Funny. Changed the password to a similar one (in terms of character structure). This time, no problems. I guess it's not worth investigating further.
    Thanks, Patrick.

    Hi guys,
I tried to test the feature after the initial release but failed to sign in to my affinity account. Now I decided to give it another try, the result is the same though. I am assuming one is supposed to use the affinity.store credentials, not the serif.com user. I can login to the store website but not to My Account in AfPub (The password you have entered is incorrect.).
Any idea what am I doing wrong?

Hi guys, a minor bug you may want to look into when there are no more important issues.
Insert an image (icon for instance) and pin it to the first word of a paragraph (pin position does not really matter though).  Paste new text into the paragraph (and overwrite your pin, thus deleting the image). Think: "Ah, darn, I did it again. I wanted to keep the bloody image." Press Cmd + Z to save the day. The original contents will reappear – but the proportions of the pinned image will be completely different (and cannot be easily restored other than typing them manually to the Transform fields) Disclaimer: It's perfectly possible that I am just not doing something right. If that's the case, just let me know.
Anyhow, thanks again for the brilliant piece of software you unleashed on us! I really love every minute working in the Affinity suite.
    Cheers to the UK!

Mike, I couldn't agree more about the "cleverness" of installing fonts separately to restrict them to certain applications only.
Microsoft has been doing this for some time with Office for Mac—for reasons which remain a mystery to me. If anyone wants to use the faces in other software (which is often not the brightest idea, considering that most Microsoft legacy fonts are intended for screen use and not suitable for serious DTP work) it's a simple matter of copying the font files from one folder to another...

    Status: Public Beta
    Purpose: General Testing

Hi, you may have recently received an email about build 128, but here on the cutting edge we have build 133 for you. Hopefully we will put it on Auto Update early next week, but for now it is just a manual download.
As this is a beta it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity where you may be adversely affected by the application failing, including the total loss of any documents.
We hope you enjoy the product, and as always, if you've got any problems installing or running up, please don't hesitate to post in this thread.
Any problems actually using this version please make a new topic in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Please feel free to leave general suggestions and comments in the Discussion Forum. Many thanks for your continued feedback.

First and foremost – GREAT job with Publisher guys. The speed, UI, UX and look and feel in general are so much better than with the established competitors! Hats off so far!
That said, there's one bug I find particularly annoying: Master pages are not rendered correctly on right-hand spread pages when you save and reopen the file. The layer is there but the contents are not displayed. Re-applying the master helps – until you save and reopen again. I have observed thisin the demo Affinity Brochure too - page 7, dark background is not rendered.
Am I the only one affected by this?
Keep up the excellent work, Publisher is shaping up to be a bad surprise for the DTP behemoths ;-)

Goner__ reacted to Stephen_H in Please keep Design, Photo and Publisher separate, focused apps.
I see lots of typography-based feature requests for Affinity Designer. This is not surprising since a lot of us are designers using very mature Adobe software and text wrap, linked text boxes, bullets, columns etc are all essential features for layout.

However, we have Photo for photo editing, Designer for illustration and [hopefully soon] Publisher for layout.

I think a lot of these "essential" typo features are being requested because Publisher has not yet been released. Designer should not get these advanced type features because they are aimed at layout, not illustration. Typo features that should be in Designer, should be limited to artistic effects like envelope distortions for warping and advanced text on path. My rule of thumb would be "if I can use the feature to design a logo, then it should be in Designer, if it's needed for a brochure, then it should be in Publisher".

If we look at the Adobe line-up... sure Illustrator has got a truckload of text features that allow you to do typographic layouts, but I think that's part of Adobe's failings. I have designers who work for me who make me tear my hair out when they insist on using Illustrator for a 20 page brochure – it's possible but it's not the right tool for the job. Then they go and design a logo in PhotoShop – again, possible, but not the tool for the job. (Illustrator REALLY lost the plot when they added multiple pages/artboards)

I think this comes from the fact that for many years, Adobe has been adding features from other applications and calling them "upgrades". Instead of innovation and reworking old tools, we just get shared feature sets. This is exactly what I consider to be "application bloat".

I hope the developers at Affinity don't give in to all the requests to add missing features to Designer, when these missing features are actually a request for a missing application.

Please Affinity, keep your apps focussed, efficient, streamlined and well-considered. Please don't turn all of them into a Jack-of-all-trades. Your pricing is low enough to force me by Publisher if I need typographic features.

I'm concerned that when Publisher comes out, customers will pick and choose which, single app they want based on a collection of broad features that satisfy 70% of their needs, and then complain that it's missing features. Rather, we should buy the suite and get all the features we need, than try to get one app upgraded to the point where we don't need the others.

I guess my post could also read "Please speed up delivery of Publisher", or at least give us a few more  teasers – even just a full feature list of version 1.0 so we can stop asking for what is already on its way.

Thanks guys for great software. I'm very optimistic for the future – a future without the need to have Adobe software on my computer. (and great typographic tools in Publisher is the last stepping stone to that future)

    :)

    Hi Steffen,

I am afraid your description (both the title and content) is way too generic for them to help you.

PDF exports work alright for me and your crashes will be related to your file. Therefore:
    (1) try to change the title to something like "Crash when exporting a PDF" and
    (2) ideally attach the .afdesign file (if possible with respect to size or confidentiality constraints). If the file is too large, you will be asked to PM it to one of the devs.

Your issues are much more likely to be looked at and fixed if you do this and provide the information needed.

    Cheers!

Goner__ reacted to Dave Harris in Why Publisher shouldn't be released anytime soon
Thanks for your comments. I have to say that making a clone of InDesign is not our goal; we have our own vision. Also, our plan is to release Publisher as soon as it has enough to be useful to someone. We won't wait until it can do everything InDesign can do and more. As a result, you can expect the first version to be quite basic. In the same way that Designer is still missing things like arrow heads which are crucial to some people, Publisher will be missing features that some of you will need. I don't want you to think we are already sitting on a basic Publisher and not releasing it because we want to add more advanced features first.

Publisher is delayed simply because it is taking us longer than we expected. I can't say too much about what we have and haven't done, but here's an example: text styles are a crucial Publisher feature, and the reason they are in Designer 1.5 and not earlier is because they weren't developed earlier. In general, when we have a Publisher feature complete that we think also belongs in Designer, we'll include it in Designer as soon as it is ready. (The caveat is that there are some features we know you'd like to see in Designer, that we don't think belong in it.)

I'm sorry it is taking so long, and I'm especially sorry that our past timelines for Publisher were so wildly optimistic. Our original vision of three apps all sharing a file format and a common way of working, was something we were very excited about. That exuberance spilled into some fairly delirious announced schedules. We will get there. We're still excited about the vision and determined to bring it about, just as soon as we can.

A quick update: Just heard from a different developer and allegedly this issue may be Apple's fault and should be fixed in 10.12.1. At least the developer assured me it was already fixed in 10.12.1 Beta 3.

I doubt we'll even attempt editable text in PSD export until long after Publisher is released. It will take months to do, and that time would be taken from the Publisher budget, so Publisher would be delayed by (further) months. I'm sorry, but Publisher has been delayed enough already and we don't want it to be any later than it needs to be.
