dalischka reacted to MEB in Grade UI.afassets file doesn't open
Hi kennaday,
Welcome to Affinity Forums
That's not a regular affinity document but an assets file you have to import from the Assets panel. Go to menu View ▸ Studio ▸ Assets to open the Assets panel, then click the small menu icon on the top right of the panel and select Import Assets..., browse to that .afassets file, select it and it should import the assets to the Assets panel as a new category. To use them just drag them from the Assets panel to the canvas.

You are right about the background...I got tired and lazy. Changed the background and put a bit of perspective on the wood (from CG Textures) using Gimp, added some wires out the back of the speaker, and a bit more touch up on the speaker (I left a layer off the bottom (side of speaker) last time). Appreciate your input!

dalischka reacted to SalfingerAndrew in Beyond Horizon - Game made with Affinity + Unity
Beyond Horizon is a 2D side-scroller game focusing on story and exploration both on land and within the stars. Explore dungeons, towns or fight space pirates with your ship, while uncovering the lore and the secrets behind the Sigma and the original race, all of this is just Beyond the horizon.
Join the Discord Community!
Follow development on Notion! What is the game about:
Beyond Horizon follow Aito after his grandfather suddenly has to leave, 3 years later with no return he tries to save up everything he has in-order to afford a spaceship to go after him.
While on a routine mission to find a missing cargo supply he comes across a stone that once touched absorbs into Aito giving him powers along with a map to 8 location. Unknowingly awakening an evil force to his location.
Now to save his town the only option is to flee, they attempt to lure the Sigma away with his friends in a stolen spaceship, now the only option is to run. Following the map to each location in the hopes to stop this Sigma killing the system.
About the Project:
Beyond Horizon is a small project I've been working on for a couple of years now, starting off as a 2d pixel art game before moving into this mixture of vector and semi-realistic textures that I started to play around with while working on an illustrated calendar.
I'm currently working on this project solo so production on the game has been slow (along with changing a lot of things required to re-start from the ground up) and I felt like I should start sharing the project. WIP: Below are some screenshots and videos from my work in progress of the game. dalischka reacted to Deadbyxmas in Affinity illustrations and experiments
Thanks all, I'll try to share as much as I can. Jeki, I use textures (sometimes), so import some on a layer, mask it using shape you want to add the texture to (that's why it's so easy to add textures to vector pics). And then adjust the kind of blend (overlay, soft light etc) for the effect you want to achieve. I actually like it subtle.
For instance I used one on the next pic - which is a Affinity forum exclusive!
thanks again

dalischka reacted to Deadbyxmas in Affinity illustrations and experiments
Wow, thanks guys, I'm really thankful for your comments.
Kasper: the paper thing is something I should do more often - although the typical test is standing away from the paper, or monitor etc. Once I used to just photocopy drawings or print them out, just to have a brand new perspective! And anyway a lot of my sketches are pretty small, as I try to capture quickly what I have in mind rather than dwelling on the details....it has its pros and cons.
Sorin: it hasn't, it was a great find and it has somewhat revolutionized my work - actually I use it also when I do non strictly vector work, as a base to work out colours and shapes.
Seanh: thanks - that's the biggest problem, style! Always changing my mind about things, which is probably a style in itself!
A_B_C: it's a humbling comparison, and actually, an eye opener. Hopper is one of the artists always in the back of my mind, but when people ask me about influences he's not the first that springs to mind, although I agree it's certainly present (I only wish!)
Onur: it's a virtuous circle, so many people inspire me!
Peter and Kodiak: glad that comes through, as I put quite a lot of attention to that aspect, I think it helps immensely for immersion.
I have other affinity stuff to share, but I will post now something I've just been working on. I'm still not sure whether it's completed or not, or what to think of it. It's a kind of an experiment - and moreover, I haven't really shared it anywhere yet, and I love coming up with titles and still clueless with this one!

Thanks Chris, thank you for looking!
I was looking through the past posts, and I noticed I had never posted "no service 1", so here you go - along with another piece from around the same time called "Menchikatsu not included - Sunday in Nippori".
best!

Some more of the commercial stuff - website/blog/article etc icons. I did loads of these with this style, probably over 100, so really wouldn't know what to share, so picking very randomly 4 that are ready to go (as they were all used on the same webpage)

dalischka reacted to TonyJ in Blue demon sketch WIP
Started painting again after a long layoff. My Wacom Intuos 3 large died after many years of service. Trying to get used to my new tablet a Huion Inspiroy Q11K V2.

Seems more than up to the Wacom and very pleased, works well with AP. Sketch a bit rough but then I'm rusty.

One of my first vector works in Designer... and what I imagine when I misread "planetarium" (which is often).
Your comments, feedback, and most of all, time, are much appreciated!

dalischka reacted to unni in Focus stacking - 160 and 25 frames
My first test on focus stack. The speed of processing was impressive since the working space was set to prophoto-16 bit. It took only a few minutes to complete
25 images alignment and stacking. To compare, one single frame and the final stacked image are enclosed. Only minimal editing (curves and USM) is done on the stack. The output
is very good. Soon I will be testing with 70 to 160 images taken with microscope objectives.
Camera- Nikon D3100, Lens Tamron 90mm Macro, f18, 1/3 sec, ISO 200.
This is the final stack.
The image below is one of the 25 frames.

I am adding another image made with AP Focus stacking . @John Rostron
Subject: A very small moth with total head size less than 1mm.
Stack: 160 images
Lens: Microscope objective-PLAN Achromat-10X Magnification
Camera: Nikon D3100
Field of view : 2.5mm x 1.5mm
Software: Only Affinity Photo used.
Remarks: The performance and rendering of AP is very good. The halo and general quality is related to original image. Use of an APO objective will make the image much better. No special care has been taken during shooting . The shooting setup is completely homebrew and not commercial macro rails which has electronic controls and stepper motors.
Note: To view full size, please click on the image. When a + sign cursor appears, click again to open the image in a new window. In the new window, press once again. The image will go full size and cursor will become - . Pressing again will bring back to "fit in window size". Its a toggle.
For giving an idea on the DOF, one image of the stack is below.

dalischka reacted to Kiarian in Gran Turismo Sport - Super Mario Kart
Gran Turismo Sport now allow users to import SVG files for the in-game livery editor. The only thing is, the SVG file has to be below 15Kb in memory, which is pretty tiny.
It's a nice challenge though, to chop away as much unneeded information as possible, but to still get a good quality image. I created this vector file using Affinity Designer, which I then exported as the SVG file.
I then used the livery editor to give my bog standard go-kart a new design.
The Gran Turismo screenshots are in game. I'm just showing them to illustrate how the decal design looks on the go-kart!
