Sunset got a reaction from Maijuline in Introduce Yourself
Thanks for the welcome, Andy!
If you're sitting comfortably.....the MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display. It had to be a laptop because my workhorse souped up desktop with decent sized monitor will still be my office computer, and I couldn't work with a smaller screen.
And it's going to have to pay for itself, that's my motivation. I have a niece who designs and sells to Liberty, etc etc, so I have something to work towards (and we'll be able to discuss Macs, now). Also, I'll never give up CraftArtist but I'm well into the stage where I want to be working with my own original designs (aspirations for the DT shop??).
Virginia Woolf famously said 'a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction' - this is what I've bought, a room of my own to create graphics. Can you tell that I'm excited :D :D :D ?
Thanks for the link - bookmarked :)

Sunset got a reaction from DC9V in Introduce Yourself
Hi, I'm Hilary Hartigan, AKA sunset. I always said that when I retired I would buy a new (electric) piano. Yesterday hubby asked me which would I prefer, a piano or a Mac. Let's just say that the Mac will arrive in the next few days :) And, after working my way through Windows 3.1 to Windows 8.1. I am going to be a complete novice with the Mac.
I'm a total fan of things Serif but I really need something new as 'I'm all scrapped out' (a CraftArtist expression) and I don't want to get left behind on a Windows-Shelf. This looks different and exciting and fresh. By trade I'm a part time lecturer (computing out in the community), a self employed publisher and designer (but looking to change tack), a family history researcher and recorder (nearly finished) and a lover of logic and order. I have a head overflowing with ideas :D and tons of ambitions :D . I hope that I can make a useful contribution :)

I like the idea of experimentation, like exploration, it can take us to new levels of achievement and awe inspiring places.

Sunset reacted to v_kyr in Reusing wild animal textures in AD
Needed a few wild animal textures for AD, so I made some custom styles for this purpose.

Sunset got a reaction from NilsFinken in Headlines with Attitude - Nesting AD
Haven't posted here for a long while, but enjoyed doing some nesting this morning with a picture I took a while back of Paris Mountain in Anglesey. I used Designer for the page including fading out the background photo. Quick and easy.

You have no idea how many times I had to squint at your version until I could see the difference!
Very good, Alfred :D

Sunset got a reaction from LilleG in Affinity Designer Workbook
HINT: I can make a space on one of my bookshelves to line up three of these books in due course, Designer, Photo, Publisher................ :D

Sunset got a reaction from LilleG in Affinity Designer Workbook
Good Point!
It won't be my used book, though, I've just just been browsing through the tutorials/projects and I am amazed at the detail and depth and the care that has gone into this. :)

Sunset got a reaction from LilleG in Affinity Designer Workbook
Have to love insomnia, working my way through the Affinity Designer Workbook, picking up little things that I hadn't noticed before and finally understanding the purpose of artboards! I've designed three colourways of the logo for my new imaginary company and I am waiting for my imaginary client to choose one and pay me some imaginary money. Imagine is the key word with this new book, it banishes the 'white page" syndrome and feeds my imagination.

Sunset got a reaction from PeanutsA in Affinity Designer Workbook
That's very kind of you to look! However, the Workbook would change pages all by itself too often, so I might have to settle for the one I have - the pegs come forwards, not sideways, to accommodate those v-e-r-y chunky coffee table books! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fellowes-Booklift-Copy-Holder-Silver/dp/B00006IC4E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481476357&sr=8-1&keywords=book+stand+fellowes

I've ordered the book and am now wondering if I should order a coffee table from Ikea for it to go on - and see if they arrive together as Yorkshire is in its own universe :D

Sunset reacted to Butler To Cats in Affinity for Windows Freebies
Extract all the files from the 3 zip files, daub-essentials.zip, the-box-set.zip, and grade-ui-kit.zip
On recent versions of Windows you should be able to double-click on the zip files and then copy and paste all the folders and files into another folder on your computer.
Then, as per Alfred's instructions, import the brush files and palette files - some of the files (.afbrushes, .afpalette, afassets files) will be in sub-folders if you copied everything.
To show the Assets panel, as per Madame's instructions View menu, Studio, Assets, then import the .afassets files.

Sunset reacted to Alfred in Affinity for Windows Freebies
I think it works the same way. On my Windows installation, ticking Assets on the 'View > Studio' submenu displays the Assets panel, and I can then click on the menu icon in the top right-hand corner of that panel and choose 'Import Assets...' to browse to the Grade UI Basic Elements and the DAUB Papers assets (*.afassets) file. The palettes and brushes have to be imported separately (via the Swatches panel and the Brushes panel, respectively).
The Grade UI sheets are Designer files (*.afdesign) which you just open as usual.

Sunset got a reaction from Mediafuel in The Whittler
I have been following the workbook tutorial for The Whittler - not completed, there are other demands on my time - but I've enjoyed going through the processes, especially using the vector and raster brushes to create texture on the tree. I completed the robot with simple linear gradients for now, the rest can follow another day. This is my interim take on The Whittler and, whilst it is capable of greater finesse in the future, I am happy with it at this stage.

Sunset reacted to GMPhotography in Summer Sunset at a nearby creek.
I discovered some issues with this photo the other day so decided to try and redo it and fix it using Affinity Photo. I gotta say, I love the tools Affinity offers for masking out different parts of different photos when stitching panoramas. I had some camera motion blur in the trees in the first version that was caused by one horizontal series of the 9 tiled shot (3 rows of 3)
Anyway here is the end product.
