  1. I wonder if it might be useful for there to be a consistent way to "reset-safe" a property to make it immune from the reset options? That might be pushing things a bit too far though... just a random thought for now.
  2. If you look at the text in the image where it is actually present, the cutoff is not happening at a paragraph break.
  3. The icons in the lower-right corners of the posts (Thanks, etc.) are kind of nifty... might be nice to have a "PLEASE!!!" icon (picture of someone begging perhaps), and/or a "+1" or "me2" icon added as options?
  4. @phooph, Kind of interesting that the text in the right column starts wrapping below the top of where the frame is in the left column.
  5. Very important feature, yes, but if it squeaks into 1.8 in order to allow for more thorough debugging and hardening of 1.7 I think at least some of us could live with that... The reality of the way this is being developed is that what some people will consider "1.0" will be different from what others will. The release version of 1.7 will be the first "real" version for a few, 1.8 will for others, etc.
  6. This is not a problem in this context. Supposedly the PDF was created on the same computer that exported the document from Pages and thus the same fonts should be available. Pages couldn't have embedded the font to begin with if it were not available on the computer.
  7. Is there a way to get such text to be added to a text frame automatically when the text is continued in a linked text box on a different page? There should also be a matching "Previous Frame Page Number" and ability to add text to top of linked text boxes when the text is continued from a box on a different page ("...continued from page ...").
  8. There have been a few cases of people accidentally posting in the wrong place - mac_heibu probably just wanted to confirm.
  9. I am thinking more of a "keep on top" checkbox in the properties of the master page. If that master is already the top layer then when objects are added to the page they are added below that master instead of on top of it, otherwise it could be ignored. I would think something like that would be relatively easy for the Affinity team to implement quickly, probably much more so than global layers, and could fill the gap for a lot of use cases until global layers became available to cover the other cases. Such a master should also be added by default instead of replacing an existing master, and should be added as the top layer instead of the bottom.
  10. or for an entire master page, as there can be more than one master assigned to a page - you could have one for stuff on the bottom and another for stuff on the top
  11. That was meant for Sean to give him something to compare against.
  12. I think it should depend on the selected preset - if using a preset for printing it should be CMYK, for example... if it was set up for some electronic format (read on a display) then RGB would be more appropriate.
  13. try opening the PDF in Preview or other app that uses the embedded fonts?
  14. PostScript itself would not cause that, but if APub is treating the incoming PostScript file as an image it may happen at that level?
  15. I believe a PDF can be converted to a PostScript file on a Mac using an option in the context menu in the Finder? Actually: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2360935
  16. That is probably because it has been beaten to death across numerous threads and nothing has changed. We have already been told quite clearly that this will not happen in the initial release but might be coming in a future version.
  17. And you think you will find a 3rd party product that will import them? Think of the Affinity range of products as being from a different company and it starts to make more sense. Not quite accurate, but it is a different team in effect, and intentionally a fresh start. That seems like a rather odd set of omissions, but I certainly do hope they make it very soon after... or a tool to translate it to RTF which would make it compatible not only with Affinity Publisher but with a bunch of other tools also?
  18. Yeah, when I was reading this my first thought too was to use layers until I started thinking about this being text. The text could be in the middle of a test box sandwiched between other text, so this could require that text be re-flowed and could impact the page count of the document, page references, TOC contents, etc... Layers would not accommodate this and it is a non-trivial request. Unless the Affinity team has already been secretly working on this behind the scenes I don't think it is realistic to expect this in the first release, though not a bad feature to put on the request list for a future addition. In the meantime I would suggest developing a single manual for both models, including some kind of icon or other marker (colored bar in the margin, etc.) to indicate things that are specific to one model or the other.
  19. For the most part the defaults will be fine for the majority of documents. The most important profiles are the ones for the devices you are using - if you are getting pictures from a camera or scanner then the photo or scanned document will most likely have already accounted for that or will have an embedded profile of some kind that the software can use. Your display should have a profile set in the operating system, but it won't be accurate unless you have a colorometer and have calibrated your exact display reasonably recently. Your printer will also have a profile assigned to it (in the print dialog) and there are devices that can generate calibrated profiles for your exact printer in order to match it more precisely. 20. Preferences -> Colour (all three apps) File -> New (then File -> Document Setup) (Publisher, Designer) Document -> Convert/Assign ICC Profile (Photo) File -> Export -> More (all three apps) "Soft Proof" adjustment layer (all three apps)
  21. 1) they are called tutorials 2) this would be great, but I don't need it most of the time, so it won't hold me up 3) seriously? take some measurements and drag out some guides... 4) command+Z, shift+command+Z 5) File/Print, PDF -> Open PDF in Preview 6) ? 7) Affinity Photo 8) Affinity Designer 9) this would be nice, yes
