ICANNOT get any previews when opening raw {CR2} PLEASE help
If you can't see a thumbnail of your RAW files in your OS' file manager you'll need to install a suitable codec. I assume Canon produce one, but I use the Fast Picture Viewer Codec Pack on Windows - I don't know what Mac users do. If the file manager can see the previews but File / Open can't, are you sure you've selected a suitable viewing option? If you're looking for recent files, AP doesn't display a thumbnail (but I really hope that's going to change!!!).

So, do you think it froze up because my computer, or cause of the raw photo..? Thanks!!
I've got a GX80, which uses the same sensor as the G7, and that's fine.

So what if anything does that mean for Windows users who bought Affinity Photo from the Windows Store instead of from the Affinity Store?
Nothing that I can see - the extra codec(s) just enable Windows Explorer to display RAW files as thumbnails (or icons as Windows calls them). AP then uses Explorer, regardless of whether it's the Affinity or MS store version.

See the FastPictureViewer Codec pack Link @vintage1953 showed above.
So, not the FastStone Image Viewer codec

Well FSIV does spend time, money and effort into an own codec which they sell for Windows
Can you post a link for that, please - I couldn't find anything on their web site.

Mystery, to me, is if FSIV has the codec why doesn't Windows?
FSIV is probably displaying an embedded jpeg thumbnail. I can see thumbnails of E-M10 MkII files in Explorer - I use the FastPictureViewer codec pack, which seems to handle any RAW file I throw at it!

Going back to a RAW file, and starting again, every time, is proving a pain.
You don't need to do that - open the .afphoto file and carry on where you left off.

That's a function of the operating system, not AP.

Is there a way round this or is this "all there is"?
AP doesn't use sidecar files or a central store - edits are stored as part of an .afphoto file (File / Save As, or Save). Opening the RAW file just starts from scratch. There's a caveat though - there's currently no way of saving edits made to a RAW file before you Develop it.

If you don't want a selection, Select > Deselect.
Or <ctrl>d.

Have they ever worked? If so, what's changed? If you start and close one of the apps does the other one immediately have the problem or are they showing the same problem but independantly?

Thanks for that info, unfortunately the Fujifilm X-A10 isn't compatible with Serif Labs RAW engine, however it is compatible with the Apple Core RAW engine which can be implemented by Affinity.
I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but is there an alternative RAW engine for Windows users?

(perhaps my FujiFilm X-A10 is not a supported camera
It looks like that's the case - I see the same problem on my Win 10 system! You could try converting the RAF files to DNG with Adobe's converter.

Can't find 99 x undo icon on the toolbar
Can't import serif page plus 9 files as promised when I upgraded from 8.
Is there going to be a word search as well as topics
A manual would be good
Which program are you asking about? Serif have been at pains to point out that Affinity Publisher isn't an upgrade from PagePlus, and a word search is already there.

I did bridle at that, but now I'm horse from laughing so much! You can't beat a bit of humour!

Chromakey (green / blue screen) isn't a feature of AP. That said, selecting objects against a contrasting background is easy - make sure the background is uniformly lit and the subjects aren't casting shadows on it. Chromakey would be easier, but you can't guarantee that someone won't be wearing clothing that suddenly becomes transparent (in the non-pervy sense!).

I think Photoline can make very large pixel dimensioned files but a lot of these very large dimensioned files have to take into consideration the 4K file size limits of a lot of formats.
I think the limit is 4GB, not 4K. But that limit is imposed by the FAT32 (and earlier) file system - it's not a feature of the application's file format. The maximum file sizes imposed by NTFS (Windows) and APFS (Mac) are so big they're not a practical limit.

Take the picture with a long lens and a wide aperture. Having a large sensor helps, too. In AP you can selectively sharpen parts of the image and selectively blur others.

when I choose File Open I see only Icons and file names.
I'm a Win 10 user - this might not be the case for Macs! AP uses the native file manager to select files and display the contents - you need to have selected a viewing mode that includes icons (just in case!) and the file manager needs to be able to display them. I use the Fast Picture Viewer Codec Pack to display RAW images - it's very reasonably priced, and I can display Sony a99II RAW images with no problems.

I'm not sure if I've fully understood the question, but <ctrl>A selects everything.

Windows 10 os, bought from the Affinity online site
In which case the link above should be all you need.

That depends on what platform you're on and where you bought the programs - Mac or Windows, and if it's the latter did you buy them from the Affinity Store or the Microsoft store? The Affinity store is here, you'll probably need your username and password.

In your first step, the File > New from clipboard would convert an "(Image)" layer to a "(Pixel)" one, but it is much simpler just to select the "(Image)" layer & rasterize it.
The first step creates an image layer - it's converted to a pixel layer at step 5. As you say, it's easier to simply rasterise it.
