The extremely promotional video Serif posted, announcing the new V2 suite as a game changer was a complete disappointment. The most basic features*, which I won't enumerate here, but which can be found in the forum, spanning years (!) are still not implemented. Why isn't Affinity a little more humble with its marketing and a little more focused on (professional) users needs ? I don't know and I don't care anymore.
Yes, the price is great. But you get what you pay for.
(*Publisher, which is key for switching to Affinity for me)

This is a feature I use a lot (!) in Adobe Photoshop. Please include it in V2 Affinity Photo ASAP. Thank you.

It didn't take me a day to find out that Publisher wasn't goint to replace InDesign any time soon... but I bought it anyways to show support for the development of a more mature release. But I must admit, it is / has been a long wait.

No, I don't think so. But maybe expectations where a bit high and it has been literally years these apps have been stuck in version 1.x.

discussing footnotes for APublisher is like discussing Trump's crimes and expecting an indictment. It may or may not happen. 🙂
Affinity, what is the roadmap for the desktop version (I can't see myself working on a tablet for DTP) ?

PS maybe there should be a Pro Version of AP with all the bell's and whistles (c.f. Adobe InDesign). The current version reminds me of an app called Swift Publisher my kids used years ago to format their school publications. (Just checked and It actually still exists). Not a bad app by any means.

Yeah, for me Publisher has been pretty useless for the last 3 years. ... and this thread is still active. I am pretty disappointed by Affinity. I really was hoping they'd be a little more responsive to the most obvious things that are still missing ... footnotes, just being one of them. Who is this software directed to ? It's ok for single page or simple spreads but I would rather pay Adobe for InDesign than try to bypass all the lacking stuff with workarounds.

PS.: I just googled PagePlus to find that it is in fact a Serif App ! I don't understand is why so many features that are in PagePlus are still not present in Publisher ?

I can totally agree. It just makes sense. Another advantage of having this feature is that you can export individual pages as PDF's for the client to review or for the printer to print (some printers want individual pages, not spreads). If all 7 pages are on a single "page" as it has to be done currently in AP that is not possible.

Maybe they should adapt their policy regarding the one time payments for their software. As much as I like it, I would be more than willing to pay for important updates if that would help to increase the cash flow at Affinity so they can hire more developers to make the Suite a viable alternative to Adobe.

totally agree. It's getting so terribly frustrating to have to wait so long for features that most professionals use every day.

I'm sure someone else might have suggested this, but I hope my post helps to vote for this feature to move from the backlog and into development. It's surprising to find this post has been here for over 6 years.
I can't believe that a one man show has built an app that has features like "auto-trace" that Designer is still lacking after all these years. I've been tearing out my hair this morning trying to transition from Illustrator to Designer and had to download Inkscape to trace a bitmap. Thanks Inkscape. I'm slowly but surly loosing my patience with the Affinity apps.

I havn't read through the whole thread but this is my short story:
I bought the Affinity Trio when they came out a couple of years ago. The idea was to encourage them (financially) and to show them my support for the development of an alternative to the comparable Adobe Trio, fully knowing that the software couldn't replace the Adobe offering immediately.
At present, I still have to use Adobe Indesign software because some basic features, most notably for me, multipage spreads with different page dimensions and foot-notes are not implemented. I could use Designer and Photo with some pain to replace Photoshop and Illustrator but I definitely couldn't use Publisher to replace Indesign at the moment because publishing work is currently my main income source and every project almost needs one or the other feature not currently implemented in AffPub.
As much as I would like to DITCH ADOBE once and for all, at the time of my writing this rant, it is regrettably not possible.
I am a little disappointed. I was hoping that Affinity's goal was to build a suite that professional designers could actually use as an alternative to the Adobe offering and that within a couple of years or so that goal would be attained. But I guess I was wrong. Maybe it will take longer. As every one seems to suggest, it took Indesign to mature over 10 years or so... Maybe, but I cant wait that long. I would be more than willing to pay for big updates so that features that professional publishers really use could be implemented in a timely manner.
