That's not needed per se. The real-world modern way of doing this is through kickstater or similar.
Get a campaign going, mass publicize it, and ask for as much as you think you'll need, to build the linux version. "All the cool people are doing it."
If it works, you can keep doing campaigns every time you need to add something to it. So effectively this version of affinity becomes community funded all the way.

Krita has been doing this lately, and it works for them. Granted they ask for a lot less, but also they have a lot less to offer, so...

It's one way of doing it. :)

Mirror painting in particular is something that CSP also has, but wrap around mode I think Krita is one of the few apps that has it. AP could be another one too.

Both of these features are really good for ppl making textures and artists in general.

I am pretty much missing it, too.
But as always on Affinity Forums, a few hardcore posters decide over the masses of sometime-posters.
No idea why the money and wishes of a few "Dedicated Poster" is more important than the money and wishes of the masses. And until this changes, Affinity will stay a unimportant niche product. Sadly.

I know this is an old topic but I noticed mirror/symmetry mode in affinity photo lately and it reminded me of this. Every day as a game artist I make tiling textures and it would be absolutely amazing to have a wrap mode in affinity photo for editing/hand painting tiling textures. Krita's implementation of wrap mode is perfect, however to me that's one of Kritas only useful features and I'd like to be able to have this in Affinity photo where I made all of my edits to textures.

My typical workflow would be to start off in zbrush/substance designer to create my maps (albedo, normal, height, roughness etc) and sometimes do final manual tweaks to the textures in photoshop which also doesn't have a wrap mode, so I end up having to offset and edit constantly. wrap mode is the dream... I don't know how much work it would be to implement to affinity photo but it would certainly go a long way in getting game developers to notice Affinity.

It's an interesting question and I guess that we can't convince anyone with more than an educated guess type prediction that just might be as wrong as European Central Bank predictions for bank sustainability have proven to be wrong as often as not, even though they are made up by some of the most well-paid banking professionals.
What I personally believe is that Linux users - not everyone but generalized - are among the most creative people with a well weighed and tried preference and requirement profile that ended them up using Linux. There are also insanely creative people using Windows. However I'm making a generalization to show why I'm thinking this way, in case you're interested. People use Windows by default. Sociology student, history teacher, lawyer (working with scanned-in documents, it's crazy. But that's a different story. I talk to a lot of people on train commutes.) Most people stick to Windows, some try Mac OS. Of them, most stick to Mac OS, but some still not satisfied in need of more control move to Linux.
I mean, I know a huge amount of Windows users that just write a document, or play bejeweld or cards. See someone using a Windows laptop and talk to them. I'm pretty sure saying 1 in 10 is a creator (creative person working on some form of interesting media project) is very optimistic. But when you encounter a random MacOS user, odds are they are a creator. Maybe 4 out of 10 times when you ask what they do, turns out they are a creator, working on some interesting media project. However, when you see a Linux user on the train - which happens approximately 2.78% of the time - and you talk them, there is like a 10 to 1 chance that they are doing something extremely cool. Make music, work on a short animated movie, do some color grading or work on gaming mods.
I admit this is all anecdotal, but I meet a lot of people so for me my educated guess on the market is more like so, very rough rounded subjective numbers so I can estimate:
Desktop OS Market Creators Share Weighed ---------- ------ -------- ----- ------- Windows 80% 10% 8% 45% Mac OS 17.5% 40% 7% 40% Linux 2.5% 90% 2.25% 15% ----- + 100% The pickiness, refined opinion and philosophy that characterize Linux users will lead others to believe they are zealots - After all, Apple markets scarcity of choice because they target an audience that prefers it, while Linux is popularized by their abundance of choice, so naturally these people won't easily see eye to eye - but I know that sketching Linux users as zero-creative freeloaders is not a fair generalization. I would guesstimate on the opposite.
Referencing the guesstimated numbers above, if you humor me and see it could be plausible, here is the extra bacon: Windows and MacOS market are saturated. You need to steal market share from some other software. On Linux you'd be the first. There are no quality competitors. Yet. The creative market share is smaller, but the share is there for the grabbing. You don't have to fight for it. The users are begging you to sell them something.

Most companies that support Linux choose one, namely Ubuntu and stick with it.
Also, apps can be distributed in linux-unversal formats, so this is a lot less of a deal than it seems.

Kiori reacted to shushustorm in Straight tools when holding shift
    Hello everyone!
    This is another feature request.

I'd like to request a feature that lets users of Designer and Photo use tools in a straight way when holding shift.
For example, when I want to draw a straight line, holding down shift should draw a line between starting point and current cursor location.
This behaviour should be added to other tools as well.
If I want to use the "Smudge Brush Tool" or the "Inpainting Brush Tool" in a straight way, there is currently no way of doing so that I'm aware of.

Adding shift + alt for snapping to multiples of 45° between starting point and current cursor location could be very useful as well.

Also, I do know about left clicking using the "Paint Brush Tool", then holding shift and clicking at the end point to get a straight line. But this behaviour is limited to that tool and you don't get a live preview of the line or snapping to multiples of 90° or 45°.

The "Free hand Selection Tool" includes a similar feature to the one that I just requested. The difference is that the existing feature doesn't use the cursor location when left mouse clicking for its starting point, but rather the cursor location when starting to hold shift. This does make sense for that specific tool, but I think other tools would benefit from a set starting point at the time when mouse left is clicked. And that existing feature doesn't seem to have any snapping options either, which could be useful sometimes.

    Best wishes,
    Shu

For me either on AP or AD, the reason i don't do my pixel art in them is because you cant turn AA off, so for instance if i create a circle shape or a line shape depending. Or any of the other examples people mentioned it will go the AA route and ruin it.
Currently i use Clip Studio Paint for Pixel work, which has shape tools and works great all in all. I hope affinity implements a proper pixel toolset/way to draw anything in the software without AA.(or as people noted, with many AA options, including off)

    Hi Kiori,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
This is one of the most requested features (an automatic tracing tool if i understood you correctly). The dev team do intend to add one at some point assuming they are able to achieve the output/quality they expect.
We also have the ability to convert a pixel selection into a vector path in Designer's roadmap.

Another thing i forgot to mention about mirror mode, depending on how you implement it, you can end up having unlimited mirrors, to allow you to make mandalas and whatnot easily.

CSP has a system with rulers that is quite handy, but maybe the affinity devs can come up with something even better.

I would be great if when using the brush, as soon as you held shift, it would preview a line leading to the brush tip, in order for you to visualize where the new straight line will be placed, when you click.
Ideally helper rulers would also be activated and snapping, this could help when drawing straight connected shapes.

Regardless of that, it would a great feature to have. If you want a program that offers this feature as an example, check clip studio paint.

I hope to see this in AP also, in the future.

Anti-alias on/off checkbox would be easier for sure. Current coverage map has a bug by which it doesn't affect the whole line when strokes are aligned to the inside or the outside of a shape.

I think that it would be super cool if Affinity Photo like Photoshop added frame by frame animation, this is a huge downside to using

Affinity Photo for me, I don't think it should become a seperate product since, well, I already have Affinity Photo, I do not need a full

fledged animator and they already have their hands busy. The idea would be you could makes frames and export them as .gifs and

maybe .mp4's? that would be cool! all the features would pretty much be a copy of photoshop (maybe some cool feature aswell.), then

cartoonists could animate, photo editors could do some sick things and designers could make sick banners and internet .gifs, If affinity

added this, I would completely forget about photoshop and leave it in the dust, affinity is amazing and with animation it would be great!
