I had the idea for this rolling around in the back of my head for a while so I thought I'd give it a try and see what came from it.
I've now got it to the point where I'm not very happy with it.
I've added some shadows where some of the pieces of paper aren't fully stuck down - with a related curve - but it still doesn't quite look real enough to me. There's something missing but I don't know what. I tried to add highlights to the "curls" but they didn't look right.
Each letter is an individual shape with enclosed image and text layers, and the shadows are themselves individual layers, so it's all totally adjustable.
Does anyone have any suggestions for improvements? It's just a silly thing that I've made for my own amusement but I would like to get it looking better. Any ideas anyone? Feel free to get petty.

I think Alex is more likely to have been thinking that 'Pot Love' suggested something to do with opiates!

Anyway, all three compositions are lovely, and the little story that they tell when put together is a bonus.

I think that A_B_C was thinking that the tail to the dragonfly was a taser and that the bird gets brutally shocked.

Joking aside, this was beautifully drawn.

I wanted to use some of the huge collection of digital clipart that I've amassed as a CraftArtist User so, purely for the enjoyment, I made a page with CA then made pages in Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo that used the same clipart elements and the same techniques (transparency was the only one that was created differently and that was easy enough) and to see how the work flow matched. I'm happy with the result. I never intended the three pictures to be precisely the same in any way so there are lots of subtle differences and they are immaterial to me, but I do like the little story that the three pictures tell, and how easy it is to use Designer to make just about anything.

Very well done. Seeing the comparison of the different pieces made with different programs shows that you are quite familiar with Serif's tools. You should have no trouble mastering Publisher when it releases I bet.

I'm loving the symbols. The symmetry is extremely useful and working with the objects in a symbol is easy. My snowflake is based on a 24 point star and 1 symbol duplicated onto every other point, making it simple to create a snowflake with the pen tool. The symmetry is brilliant and works with everything I've thrown at it from quick shapes and brushwork to things I'd painted in pixels - though the program did crash constantly when I tried to move a circular design that was probably a very large file size because of all the jpg images in it. No work was lost, though, it was all recovered.

Sunset reacted to Hokusai in The Siren
Just wanted to share my take on what was originally a Hokusai ukiyo-e print (Hokusai Katsushika, 1760 - 1849, not me). I'm sorry I can remember the original name of this print but I thought Siren was a good name for it (but keep in mind that is the name of my version and not the actual name of the print that mine is based on). I saw it somewhere on my travels and I snapped a shot of it but the print was not in very good shape so I decided to recreate it using Designer. While Hokusai is most famous for his "Great Wave at Kanagawa" he made thousands of prints and there are many that are just as incredible as the "Great Wave".

Thank you for taking the time to look at my work,
    Hokusai (not Katsushika)

Hi, I'm Hilary Hartigan, AKA sunset. I always said that when I retired I would buy a new (electric) piano. Yesterday hubby asked me which would I prefer, a piano or a Mac. Let's just say that the Mac will arrive in the next few days :) And, after working my way through Windows 3.1 to Windows 8.1.  I am going to be a complete novice with the Mac.

I'm a total fan of things Serif but I really need something new as 'I'm all scrapped out' (a CraftArtist expression) and I don't want to get left behind on a Windows-Shelf. This looks different and exciting and fresh. By trade I'm a part time lecturer (computing out in the community), a self employed publisher and designer (but looking to change tack), a family history researcher and recorder (nearly finished) and a lover of logic and order. I have a head overflowing with ideas  :D and tons of ambitions  :D . I hope that I can make a useful contribution  :)

Excellent! A lot of patience, time, detail, skill and I'm with you completely about the mouse, I rarely use anything else, my mouse and I are good buddies.  Love it to bits. I don't come here often, either, but seeing this has made my visit worthwhile!

I've been posting on the forum here since Designer was released in 2014 but I've never posted anything of my own in the "Share your work". I'm always impressed by what others post and it inspired me to post something of my own. I chose this picture because it was so complex and it was overwhelming the amount of objects that I had to draw but I used it as a test to see how far Designer has come and I have to say that it has come a long ways since it was first released. Designer never quit or locked up on me and it performed beyond my expectations, especially on a project with so many boolean operations. I took an image that was done originally by the amazingly talented Gustave Doré and redid it completely in vectors using Designer. I did everything "by hand" as they say, I didn't use any kind of vectorizer as I feel that the results are never good enough. I also did the whole thing with a mouse, no Wacom. Somethings had to be created from scratch as the original was damaged in places so there are actually many differences between my version and the original but I think I've been able to maintain the spirit of the original. I've included some screenshots of the outlines to give you an idea of how many different objects there are. I'd like to give a giant "Thanks!" to MattP and the other developers for all their hard work. I'm especially thankful to them for adding a "Hide/Show All" command into Designer. It helped me greatly with this picture and I look forward to seeing what they will think of next.

    Thanks for letting me share.

    Winter Snow Scene.

    Made in Affinity Photo.
I used just 3 images to produce this image.
the foregrounstarted off as green grass and using blend modes, I managed to turn the grass white, with added grunge brush to make the light covering of snow.
The lamp was a PNG image ready to go, with additional duplicate layers to add the snow to the side and shadow fall. Additional pixel layers to add glow to the lamp.
Great thanks to Pedro for the fantastic snow brushes. The snow was done over 4 pixel layers with various size brushes and gaussian blur and motion blur to imitate snow fall.

Thanks to Pedro Soares for the Snow brushes. http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/branca-leve-e-fria/

I an a happy cat! I found the cat tool for my Mac tonight and somehow or other I created Sunset's cat!

I also had some fun with Affinity Photo removing a street lamp, no waiting signs, graffiti and people from a street scene (no work of art, there are rough edges, it's a practice piece), then used the clarity and a blend mode. Looking forward to giving those family history photos a bit of edge now
