  1. No it wasn't. PDF does not support linked files and was never intended as an editing format. It is meant as "paper in a file" but with smaller sizes and the ability to scale and search. The fact that it has been commonly misused as an editable interchange format does not make that part of its intended function, it just means that the format is being commonly used for functions it was never actually designed for.
  2. But in doing so you are discussing functionality that transcends that use case. Import/export is needed for more than just the web, so while it may have been brought up with that focus in mind, the developers will need to consider other use cases when evaluating changes to functionality that impacts everyone.
  3. This may be true for presets, but not for templates. Templates show the picture of a page. But they are in the same view. It would be strange to show the templates as icons and the presets in a list within the same view. If they were separated that might be a different story.
  4. I agree with A and B completely. D is a fair point. For C, I would argue that having the suggested list view would be a great option, but I believe the reason for the icons being as large as they are is to support templates, which may display a preview of the content (look at the sample), and it may be the intention that there could be a larger number of templates to scroll through at some point. For the benefit of those primarily working with presets, I would suggest adding a list view as an option, as well as giving the option to scale the icons for those using the icon view: people using a mix of presets and templates, particularly on smaller screens, might prefer smaller icons to squeeze more in, while people working with templates on a larger screen might appreciate a larger preview of the content.
  5. The betas are not sandboxed. I am not sure about the released version from the Serif store. The app store version definitely is.
  6. You seem to be making the assumption that the entire world revolves around the web... That said I just checked and this format does appear to be supported only by M$ browsers, one video game (using it for its textures), and a handful of photo editors/viewers. It has been around for at least a decade and does not seem to have caught on, so I think too this one could be sidelined for the time being. I also came across an article indicating that someone tested this and determined that using JPEG XR slowed down page rendering in the M$ browsers more than the reduced size reduced the download time, so their recommendation was to never use it there either.
  7. Yes, exactly. I believe the non-app-store version is also sandboxed, but I'm not 100% certain. An app does not need to be on the app store to be sandboxed.
  8. Hi @EricAP, welcome to the forums! This feature is already available in the standard Print dialog within Publisher, though you do need to make sure the document has an even multiple of 4 pages. Set the "Model" to "Booklet" within the print dialog; this can be found in the "Document Layout" category in the print dialog on the Mac, or under "Layout" on Windows.
  9. Actually, that probably was a permission window in disguise. It is somehow related to the way sandboxing works. I agree that if you got two of them at once and there was no explanation that is a confusing situation and should probably be changed somehow...
  10. Currently there is a selector for "All", "Presets" and "Templates". There should probably be one for "All", "Factory", "System" or "User" next to it. Or alternatively, "All", "Online", "Downloaded", "System" and "User" if an online template library is used. That should take care of the "scrolling issue" whether they provide a significant library or not.
  11. Yes, people care about WebP. Not familiar enough with JPEG XR to comment, but while there are existing JPEG 2000 images out there and import support would be nice, I do agree that export support for JPEG 2000 is something most people could easily live without. For everyone else, there is always GraphicConverter... and ImageMagick.
  12. This would most likely be a feature of Designer rather than of Photo, and indeed has been requested there already. It may be some time before this happens, however. Serif has indicated in other threads that while they have had tracing features in past software they are not happy with their accuracy and are planning on doing something much better for Designer, though that means it will take more time to achieve.
  13. Designer cannot actually import AI files as such. It reads the PDF stream inside the AI file and imports it as a PDF, which is unlikely to contain the information necessary to retain these relationships.
  14. You can do that already by adjusting the control handles on the curve.
  15. Meanwhile, additional Windows beta versions of Photo and Designer have been posted, but they again appear to be mostly bug fixes and relatively small tweaks, none of the more significant added features yet.
  16. If you are in a rush, try one of: www.adobe.com www.vectorstyler.com www.coreldraw.com Otherwise, you may need to be patient.
  17. Different programs have different variations, but I believe most of them keep them cached locally long-term after first retrieved. An option to download all of them right away for offline use might be helpful unless there are a very large number of them (which is the case with some of those apps, thus the reason not to download them locally as part of the app install); in any case there could be an option to download local copies individually if the user wants them, and that would happen automatically upon the first use. I'm not saying Serif should or will go this route, just tossing it out there as something that is starting to happen in a lot of cases and is not an unreasonable approach. It would allow for a large library of templates to exist without bloating the size of the initial download of the program for people who are unlikely to use more than a small number of them (if any); users could selectively download the ones they are interested in.
  18. Some software is now keeping the templates online and downloading them within the app the first time they are used.
  19. This is a different feature request, and there are already a number of threads in which it is being discussed; in particular this one, which is pinned to the top of the forum containing this thread:
  20. How would it be any different from what could be achieved by adjusting the control handles and the positions of the individual nodes that make up the shape?
  21. @Jeremy Bohn, @Murfee - those seem like great suggestions, but they should be on a separate thread. The announcement thread for a release is a dangerous place to put these as they may get lost in the shuffle when the next release is made and this thread gets locked.
  22. That would get old fast, as this would require large tooltips that would get in the way of seeing what you are doing. That is not a normal behavior for a checkbox and does not impress me as a good idea. I think it would be better to select the layers in the panel (which would allow for discontiguous selections as well) and have the click of a checkbox for any of the selected layers applied to all those selected.
