From time to time on this forum people have expressed a concern that Serif have stopped supporting their legacy products, and that this might be indicative of a lack of customer focus - not for the first time I've just dealt with Serif's staff to help with a recent PC upgrade and found the support to be excellent! If 'unsupported' products receive this level of attention it bodes well for the Affinity range!

Adjustments in Macros
IanSG replied to IanSG's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi jhoy Thanks for that! Btw, it's Ian, not Inan :) -
Raw
IanSG replied to Vinther's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi Vinther The short answer to your question is you can't. Macros aren't available in the Develop persona (yet?) but you can use presets to record the values of whatever you've changed and then apply them to the other images. Personaly I think Lightroom has it right - you edit one image and then duplicate the settings in the others. -
Publisher Beta?
IanSG replied to SaucyWeeTart's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I don't think doing that as a public beta would work - people would completely ignore all the caveats and just generate bad publicity. I've seen a *company run a beta test system where the testers pay for a test license! This seems to work well - the product is later purchased at a discounted rate so there's no financial penalty, the testers are serious about their desire to see a marketable product, the testers, in effect, have a hot line to the developers, and the rest of the world can see that there's a product on its way. *I wasn't thinking of Microsoft, even though some people say they've been doing that for years ;) -
Adjustments in Macros
IanSG replied to IanSG's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi jhoy Thanks for looking into this - the macro's been uploaded as Levels Test. If it makes any difference, I've seen a video where the levels adjustment is added to the macro simply by clicking on the slider button - I have to move the button before the macro is updated. -
I'd shoot in RAW and worry about the processing later - you can't go from JPEG to RAW. You can use presets to help process large numbers of RAW files but, in this case, I don't think AP's the right tool for the job. If the software supplied with your camera can't do it you could try RawTherapee - it's free, though I find it's at the fierce end of the user friendliness spectrum.

I open an image and apply a levels (for example) adjustment - changes are shown in real time as I move the sliders. If I add the levels adjustment to a macro and make the changes when the macro runs I only see the effect after I release the slider! Is this the expected behaviour or (I hope) a bug? I'm running Windows 10.

wrong information
IanSG replied to Oval's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Agreed, but it's not described as "the 1.x Roadmap" - just "the Roadmap". -
wrong information
IanSG replied to Oval's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I've just had a look at faq thread in this forum. Under the Roadmap question we have the comment "Note all the features listed here will be made available in free 1.X updates" - it's reasonable to assume that "note" is a typo for "not", but maybe someone should correct it. -
I don't know the answer to this, but I've installed Affinity Photo on drives other than the system disk without any problems. At risk of asking the bleedin' obvious, do you have enough disk space on D? Which Affinity product are you trying to install and are there any affinity products already installed (and if so, where)? Have you tried downloading a fresh copy of the software? Which version of the operating system are you using? Have you tried looking for error messages in the system log?

Fuji X raw files
IanSG replied to elbingo's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
If Jeff's suggestion doesn't work have look at the Fast Picture Viewer codec - it handles my.raf files ok. -
I've just had a play with some images where I get a "startling" effect - once I've applied the filter, using it again has no effect. I don't know how the haze removal filter works, but maybe it's being rendered ineffective by something you did earlier in your workflow? Is the haze removal ineffective if it's the first thing you use?
-
I've just tried 1.5.2 (Beta) on Windows and can't see any difference between that and the previous release - do you have an old download you can revert to! revert to? fwiw I've found that the haze removal filter's effects can range from non-existent to startling - have you tried editing any of the previous images where it's been effective?

Green Screen
IanSG replied to AHM Photography's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I'm not sure if I've understood the question, but when you're using green screen it's important to make sure the screen itself is evenly lit and your subjects aren't casting shadows on it. -
Userinterface: Color of the File-TABS
IanSG replied to fhautog's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Speaking as one of the "older people", I strongly agree!! As a related issue, it's nice being able to move the tabs around, but it's much too easy to get hopelessly lost. -
Inpainting
IanSG replied to Don Baartz's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
The inpainting option under "Edit" only affects areas that have already been selected. -
Look on the bright side - you don't need to learn a new program for a while :) It's possible that the new Affinity offering won't be a better choice for you anyway! PagePlus is a very competent hobbyist's tool while still being easy to use - if AP is intending to compete with Quark Express etc it's likely to have an intimidatingly steep learning curve.
