  1. I'm seeing it now, too, but sometimes it only briefly disappears and when I go back it doesn't happen, other times I can get it to remain hidden by stopping the cursor in just the wrong spot like in your clip. I've been playing around with lots of different settings and all I can say is that zooming out makes it more noticeable/easier to reproduce, and it only seems to happen when sliding the node horizontally (even with all snapping options turned off), but it does not happen when dragging (resizing) from one side in transform mode with both nodes selected.

still waiting for reflowing embedded content like images .... I know Affinity say it's on the to-do list

It's not just 'on the todo list' anymore, it's being worked on. :27_sunglasses:

It's not just one person developing Affinity, and those things probably didn't take much time.

    - Added new “Transform object separately” mode into Move tool.

I've wanted this for a long time. Awesome to finally have it! One extra little thing that would be cool is if power duplicating in this mode would also use the individual deltas, which I couldn't find a way to do. I hope this is not too hard to implement.

It already works with custom rotation centers which is excellent!

    - Tool cycling will now start with the last remembered tool in the group.

This was one of my pet peeves and I'm so happy about this change! Now I no longer have to hit 'T' twice to get past the art text tool all the time.

Thank you for the good work!

Imagine you have a text frame with some contents on a master page. Then this text frame and its contents will be propagated to all pages based on this master page. Now, suppose there is just one page in your document that should feature a different content in the propagated text frame.

@R C-R: No, what people in this thread are looking for is, placing a text frame on a master page, and having this text frame work as template, meaning whenever you add more text or pages, the text flows from one page to the next, using the text frame / dimensions set up on the master page.

I tried it last night. Creates new pages which is ok but 2 key things are missing:

    • you can't change the design of the text frames across all the pages by simply making a change to the master page template frames
    • you can't have more complex designs, eg two or more linked frames on a page which then auto create new pages

its also too easy to accidentally change a frame on page 7 of 20 for example .. when if the frames were defined on a master page they would be not easy t change (a good thing)

Almost all of these needs are met by the Symbols panel and I don't understand why almost no one ever mentions Symbols (except @R C-R ), as if it's the 30-year-old son who lives in the basement. I must be missing something here because I think the Symbols feature is great and I feel like the Affinity team aren't capitalizing on it and don't want to for some reason.

Hint: the orange border on master layers shows that they're Symbols. Unlock a master layer, open the Symbols panel (View→Studio→Symbols), click the 'Sync' button to disable syncing, and make some changes, such as editing some text. When you're done, remember to toggle the Sync option again and lock the master layer to prevent accidents. You can later change any other attributes across all pages, except for text (including color/style), but you can use Text Styles to keep such changes shared.

I imagine it isn't ideal for the workflows that some may have coming from other software packages, and I appreciate the devs baking a more fitting solution, but I'd say it's a decent enough workaround for many cases that at least deserves to be mentioned in threads like this.

    Cheers, guys!

  5. Have you tried Master Pages aka Symbols? You can toggle the Sync option to customize master objects on individual pages. The big problem, I think, is not having a clear indication whether sync is on or off (you have to check the icon, and even that is a bit low in contrast), and not being able to re-sync attributes. Being able to set some attributes to be desync'ed by default would also help.

  6. I discovered a highly reproducible (>75%) and contagious hang in Affinity Publisher Beta 1.7.0.206.

When I simply select a rectangle shape and an HSL adjustment layer, it hangs. Moreover, if I don't force quit AfPub within ~5 seconds, the hang becomes infectious and starts incapacitating one program after another as I hopelessly vie to shackle this MEGALOMANIC Mêе§å (Dock→Force Quit, Activity Monitor, ⌥⌘⎋, etc).

After a hard reboot, in Console.app there are messages like this corresponding to my futile actions:

  7. Oops, I was going to ask a question, and forgot to change to the other forum before posting that.

I think it could be possible because you can for example drag files and text between apps, and you can start dragging screenshots (⇧⌘4) in one app, command+tab to a different app and then when you release the mouse button it will capture the other app's windows. So there are examples of this functionality, but maybe this is something only Apple can do.

  8. Hello,

I have two suggestions for the colour picker in the Colour & Swatches studios.

    1. Hold option/alt to immediately apply the picked colour to the selected layers.
    2. Keep the loupe active when switching apps as long as the mouse button is held down. This is so we can easily pick colours from other windows without having to resize the Affinity window, pick the colour, and resize the window again.

    Thank you for your consideration.

  9. Some reasons why I personally dislike the Mac App Store:

    1. It is slow, outdated and frustrating to use.
      • Startup is slow, pages are slow to load, even Back/Forward sometimes reloads a page instead of using a cache.
      • No tabs/windows/bookmarks.
      • No wishlists.
      • Bad text-only search, no filtering.
      • Can't zoom screenshots.
      • No videos (I thought they finally made it possible a few years ago but I've never actually seen a video on any product page since then).
      • Can't select text.
      • Doesn't show tooltips for truncated text. This is especially problematic when many developers clutter the listing name with marketing text, sometimes even full sentences.
    2. It doesn't allow bundles/deals, upgrades, transferring licenses.
    3. Mandatory sandboxing excludes many great tools.
    4. MAS apps randomly require me to sign in (and therefore to be connected to the internet) when I launch them from time to time.
    5. Apple breaks downloaded installers: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/03/03/older-os-x-installers-broken-by-certificate/
    6. There's no way to download older versions of apps. Therefore you also can't revert to a previous version when there's a major problem.
    7. If I don't update an app for a while, and then want to update when the latest version no longer supports my system, then I'm SOL, I can't get the latest bugfix version for my system.

So yeah, direct purchasing is still the way to go for me, and googling, and sites like MacUpdate and AlternativeTo are better ways to find apps, and I'm glad that Affinity is now available outside the MAS. I will definitely be buying Affinity Publisher through the website.

  10. Hi nrx, and welcome to the Affinity forum!

I agree, but I would say it's better to keep the cursor hugging the edge. blendr.png.79208ad9eb76fc60105b19afbeadb6ac.pngBlender uses the wrap-around approach in the 3D viewport and I don't like it because it's not always predictable where the cursor ends up and I have to find it again if I was looking at something else (i.e. the effects of the parameter change).

    blender_cursor_wrap.gif.4ed9e574abb49799a2d661f92e861efc.gif

E.g. if I change a value by 250 the cursor may end up at the right edge of the screen, but if I change a value by 251 it may end up at the opposite side. My hand cannot naturally tell the difference between those two movements. But if the cursor simply stopped moving, it would be close by or at least the distance would be proportional to the magnitude of my hand movement, bounded by the edge, and always in the same direction.

Alternatively the cursor could be fixed in place. Although it may feel a bit unnatural at first, I think this is still a better option than teleporting the cursor.

  11. Hi Vaughn771, and welcome to the forums!

What is happening here is that when you click that arrow-cursor button, it automatically selects the image layer itself and switches to the Move tool. The reference frame is a feature of the Picture Frame tool and and only shows when a (Picture Frame) layer is selected.

Perhaps the Picture Frame tool should remain active and the reference frame could work with image layers directly, but I'm not sure what ramifications that could have for other use cases. I, for one, don't see any significant differences between the Picture Frame tool and the Move tool when an image layer is selected.
