Shame on me  ..........   ha ha  .........     I usually open up Affinity Designer via Spotlight, ..... just enter Aff and get the results. And usually I get the beta, the normal version at first places, so did so, and clicked the non beta version.
Good you replied, just checked the version, .........   1.10.6 ........  had the Designer 1 version, where the problem was present like in the previous 2 version.
Now checked the updated 2 version, buttons are working fine now. Sorry for the confusion!

I think the problem is bigger than I thought. I often have problems, getting a reaction when clicking in the options button. But did not investigate that much, until now. See new video, that is really bad, ......  I am just working on some graphics, and it is not so nice, not knowing where to click, to get the button react .......  see video:

In Finder I guess this has to do with apples scaling options, as I am working on a 4k sreen, but display is set to standard which is scaled. I can see mouse cursor is making 2 pixel jumps when I zoom the screen and watch mouse action. This is a known issue with apple users working with larger displays as far as I know.

Thanks for your report!
I can confirm that I've been able to replicate this on macOS, but not on Windows - therefore I am logging this with our development team now.
Unfortunately I'm not seeing the same issue in Finder, so you may need to contact Apple Support regarding this.

That sounds like you're launching the application with the Ctrl key pressed. If you're not doing it intentionally, perhaps your Ctrl key is sticking?

Just been searching my a...se off for changing bleed settings, ......   and, thanks Affinity / Serif guys, ....  another bug, miss, or how ever you want to call it. Good they can make it in new V2 version creating new bugs, misses, shows its a very creative (bug) company. Why am I writing like I do? Cause they costed me already so much time over the years with bugs, problems, not documented infos, .....   and same now here.
Professional software? Only if you can create enough workarounds for not working or missing stuff. Create a new document with bleeds, to then copy all from document with no bleeds into new document? Ha ha ha ha ha .....     (not funny at all) Just been searching for half an hour for hidden settings, somewhere ... and also online help is no help here.
And the worst thing: Be prepared this will get fixed with V3 Designer, not earlier. There will be new stuff with updates, but seldom fixed problems, thats my experience over the years as a user from the beginning. Why am I using it then? Cause there is plenty of stuff working fine, but as you all know it is the little needles, the little oder bigger problems that stop your project, your work, that makes you angry. And obvious things like this bleed problem make me really wonder:
Who did ever really tested this software, under real working conditions before they gave it to the stores?
 

Btw it is the same story with Affinity apps since years, .... update 2.1 is announced, ......  with new features, but problems do not get fixed, as I can see in beta version. For example bleed settings, options, .... document settings .......   nope! 
 
New options, new buttons, new stuff ....  seems as this is the only thing interesting the Affinity guys!
Do fix the obvious missing points, not working options, and from many users wanted  options like finally visible active tools and buttons, bleed settings .....  and when all this is done, and the users are happy, ....  then you may bring new stuff!
What is more important? App working fine and happy users? Or not happy users and more new options often just bringing more new problems? Think about that!
 

Thanks from my side too! Super! But a shame that it is not part of Designer yet ......  Illustrator can do! Thats part of the reason I more often use AI now.

This missing feature has been requested multiple times since 2015, but it never appeared.
You can try a few workarounds:
create a new image brush having a simple black to white gradient horizontally (helper object in file, export selection as png) apply this brush to the curve add a gradient map adjustment  This works in general.

Using Affinity Designer since the start, I not been happy with bugs, and the way (not really) these are handled after report. New updates been comin, with more new features (not sure if some of these features been so important new deals) but bugs remained. Now we got 1.7 .... the new Publisher, and new bugs, here with Designer.
My question: Are we beta testers for software, we paid for? 
I want to work with the apps I been buying, I want to be sure, the apps work fine. I do not want to spend my time writing bug reports, 
test all possible settings on my mac, .....  no!
I really like the apps, but I would prefer more stable apps when new updates show up, all problems solved, ..... and then when all done may be new features. 
How long did it take to give us arrows in Designer? .....   funny? ....  nada ... this is not funny, this is just one thing: Poor!
Version 1.6 Designer had bugs until 1.7 .... now with new bugs.

Yes, there are reports from Serif that they have identified it as an issue and are working on it. And as you say it also seems that it is affecting all versions and pretty much all three applications.
After three months or so it is beyond comprehension that this is still not fixed. It is annoying me several times a day, to the point that I’m completely fed up with it now. 
 
Serif, if you don’t have the resources, let us know and we’re happy to pay for upgrades. But the business model can never be to cater a product to the professional market at a cheap price but not deliver a professional service. Because that is what this is: service (or lack thereof). Bugs happen, but quality of service is how you deal with those. 

I would not use words as pissed off, or others like this, but: I you want to use a software for professional work, for earning money, for making jobs, for every day flawless use, then I been disappointed plenty of times with Affinity Photo and Designer. I am using Designer from the early beginning, and yes ....... there been many many bugs over the years, some of them really frustrating and annoying. Bug fixing (this is my opinion) never been on priority list number one for Affinity products, as new features started to show up, but bugs remained. In such moments I been ....sed off, and this is also reason why I started this thread.
My idea: Fix any bugs that got reported, all of them, so no bugs are around anymore (will not happen, but most bugs fixed would be great) , ..... then you may work on new features. And bring these new features .......... without adding new bugs! Sometimes I ask myself: Who it testing this software, are they really "working" with it, or just playing around?
Yes, I love Designer, ..... Photo not so much (I find it pretty overloaded, and no option to reduce the options, so you have to search all the time, if you do not use every day) ...... but I hat the bugs!

why there is no way of making easy default or sticky settings in Affinity Photo? Choosing the same options over and over again is so boring and time eating and unnecessary, for example crop ratio ........  each photo choosing again, or image size, bicubic .......  again and again. Sorry guys, but there is so often the comparison to Photoshop, and how professional Affinity Photo is working, but I am not satisfied with these points, and there is more of such important options, that are stealing time. Getting more gimmicks on new updates, funny things, yes, but why not fixing these important things first, that make an app work proper and fast. These settings, as the ratio and the image size rendering (just as examples that got used very often, permanently  by most users) , they don´t even stay while working on the same photo. That is really disappointing, cause this is basics for a good working app! And the app is not brandnew anymore!

Just keep going with the pencil .........  is the only way to go, if I decide to work with the pencil. Yes, I can improvise, but, Affinity or Serif should just make this work!
As long as I been working with Designer on mac, since the first days as I was an early user, I had double text in menus, when entering values, as stroke width, ....... now with the latest update this irritating problem is gone. So this been a bug for 5 years. And this is the one thing I do not like with Affinity apps, more and more new features, but some bugs just remain and remain. This is frustrating for long time users, and when new bugs show up with new updates, ........  no words for this. 
But: Yes I also love the apps! It´s a bit like love and hate relationship! 

Think I found the trick .......  check the scroll box in settings!       :-)

Yes, that is the problem, and one may get the impression, the app is not build for daily working needs. There is often days, I have to work on some dozens of photos. Color, lighting, clarity, ...... but also cropping, and size changing. I also work with Keyboard Maestro on my mac, to improve my working speed, and on Photoshop I was able to get all things done by just some clicks with shortcuts. That is not possible with Affinity photo for most actions, where settings have to be the same as being used before. As the nonsense and often useless standard settings come back at once after each use and change. So I have to make all these settings dozens of times again and again, waste of time, and more and more this makes me angry about the app, so I do not want to use it anymore for these works. Productivity should be the first and most important point for the Affinity crew, ..... or as being said here before: The goal is not satisfying workers with this product, the goal is selling the app as much as possible, new options coming, but the old problems since the start of the app remain untouched the same. 
 
Or lets say it with some music, Status Quo: Again, again, again, again, .........     :-)
