I agree with everything that has been said and would like to add that a logo should still be recognizable when printed with one color only (e. g. with black on a letterhead). If that’s the case then you have a good logo. A logo is really more about (simple) recognizable shapes than intricate effects. There are lots of logo design tutorials on the web that explain this in more detail.

I agree with A_B_C. These are some really great designs but it seems a bit over-engineered for a logo. A logo should be recognisable at thumbnail size.

A quick Google search for 'brain logo' will show you some really neat ideas which you can use for some inspiration and the majority seem to be simple line drawings with a bit of fancy text.

However if I had to pick one of the current designs, I'd go with the second idea with the background as it looks more fun and I like the definition.

    Hi baal_uriel,

your drawing is very beautiful, but please have in mind that usually a logo will be displayed at very small sizes. Just think of the logo usage on Facebook (see below). So your design must be still understandable, even when scaled down to a considerable degree. I am sorry to say this, but I fear this is not the case with your current, very detailed draft …  :(

I hope you don’t mind my remarks, I certainly don’t want to offend you … :)
Once again, it is a great drawing, but I doubt it will work as a logo.

Hi, just a little post showing off a character design I created using Affinity Designer for the first time...

The character was created for some music festival posters I put together.

    Hello Baal_uriel

You can purchase either course. The course on Udemy was my first course. I created that one when affinity was version 1.2 I am in the process of adding new content for that course to reflect some of the new features in version 1.4, but all the existing content in that course covers all the basic tools and covers techniques that an illustrator / designer would use. I just released my lynda course. the focus of that course was for beginners and much of the content tent and topics cover are more so focused on graphic designers /artist. Both courses are for the Beginners and covers many of the same topics but from those two point of views. You would not be at a disadvantage from taking either course. The udemy course is a 1-time fee and you own access to that course for life. Also, there is a message board and an area to ask questions of me or other students in the course. The course on Lynda is a subscription service you can sign up and not only will you have access to my course but you will have access to the entire lynda catalog. By signing up to lynda you have access to the affinity photo course as well. that course was created by another author. Hopefully, I gave you enough to make a decision.

    Cheer and Thank you!

You're welcome ^_^  You can find some good fonts on Font Squirrel, Fontfabric, Google Fonts. Some type foundries also provides a few (commercial) weights for free (some of them listed on Font Squirrel.

    Hi baal_uriel,
The opentype features you saw on the video - variants, alternates etc - depends on the font you choose, not on Affinity apps. Some fonts don't include all those features and so the Typography panel doesn't show those options. To check what's available on a specific font, create a text object with that font (make sure the text object is selected) and open the Typography panel (menu Text ▸ Show Typography). Usually commercial Script / Display fonts tend to offer several variants, alternates, ligatures and a host of other opentype features to provide more flexibility when composing text.

    Hi baal_uriel,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

If you meant having the text flowing along a path, just select the shape or curve you want to use, change to the Artistic Text Tool and place the cursor over the selected shape/path (it will change to a "T" with a small wave below) then click and start typing.

You can perform a similar operation with the Frame Text Tool. Place the cursor over a previously selected (closed) shape  - it will change to a "T" inside a Polygon - click and start typing to fill the shape with text.

    Hi couchpotato,
The documentation team is already working on a set of tutorials geared towards new users/newbies.
It should cover the basics in more detail and be easier to follow. Just give them some time.
    Thanks for your feedback.

Thank You! :) Stay focused, keep experimenting and try to be observant of the world around you. You can do that by taking lot of pictures and studding lights, Shadows, and colors and how they interact with the objects of focus.

    Cheers and Good Luck!
