  1. Didn't read everything, but:

Going from 300DPI to 72DPI, you're spreading the pixels 300/72 as wide. 300/72=4,166..

So 100mm becomes 416,66mm. Seems reasonable to me. If previously different, seems like a fixed bug from V1 to V2.

Unless, of course, I missed that you want to resample. In that case, pixel count changes and real world dimensions stay the same.

  2. Thanks for all the interesting replies.
Just out of curiosity, about two months later, I recently gave the current version another try, and while some of the initially mentioned issues did improve, it's still quite a mess and some issues just seem so obvious, it's puzzling:
    - It seems the button on lower left can't be disabled anymore, at all, blocking screen space real estate, while I'm not using it at all, making it even worse than before.
    - There is a new feature, using a tool by swiping on an icon, yet I need to scroll on the tool bar to get to certain tools. How does that work out? Badly.
    - 3D filter still only shows one light source when adding further ones.
    - It's great that Designer now has Duplicate when touch & holding by accessing the quick menu, but getting rid of the small menu bar completely isn't optimal either, since when you only need copy or paste (or duplicate in Photo), you now have much more screen travel than before on a funcion that's used quite frequently, making it incredibly exhausting. I'd suggest reinstantiating the old menu, including duplicate for Designer and invoking the new one by other means (maybe touch & hold, then swipe up).

.... and I just tried for a couple of minutes. Still doesn't compare to V1, so in my case, it's no use to keep all V2 installations along V1 on a 64GB device. Maybe Designer 2 to port Knife and Shape Builder paths back to V1. Not that I could go V2 all-in anyway, given that it's not running on my macOS anymore.
I wanted to update my original post to reflect the current status, but there's no Edit button to be found. Also, I wanted to like a few more posts than I did, but apparently, I ran out of reactions (as you do).
Since I don't want to discuss a lot, but focus on reporting issues that are hopefully being fixed some day, I'm only replying to some statements here and in a short manner:
    @fde101
I can restore apps and data from a backup any time by having a full device backup on my Mac. I can also delete and install individual apps, all offline. But I cannot restore IAPs, making me dependant on Serif's future (and / or future decisions and policies).
    @MoonaticDestiny
Ah it's all well! They did include a number of features I supported, be it .jpg quality preview, saving workspaces, fixing quite a number of bugs. And even Vectornator managed to finally make layers not such a big mess it used to be! It's all good! I just posted this topic, since with V2, I'm essentially hitting a dead end. Just can't make use of it like V1.
    @MEB
    Thanks for forwarding!

  3. Hey everyone!
I'm sorry, but after having bought the universal license and done some testing, I deleted V2 Designer, Publisher and Photo from my iPad.
Publisher would have been great to work on files due to using Designer and Photo tools via Studio link (I'm not even doing layout stuff!) and I'd have used Designer for its export persona if I don't need editing the file later on or port .svg to V1 (quite limited, but with knife and shape builder in V2 at least somewhat interesting).
In its current state, however, the suite is a massive downgrade from V1 and even with the knife tool, shape builder and the quick menu being great tools that do work wonders on workflow efficiency, it's still much slower and quite risky to work with:
    - No V1 file compatibility
    - Online activation required
as well as the following issues:
    - Only starts up to my files section if there are files already
    - Can't double tap layers to expand and collapse
    - Button lower left has to be disabled each time when opening a file
    - Bars left and right show last icon only by scrolling even though there is room for displaying them (iPad mini 5)
    - Frequent crashes (about 5-7 times per hour) by just using the knife, boolean operations or the shape builder
    - Shape outline sporadically creating blobs at start of vertex loop when shape was created by shape builder
    - Grouping layers (very basic) takes two taps instead of one, yet I got massive UI for sorting layers (probably rarely needed in general; personally, I never need it)
    - Couldn't find vector warp on iPad
I can't remember alpha or beta testing any software that included such a number of huge workflow impairing issues that were regressions from a previous version. And this is a release. Frequent crashes and missing V1 compatibility are the worst ones.
Sad. Not going for a refund, though. Hope it gets better (worthwhile). You did a great job with V1 after all.
Not really going to discuss here any further. For the time being, I'll keep using V1 and be productive.
    Best wishes,
    Shu

    [EDIT:

Two months later, testing again, some issues are solved, others appeared. Current issues:

    - No V1 file compatibility
    - Online activation required
    - Only starts up to my files section if there are files already

    - Button lower left has to be disabled each time when opening a file (changed now, but should probably be a per app setting rather than per document)
    - Bars left and right show last icon only by scrolling even though there is room for displaying them (iPad mini 5)
    - There is a new feature, using a tool by swiping on an icon, yet I need to scroll on the tool bar to get to certain tools. How does that work out? Badly.
    - 3D filter still only shows one light source when adding further ones.

  4. Hey everyone!

Not sure this is intended, a bug or I'm doing something wrong, but:

When showing all my files, in V1, I could tap on a file's menu button and save it (overwrite), rename it, close it. Now I only have the X for closing. Tap & hold only seems to result in dragging.

From within the file, I can also just export or "Save as", but I want to overwrite.

May or may not be the same for Designer and Photo. I'm using iPad mini 5, iOS 15.7.1, Publisher 2.0.1.

    Best wishes,

    Shu

  5. Just in case this is missing one: A shining example for this issue is MindNode (as stated, only one of several softwares that I had to discontinue usage).
I used it excessively. Until they went that road:

    1. Early versions: One time direct purchase from the App Store (great!).
    2. Later versions: Free app (trial) and IAP for unlocking the software (uncertain future!)
    3. Current versions: Subscription (ugh).

They even just replaced 2. with 3., so at some point, just by updating your IAP software, you were suddenly using subscription software. The whole thing just changed its terms. Granted, they did make sure previous users could still use the features they once purchased, but that's only them investing time for the sake of being reasonable.

Affinity is now at 2. Not saying 3. will ever be the next step. I sure hope not, especially considering their marketing.

When I want to move to a new hardware, I backup and restore from backup. Works with Mac, iPad, iPhone, wonderfully. Restores all the applications, .ipas as well on iOS, all the licenses. However, IAPs aren't restored. And being able to unlock the software again, years from now, is pure speculation. You're at the mercy of the company (and Apple!) not just leaving the product available for existing customers, but also the according IAP for a product that may be considered obsolete at that point.
You may want to go through your own iOS App Store purchase history and if you didn't do that before, you may be surprised how many apps aren't available for download any more (even with the cloud symbol being displayed!). Don't know how many are shown, but unavailable on my list (have faced that occassionally), but even just the obvious ones: For me, 35 cloud symbols are missing. At that point, it's reasonable to assume (not completely certain, you still may try!) their IAPs are gone as well and your IAP software is "lost" once you have to restore from a backup or move to a new machine.

No, you're not, as previous versions will be available from Serif

I don't see how that would work on iPad, though.

You can purchase from Microsoft or Apple stores instead if you feel more comfortable. Those licences are tied to their services instead.

Related: You can activate your licence then remain completely disconnected from the internet. It’s a one-time check.

Well, it's still tied to a store (server running and product available), you're still depending on that. I did run into situations with various softwares being removed or changing ownership and license terms which I wasn't happy with. Had to discontinue usage of those softwares. One doesn't really want that risk if not needed.

Not being able to open 2.0 files in 1.10 (or 1.9, or ...) just continues that characteristic.

That's been a pain already. But they didn't change system requirements during V1 (that I'm aware of). The "only" thing holding you back from updating was fear of bugs (quite plausible, but not quite the dealbreaker as comes with V2).

Sorry for double post, don't know how to cut & paste quotes.

When word went from 2007 to 2010 (doc to docx) a similar situation occurred, you could not open docx with 2007 so after creating a fancy document with the full formatting tool of 2010

    The equivalent here would be

    - Word 2010 not being able to export to .doc, but only .docx* and

    - users complaining about Affinity V1 not being able to handle V2 features.

    Both is not the case.

Data supported by V1 should be usable by V1. Be it exported by V1 or by V2.

Having backward compatibility is a very big undertaking for us to do with files I'm afraid.

I do hope you reconsider your stance on that. Not because I personally want V1 compatibility all that much (would be nice and quite useful, sure!), but because I want to use quality Affinity software not just for the time being, but for the next decades, which requires you to keep being successful. However, this may (or may not - sure, noone knows) become quite a pivotal issue.

You never own the software, only the right to use it.

That's why I put it in quotation marks.

What he said is that the universal license requires you to connect to the internet to activate it. In case someone can't, like corporations doing it for security reasons, then they can't activate it. If outage or a disaster happens to Affinity servers, or if they decided to shut them down, you won't be able to install it on new hardware. This means you lost your right to use it.

That sums it up quite nicely! Just a little detail added: It's not just the universal license, all licenses on macOS and iPad require In-App purchases being done or restored rather than having a dependable executable or .ipa by buying the app directly. Of course, the universal license does require even an additional jumping through Affinity's server's hoop, but there is no definitive alternative even when buying the softwares separately (, which I did consider due to this issue).
