    Evidently that is a Windoze thing I wasn't even aware of.  Not all too common on the Mac, though it is used for renaming nodes in Fusion.
    That said, it is probably as good of a shortcut for this as anything.

    No, only the majority of the features of the Photo persona.  The Liquify, Develop, Tone Mapping and Export personas from Photo are not available directly within Publisher.

    That said, the Photo persona covers a lot of ground.

    fde101 got a reaction from pruus in Rulers only per artboard, not over every artboard
    Rulers are global...  guides are local to the artboard, or to the page in Publisher.  In Publisher you can put guides on a master page to make them available across multiple "normal" document pages which have the master page assigned to them, but Designer doesn't have an equivalent to that.  Note that as artboards can be different sizes, guides might not always match up between them in a meaningful way.

    fde101 got a reaction from MamboStudioz in Suggesting a mix of old and New Document screen.
    Hiding options within what essentially amounts to a list box when there is no technical advantage to doing so does not strike me as being a sensible idea.
    I am firmly opposed to this one as it is suggested above - we would need an extra click to find those other options and would gain absolutely nothing from this.

    If the concern is that the user is having trouble pinpointing one preset among the many, I would suggest instead adding a "favorites" feature so that specific templates could be flagged as favorites and show up in a separate "Favorites" tab - that tab might be broken down by the categories from the other pages and show only the favorite items underneath each one.

    True... and that is very likely to happen any time photos are imported into a CMYK document as well.

    That is probably a good idea...  though it might actually be a better fit for Publisher by being added to the Preflight panel.

    Possibly, though HSL colors are not always 100% unique - it could also be that two different sets of numbers mapped to the same underlying RGB color value (as explained at the link above, HSL is built on RGB).

    I believe that is basically how QuarkXPress works?

    That is always a worthy goal, but note also that there was recently another thread where people were basically requesting the opposite.  They wanted the CMYK values of swatches to remain unchanged when pasting something into a document with a different color space - they were more concerned about the numbers than the actual color for some reason related to corporate standards of clients or some such.  I can see that with the K value (for blacks) if there is a desire to conserve more expensive color ink when writing out body text, and while I personally still think it would typically be better to educate those clients, there are obviously multiple factors to be considered.

    I understand now. I think in a usual set up it will make the most sense to click on tab and see the long list of the tab you clicked on. Having the first row be recents would probably be fine. I don't think the short list of all the sections would work as well.

    There should really be an option for the text frame itself to apply the baseline grid to only the first line in the frame.

    I was originally going by the mockup you provided in your OP - you show four entries and a "more" button on each tab, and that I would be strongly opposed to.  Clicking the tab should be enough to show all of the options.
    Adding a "most recently used" section to the top then showing all of the options underneath it would be fine, maybe something like this:

    Having the tabs and the "more" button though is just an extra click to reveal them which would be pointless and you would be wasting all of the remaining space there until the button was clicked.
    If the idea was to get rid of the tabs and show the sections as separate headers instead, then I could see that scheme working, but personally I would still prefer the current approach.

    It is the page size, which may not be the same size as the paper you are printing on.
    You can print with crop marks so that smaller pages can be easily cut from larger sheets of paper.  Depending on how you configure printing, you might print multiple pages to one sheet, for example.

    Chances are there will not be until it shows up in a beta.  The 1.8 betas are known to be late in their development cycle and this has not shown up, so chances are it won't be happening in the 1.8 releases.  That is as much as anyone outside of Serif is going to be able to tell you, and Serif probably won't tell you any more either until they are ready to release it.

    fde101 got a reaction from walt.farrell in Adjusting image non-proportionally
    This depends on how the frame is configured - scale to max fit and scale to min fit will maintain aspect ratio.  Stretch to fit will cause the behavior that you are describing.
    If it is set to "none" then the image can be scaled manually, separately from the frame.  In this case, double-click the frame to select the actual image layer inside the frame, then shift-drag the corner handles, or drag one of the side/top/bottom handles.
    Dragging the side/top/bottom handles also works if the image is not in a frame.

    It already runs on iPad which is ARM-based.
    There are rumors that future Macs will switch to ARM processors so they might be forced into it on the Mac platform.
    Right now there are limitations regarding supporting ARM processors on Windoze due to the UI toolkit they are using not working on 64-bit ARM processors.  There was discussion about this on another thread.  Because of that issue, if you ever see ARM support for Windoze, it will probably be a while as they may need to recreate the UI using another toolkit, which could be a fair bit of work.

    This would most likely be a feature of Designer rather than of Photo, and indeed has been requested there already.  It may be some time before this happens, however.  Serif has indicated in other threads that while they have had tracing features in past software they are not happy with their accuracy and are planning on doing something much better for Designer, though that means it will take more time to achieve.

    In short it is completely unusable in low-saturation areas, it is quite unpredictable because of this.

    Based on a YouTube video I found demonstrating Create Booklet 2, it looks like each of the programs has capabilities the other does not.  I haven't tried Create Booklet 2 (yet?) so can't really comment on it beyond that at this point.  FitPlot has a free demo on the company's web site, but I don't see one for Create Booklet 2.

    This is true, after the selection is made you can drag it freely.  This functionality is referencing a shortcut which is available when creating shapes that does not seem to have been applied consistently to the creation of pixel selections.  For shapes, this is used while initially creating the shape - before letting go of the mouse while dragging out the shape to begin with - to allow you to adjust the position while still creating it.  Yes, you can move and resize it after the fact, but this may be a bit quicker sometimes.

    fde101 got a reaction from pualv in Weird Brush Size Increments
    This sounds so much like a preference in the making...

    From one perspective, using percentages for this makes a lot of sense and is fairly straightforward compared to using some kind of stepping function.  For vector work you *might* get away with this much of the time.

    From another, however, the use of fractional pixel sizes for a raster brush is indeed rather strange, and simply trying to round this is kind of sloppy...

    Assume for a moment that you round up when increasing the brush size and down when decreasing.  Starting from a 1px brush you wind up with:

    1 * 1.15 = 1.15 -> 2
    2 * 1.15 = 2.3 -> 3
    3 * 1.15 = 3.45 -> 4
    4 * 1.15 = 4.6 -> 5
    5 * 1.15 = 5.75 -> 6
    6 * 1.15 = 6.9 -> 7
    7 * 1.15 = 8.05 -> 9
    9 * 1.15 = 10.35 -> 11
    11 * 1.15 = 12.65 -> 13
    etc...

    continuing with that pattern: 15, 18, 21, 25, 29, 34, 40, 47, 55, 64, ...

    If we then match this going downward by always rounding down, then starting with a brush size of 309 (which is reached by the above pattern after a while), you get:

    309 * 0.85 = 262.65 -> 262
    262 * 0.85 = 222.7 -> 222
    222 * 0.85 = 188.7 -> 188

    and continuing: 159, 135, 114, 96, 81, 68, 57, 48, 40, ...

    Note that the pattern coming downward does not match the numbers from the pattern going up.  That means that implementing such a scheme will lead to brush sizes that cannot be returned to by "going the other way".

    NOTE: 40 -> 47 -> 55, but 55 -> 46 -> 39

    Simple rounding won't work with the smaller sizes because 1 * 1.15 = 1.15 which would round back down to 1 and the size would never change.
    Simple rounding on the way down won't work either (2 * 0.85 = 1.7 -> 2).

    I would be ok with the pattern of jumps if it were consistent in both directions, but the fact that going up a size and going down a size don't match is something I find rather...  not to be liked?

    Rectangular marque.
    Begin drawing eks elliptical marque. Hold down space to move the marque to another position. Space bar changes the size of the shape and does not move the shape.
    Holding down the spacebar should move the marque.
    Click eks Rectangle tool.
    Start to draw the size of the shape and hold down space bar to move the shape. One is able to move the shape by holding down the spacebar.

    Conclusion any tool that draws a shape Rectangle tool, Marque Tool or anything else.
    As one begins to create the shape holding down the space bar should move the shape around, so one has better control over where one begins.
    This means the short cuts (keyboard command) for the Rectangle tool should should also be reflected in other tools. As it would keep a nice consistency in regards to similar methods/techniques.

    NB!
    1. One begins to draw out a shape and notices one wants to readjust the starting point.
    2. One then holds down the space bar to align the starting point. (moves the shape one is drawing out)
    3. One then continues to draw out the shape.
    Having a way to adjust the starting point by holding down the space bar is a technique I have used a lot in Photoshop as it helps me to realign where the shape begins.
