line Only» is quite annoying.
Would be great if you could this essential layout feature implement in version 1.

This is normally configured in the print driver.  Most will default to a duplex mode to "flip on the long edge" (or similar) but can be configured somewhere in the print panel to flip on the short edge instead.

fde101 got a reaction from Steps in Scripting
The benefit of AppleScript / scripting bridge support, to my way of thinking, has less to do with extending any one application and more to do with being able to tie applications together more effectively.  Other languages such as JavaScript, Lua, and that snake thing are only useful for tasks that happen inside of a single application.

In fact, while scripting bridge is Mac-only, there is a similar facility in Windoze in the form of WSH: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Script_Host

I think there is room for both: support for the platform-specific methods to tie the products together more effectively with other scriptable applications (to play nice with others), and an internal language (Lua, JavaScript, AffinityScript, whatever) to extend the functionality within the application itself.

And here is yet another one.

Publisher is not an upgrade to or continuation of PagePlus.  It is a completely new application being developed with a different philosophy from PagePlus and built on a different foundation.  The features will probably never match exactly and those which will be added may take some time.

This is called eMail and is already available in various forms as a 3rd-party companion application.  Integrated functionality to do this is not a normal feature of productivity applications and I'm not sure why you would be expecting this when it was never advertised as a feature we should be expecting.

It is nice that you respected this.  QuarkXPress does this also, but Affinity Publisher currently does not.  This strikes me as a very reasonable feature request but it hardly strikes me as essential.

There are already multiple threads discussing this, including one major large one that is pinned.

I'm assuming you mean Photo and Designer?  This will be unlocked later in the beta cycle, as the features are apparently not quite ready yet.

I personally would not expect #1, though only Serif could answer for sure.  InDesign IDML import might come later but will not likely be in the 1.7 release.  #4 is coming later in the beta cycle.

Serif has stated quite definitively that PagePlus is no longer being developed.

Then for now use something else.

This sort of thing is entirely possible in APub.
Design the certificate. Place the certificate design on the Master Page of a document that is not using Facing pages.
Switch the the first page of the document. I would add a layer at this point for the text. Add a single text frame where the names go. Make a paragraph that centers the text. Set the paragraph style to begin on the next page like so:

Then simply import the text. It will overflow and I find it distracting, so I shut it off at the lower right corner of the text frame. Then shift-click the flow icon and all the pages will be built automatically. Takes mere seconds.
I have attached a simple example as a ZIP. It contains the APub file, the certificate graphic and a text file.

fde101 got a reaction from Steps in Constrain Picture Frames
Picture frames don't make sense in Photo or Designer like they do in Publisher.
Due to the fact that the file format and much of the program architecture is shared among the three programs there is a need to support images without frames to be able to support those coming in from the other two programs.
While it would theoretically be possible to only support creating framed pictures in Publisher, and simply support working with non-framed image layers when they come in from the other programs (much like Photo can handle text on a path after it is created in Designer, even though it cannot create text on a path itself), the way the layers work in Publisher combined with the added flexibility of the current approach makes having both options seem like a good idea... and even more so once the other personas become available.

Personally I see little value in the picture frames right now.  They will make more sense once they can be used on master pages to serve as placeholders for content that can vary between pages, but until then they strike me as superfluous in Publisher since I have at least as much flexibility by simply using a shape as a mask when I want to crop an object.  When I don't want to do that, the frame is just another obstacle to go through to get to the photo when I want to manipulate it...
So I like having both choices: the frame for when they get master pages working more usefully, and simple masking for cases where that is not needed.

Posting your email address on a public forum is a bad idea... unless you are trying to attract more spam messages from less reputable types who scan for such things.
I strongly recommend you edit your post to remove the address.  The forum itself is a place for asking questions, and a lot more people can see them and help to answer them.

Tell that to the people who used to do this using movable type...
Pull quotes are generally positioned based on how they fall on the page, not for where they are within the content, so as long as it stays within the same article it is fine if it moves around a bit.  My expectation would be that these would be added late enough in the process that anchoring shouldn't be too important.
If attention is being drawn to text "inline" that needs to stay in position within the article, that is just a matter of text formatting not of inline/anchored objects.
I suppose it depends on the way you work and the specific organization of the process, but I don't think pull quotes are a good example here.

I'm reminded of a probably-not-quite-accurate-but-still-interesting quote rumored to be from Albert Einstein (I've heard rumors he was rather smart - see https://quoteinvestigator.com/2011/05/13/einstein-simple/ for reasoning behind my hyphenation):

Making software like this simple at the expense of flexibility reduces... flexibility.
It is not complexity that geeks (me) are looking for, but the ability to do efficiently the things that the simpler programs are too simple to do efficiently.

Efficiency of learning and efficiency of operation are sometimes at odds... making a program easier to learn often makes it more complex or cumbersome to use over time.
Favoring efficient long-term operation over simplicity of learning does not mean that the program is complex, just that it is meant for users who actually intend to use it.

    Wrong.
This is defined by the font, not the application, as others have mentioned.

You probably want to use text styles for this.
Set the "next level" of the "Chapter..." style to the "Subchapter..." style.
For the numbering text for the subchapter style you will need "\1." in front of the "\#" to add the number of the first level (chapter).

fde101 got a reaction from Steps in Images should be constrained by Picture Frame (OLD thread)
Ok, now I see what you are asking for.
One thing that might complicate this a bit is the fact that Affinity Publisher, like other high-end layout software, does not restrict frames to specific shapes - not only can the frames be rectangles and circles, but stars, hearts, custom paths created using the pen tool, and so on... and the shapes can be edited after the pictures are placed.
In order to make sure the behavior is logical when such frames have their shapes edited after a photo is placed there would be a number of situations that would need to be accounted for - what happens if the frame is temporarily larger than the photo while the frame is being reshaped and the photo can't reach both edges, for example? - so I don't know how well this could really work in a general case in practice.

fde101 reacted to Steps in Linked Ressources as default : Feature Request
I understood it as a feature request.
I suffer myself that some people read my feature requests as complaining just because I call for example usability flaws what they are and don't try to find nicer words.
As a software developer I may be used to that tone because most tickets come right to the point if something seems to be wrong in view of a user. Reading every ticket in my bug tracker as a complaint would depress me.
