I gues you´re talking about the Mac version, if so; make right-click on the toolbar to get access to the Customize Toolbar.. feature (macOS wide available) and edit accordingly.

I believe we´re in sync.

Nothing against auto-vectorizing and Inkscape is really good at it - BUT nothing beats manually traced vector graphics. If you´re not in a hurry it´s time to learn some basic vector drawing skills you can profit on future projects. Affinity team and users have a lengthy list of video tutorials for beginners&starters in the forum section.

Yes - drag the transform thingy to the mirror axis - cmd+J - flip horizontally - move over till transform point meet mirror plane - no big deal.
I wonder why not at least the 9-point-set at the transform panel have any effect either.

While you need to constraint the anchor point horizontally to the guide snapping with shift key - still hold shift key down - then transform.
-
The same - no tool switching as I said.

@PixelPest yeah I was aware of that procedure however I don't see it being practical in the situation I posted above.
Are you sure?

Actually you don´t need to switch tools; just click&drag till the size gets highlighted:

There is a simpler way to do this in Affinity, but it still involves a few steps:
- If the object to be divided has not been converted to a curve, do that first.
- Draw a straight line through the object, as you would in Inkscape.
- Lock the line (optional but it simplifies things a bit).
- With the appropriate snapping options enabled, select the object & with the Node tool add a pair of nodes at the two intersections of the line & the path of the object.
- Select these two new nodes & from the Context toolbar, select the "Break Curve" action.
- Delete or hide the line.
I am too lazy to figure out ATM which snapping options are essential to insure that the two new added nodes snap to the intersections, so I usually just enable all of them.

The attached Divide with line.afdesign has the history with the last few steps saved with it so you can see how it works. Using this method the line can be at any angle.
You´re funny aren´t you?
This is even in AD too much effort for such simple cut - and just owed by missing a basic knife tool.
Actually it´s.
1. Draw your shape
2. add a straight line as cutting guide
3. Snapping set to: Align to nodes of selected curves (1. icon)
4. when shape selected follow curve with node-tool till it become highlighted at the "crossing"; click and second click on the other side
5. select both new points - then it´s just "break curve" followed by 6. "Close Curve" - done - phew!

Coming from Inkscape this is quite an amount of steps:

One can draw a selection on an image layer
For what reason? Just asking.

Pretty sure it´s an image layer. Rasterise before proceed. Another one fallen into this trap I guess.

Btw, Inkscape seems to do the exact same thing except it's even less accurate (it's clearly visible at less than 10000% zoom I believe)
Inkscape has adjustable Numeric precision accessible.

It depends on the size. If you put it relatively on Din A1 the aberration will not this noticeable.

I don´t have Word. The shown output is questionable me thinks.
White border way too large:

In Inkscape for instance:

Not sure if this will help then:

How to do?
Did you ever draw something in a vector.app?
I dare not say how trivial that is:

Oh and your signboards are shearing:

Draw in front view - than click "Fit to Plane" and if needed do "Edit in Plane".

We have isometric projection&snapping:

I've trie doverlapping points (Doesnt snap), joining points (just adds an extra line between points and doesnt 'join' them entirely).
Enable Snapping, drag point to point, click Add=1 curve
BUT whatever you do you will have 2 overlapping points at the closings:

Did you call for the New Live filter layer->Noise->Denoise?

Ganz ehrlich? Du machst es Dir irgendwie zu kompliziert:

Ich verstehe das Problem nicht oder ich mache es mir zu einfach:

Aside from adjusting the Size Variants: at the certain brush you need to enable a "Pressure profile" at the stroke dialog:
