    Hi,

Not sure I have seen this feature request anywhere but as a designer, I heavily use this feature.

I know you can create styles but it's not the same feature and not as fast as copy/paste.

You don't want to save all the FX you create. :)

    Thanks !

    1. This is a book about a specific version of a software which means it will be outdated. Therefor, trees are dead for nothing. Just ecologic waste. I never buy any books about IT anymore. I buy ebooks or services like safari bookshelf.

    2. This is the era of tablets and digitals. Only publishing a book in paper is just sending the wrong signal to your customers. You look like old school thinker / grumpy grandpa "life was better before". Not very good when you want to sell software and get trust about the future.

    3. Whether you like it or not, even in physical format only, soon or late, somebody will scan it and create a PDF for free. There are even services to do it for you now. So better sell the ebooks yourself and grab some money. Let ppl supports you.

    4. This book is huge and we are in a global world now. I am currently living outside my country since years. All my books are now 100% digital which allows me to move anywhere without double thinking about buying a book. Right now, I would clearly not purchase a paper book of this size knowing I would have to handle it when I move back. Too heavy.

Not providing the ebooks won't change it will be available as a free leak-link. Putting your head in the sand do not change reality.

Worst, not being able to get this book easily just strengthen their competitors: most sketch users are impressed when I show them the marketing about AD. Now try to do what they show with available resources outside the book. Mostly impossible or you will have to waste hours to learn bit by bit here and there on forums / links / articles. So they stick to what they know: Sketch. Sales lost.

Actually, The WorkBook should be their weapon to get more market share, instead they have locked themselves into a niche. Affinity is a challenger here, it's not the guy already in place. I think they should increase the price of AD by $10 ou $20 and include the ebook with it. That way, the mass effect that every licence sold is purchasing the book will covers the difference in price and you have more chance to convert ppl to your product. Affininty would still be cheaper than their competitor but would give you the knowledge to outperform others from day 1.

Heck, they could even get outside the Mac App Store and get 30% of their money back to fund the book.

    Big missed opportunity.

At the moment, I'm duplicating a LOT of layers and for the sake of alignment perfection, I'm keeping a layer that's only purpose to help with alignment while I duplicate. The problem is then removing this layer after all the duplicates are created. I named it 'DELETE' so I could easily go back and delete it after I'm done duplicating as it creates unnecessary overlaps.

What would be awesome in a future version is the ability to search within the Layers panel so I could manipulate (delete in this case). Photoshop has this functionality and it's awesome.

    Please consider adding it soon!

    Hi,

Some iOS 10 assets are provided by Affinity Designer but they are incomplete, using an outdated Font (SF UI Text instead of SF Pro) and not providing upcoming OSes like iOS 11. Right now, Apple provides all the latest designs here:
    https://developer.apple.com/design/resources/

However, they are providing it for Sketch, Adobe PS or Adobe XD. While Affinity Designer is able to open the PSD files (with some warnings), it is useless for any UI work as it's loading pixel layers instead of vector layers. So in order to compete with existing UI design tools, Affinity Designer should either be able to import PSD documents provided by Apple correctly or provide it's own full and up-to-date UIKit assets.

This is limiting the use of Affinity Designer a lot for mobile designers as recreating all standard widgets is time consuming and making the price of Affinity Designer non competitive (a few hours to create the missing UI elements * hourly rates = a lot more than buying Sketch). I bet that Android designers would want full material assets too.

Please consider making Affinity Designer more competitive for the UI Design market.

    Cheers

PS: another alternative would be to request Apple to add the affinity designer file format to the list provided. Good luck with that. But you won some ADA, so may be they would listen

The developers already had such a prototyping or viewer application up and running, but they were not entirely happy with the outcome of their efforts. However, they said there will be a prototyping application in the future:

And as soon as Affinity Designer for the iPad arrives, you will have the option of creating and modifying .afdesign files on your iPad. Hope that helps …

In fairness, Linux has been "the future" for years - but it still isn't converting many people.  Mainly because most flavours of it have always been so impenetrable for anyone that is not a tech geek.  I think we can be sure that OSX is going to be around a while yet - while it may be Unix under the hood, the user experience is so much better.

I think it takes protagonists to move forward. They keep the honest folk honest ;^) Yep, the generated noise can sometimes be, or seem, disconcerting. But the forum does give them a voice whether the content or its tone is wanted or not.

Don't like what a particular poster writes? Ignore them (either manually or via the forum software). I don't generally ignore them by either method—but then, I suspect I often enough fall into the same camp as Oval and others. I stopped reporting bugs long ago (although I think I slipped up once or twice since then) because of an issue here. But that incident won't prevent me from voicing my displeasure or point out software and/or personnel faults.

And I will still write things like "AD isn't ready for prime-time." Why? Because while it is getting better (with a bit of regression here and there) with each beta, I do not believe it is there. As Matt pointed out, AD is capable of stunning work in the right hands. I work in print production, not illustration. The main and most important things for me are work-flow speed and output. If I have issues outputting to PDF then AD is a non sequitur. PDF output is getting better. Better doesn't mean I cannot/do not have issues. Same with expanding strokes. I have to expand strokes to shapes frequently. And while the current 1.6 beta is doing better (far better, really), it is not an assured result. I need assured results.

There are simply things that take way too much time in AD. Export a complicated and larger PDF. I did with one of the files another user here had trouble with exporting. Takes over 30 minutes to export. In that time, I rebuilt it in another application, exported it, went and made coffee and AD still wasn't finished yet. So while AD is capable of professional work and somewhat output, that is completely unacceptable in a production environment.

ronnyb's current post came in as I was writing this tripe. The statement was made concerning the $50 price? Almost as if we all should accept the current state of things because it's so inexpensive and that alone should be cause to cut the developers slack. Uh, no. Serif set the price, it's their bed and they need to live with that. I would have paid more. I believe in Serif as a company. They believe in me as one of their customers (how else can I explain they haven't thrown me out of here yet?).

Actually even with snapping turned off, the "whole pixel" move and alignment do not work correctly.

If an object is at 36.1pt, it will move by 0.5pt and not check if the object was pixel aligned in the first place.
Basically the code supposed to align objects is just doing +-0.5pt when you check the options. Not smart at all.

Dams reacted to WaveF in Perfect pixel-align bounds
Pixel alignment is not perfect in Affinity Designer, in fact non pixel align situation is VERY EASY to happen.

When shapes align to TEXT object or, a integer position&size shape with a little ROTATION, it's position no longer integer.

I think AD should learn from Fireworks pixel alignment design, no matter cursor position, text/shape geometry, once user start to draw, all  objects' bounds should be treated as integer in pixel alignment mode.

Now we can turn off "snap to object bounding boxes" to make this happen, but it also make AD become useless, I think what we need is  "snap to pixel-align bounding boxes",

It's pretty obvious that the tools which will provide automation will destroy the traditional ones. I already discussed how not having the eBooks version of the Design Workbook was a mistake in another thread today but if AD miss that boat, I will clearly switch to Sketch because nothing can beat automation productivity.

Seems your argument is self defeating. You say the book will be outdated. But,  some one will digitize it  and others d-load a 400+ page document that will be outdated, as if network connection is free.  Repeat. Repeat.

This makes some sense, but are you sure that is enough to compensate the people who made the content? They not only know how to use the 'ware, but obviously have lots of previous practice. It may seem silly, but actually having a physical item that is intact and has one's name on the credit is remarkably valuable.
