  1. Hi Wosven, and thank you! I knew it would be something simple and it was - I wasn't clicking on the global colour icon to highlight it before right clicking to edit the fill. It works perfectly now, thanks again.
  2. Firstly, my apologies if this has been asked before. I did search for an answer but couldn't find one. So, I'm following a course on Designer and I set up three shapes with the same colour, then right click on the last one created to add to swatch and create a global colour. When I edit fill to change all the colours, only the last shape created changed. At least it did the first time - all subsequent attempts failed to change anything. Next I did a bit of digging and found an alternative method - from the swatch panel menu there's an option to create global colour, so I created a single shape, used it's colour to set up the global one and when I clicked edit fill it worked! Once - all subsequent attempts failed. On one of the failures I tried an experiment - after selecting edit fill I used the colour picker from the ensuing box to select the colour from the shape I'd used in the first place, accepted that colour (no change apparent as in theory they were the same colour anyway), then hit edit fill again, changed the colour and Yay! it worked. But, yes, you've guessed it - only once! I can't repeat it. I've closed and re-opened Designer, shut down and re-started my PC but none of the methods will work again. There must be a simple setting I'm missing - anybody any ideas?
  3. This is a deal breaker for me. If I continually have to scroll up and down to find the panel I want to work with it'll take me four or five times longer to process a raw file - and I'm not prepared to waste that time.
  4. Already tried all that to no avail, but thanks anyway.
  5. I'm trying to use the Topaz Remask plugin, and I get the error message: "Transparency is Locked. Please unclock the transparency". Note the incorrect spelling of unlock is yours not mine! Have searched Help and this forum but can't find anything.
  6. I don't suppose it matters at all, except perhaps to the pedants among us. I only entered this discussion because of the incorrect and potentially misleading (in my opinion) comments and answers given to the OP. The bottom line is that the PPI you set in a document simply determines the size of the print, and is used as input by the printer for that purpose only. The DPI (printer output) determines the quality of that print and is set by the printer depending on the quality setting you choose - high quality will get a high DPI and draft will get a low one, with various settings in between, and it has no relationship whatsoever to the PPI.
  7. It doesn't matter whether you're printing or exporting - it's PPI in both cases. I don't know what Photoshop called it before Adobe, but they call it PPI now. http://www.andrewdaceyphotography.com/articles/dpi/ https://99designs.co.uk/blog/tips-en-gb/ppi-vs-dpi-whats-the-difference/?lang=en-gb?lang=en-gb https://imagescience.com.au/knowledge/the-difference-between-ppi-and-dpi
  8. While DPI and PPI are often used interchangeably, they are NOT the same. Pixels per inch is self evident but DPI refers to the number of dots of ink output by a printer, and they typically output four to eight dots per pixel (in each dimension). So, if you're printing at 300 PPI you're also printing at 1200 - 2400 DPI. Serif really should change the labels in their software to PPI - a la Photoshop et al.
  9. I have Panasonic G3 and G6, and Designer doesn't recognise images from either of them. I didn't really expect it to, with it not being a photo processor, until I read your post, but now I'm wondering whether it ought to?
  10. Thank you - but this explains the difference between DrawPlus and Designer which isn't what I asked. To put it another way, what's the difference between DrawPlus and PagePlus, or between Designer and Publisher?
  11. Firstly apologies if I'm appearing stupid, but I did try to find the answer elsewhere before posting this, and apologies if this is in the wrong place - if so please remove it or place it where it should be. I've stumbled into here because of my interest in Affinity Photo really, but I used to use Page Plus (Publishing Suite 3.0) a long while back, and I'm really enjoying learning to use Affinity Designer (will probably buy it when the time comes. My question is: What are the differences between DrawPlus/Designer on one hand and PagePlus/Publisher on the other, i.e. what would you use each for, or, what tasks should be done in each? They seem very similar but they each must have their own purposes. Many thanks to anyone patient enough to explain to me.
  12. Hi I'm Paul, a keen photographer from the north east of England. I used to be a big user of PagePlus (version 3!!) many years ago and have always been a fan of Serif products. I'm excited about Affinity Photo, but will just have to wait until the Windows version is released - hopefully before long. If it's only half as good as it seems it will be it'll be goodbye to Adobe!
