  1. Hi, I see what you mean, but imagine that I do both shoes, a dress and a hat and make a fashion collage. Then next week I start a new document, thinking of doing something dark and scary with a city alley and I think - that shoe I did would be great sitting by itself on top of a dustbin lid - I can export it from my fashion collage, but how do I get it onto my dustbin? :D :D :D That's where I"m thinking that I might be able to do it when the next program comes out.... .......... :)
  2. Thank you for that, I shall see what I can make of it. I have a feeling that this might be easier in the next phase, when the photography program is available . What I want to do is not dissimilar to creating a collage of images which will remain editable - or even to create an image in Affinity Designer which has several elements and then re-use one or more of those elements on a new, different, image. We shall see how it goes :)
  3. I have a question - I like to construct individual items, like the shoe, which I will then incorporate in a design later. Exporting as slices is easy, I've got that, but how do I bring the exported image back into a new design - I can't find an import?
  4. Yay, it's a girl thing - pretty shoes. I like to draw things like these as if they are being worn but without the wearer, so you can't see the other side of the shoe, I like the effect.
  5. Very nice work. I understand the decisions of what to keep and what to eliminate! Lovely.
  6. Playing catch up - a lovely set of eejits, all with different personalities. Love 'em all :)
  7. Sadly, I am a perfectionist and that is why this is not perfect - I would work on it for far too long. I'm still learning, using the different brushes, opacities, layers, all sorts of things, and enjoying it all. I hope you like Forest Dweller :)
  8. It depends on the effect that you like. The pen tool is good for the outlines of your lovely dragons. It is precise and it is easy to control. I want to be able to draw pictures, just like I draw with a real pencil. So I use the pencil and I sketch, I use it to make lots of light and dark marks on the paper, I do not want it to be precise. Then I use the brushes (I think the third brush, a solid brush is good for this) and reduce the opacity to about 15% or even less, to add colour. Again, I do not want to be precise. This is how I made the face in "Face Time" in "Share Your Work". When I tried painting "Formby Sunset" I used lots of different brushes because I am learning, like you, how to use them. Again, I did not need to be precise all of the time. But if I create a dragon, like you, I would use the pen and I would fill the shapes with colour, too.
  9. How strange you should mention that - I commented the same to my husband and daughter as we walked past their windows this afternoon. More specifically, I said that the windows (black white and gold jewel cuts) made me think of skeuomorphic, and as soon as wen entered, the models were on a plinth made, beautifully, of red triangles looking like shaded, transparent, red shards. I was impressed :)
  10. Just to add my view, as I've come to this with new eyes, I really like the cloud, it immediately made me shiver as I felt the cold of that mist. The art appeals to me.
  11. I really, really like this :) the colours and texture, as well as the drawing, are great.
  12. I think your method works well, whether you have the outline at the back or the front is up to you and the nature of the outline, I like working this way, it's easy to change things as you go. Very nice work :)
  13. It is a nice style, I like the splash of red, too, which 'fixes' it.
  14. Thank you, Peter :) I so much wanted to try Affinity as soon as I heard of it, that hubby volunteered (is that the right word) to buy me a Mac. OK, I'm probably driving some poor guys at Affinity bats with my attempt to 'forget' windows and become a Mac user, but now I nearly love my Mac as much as I love Affinity :) I've always been a doodler and this is the first time that I've been able to doodle digitally and it's brill! Thanks for the encouragement! (And I still use DP, too :) )
  15. This is so addictive. A program where you can actually learn as you work. Intuitive. Just playing around with pencil and brushes, discovering things as I go. This face is all vector work. And no problems with the Finder, either; the update and restart have made a noticeable difference, so perhaps my Yosemite glitches are now fixed :) face 1.afdesign
  16. Phew, so am I. The second restart seems to have settled everything. I've had nothing but issues with Yosemite, no Mac for a week until it suddenly started working again, couldn't even log on. Had it all checked at the Apple shop. So this looks like something that I tried just before the update and the update might have fixed it but, as with my previous update experience, it took a while to bed in. Thank you so much, guys, for all your help. I know a lot more about Macs now. (And I love Affinity)
  17. SORTED. I've tried lots of variations and I can open any document in any folder, no error messages, no problems. I am wondering, though, this afternoon, if I've occasionally hit "done" instead of "open"? I'm not aware that I might have been doing that, but I suddenly realised that I'm used to seeing cancel and open in Windows - and in some of the Mac boxes, too - and some of the terminology on the Mac does take a bit of getting used to. The first windows machine I used was a 356 (?), that's a long time on Windows, bat 1990.
  18. WORKING - hold this space, but I restarted my computer (again)..........
  19. I can email it if it's clearer; Command1 didn't work for me, so I stretched the box instead. You guys are very patient whilst I learn the Mac.
  20. No error message at all when, it just stays as a black workspace.
  21. Interesting, just tried to open that original file, Sunset at Formby, which is still in the Documents (but not in any folder within Documents) and that doesn't open with Open .
