Hi, Thank you all for your input. I've managed to isolate the issue. It turns out that I had the feather size too large for the freehand selections I was attempting. I just stumbled across it, while going through different settings one by one to see if they had any impact. Stupid mistake I suppose, but one I won't make again! I appreciate the suggestions received. Paul

Thanks A_B_C, yep, definitely have that selected. Very strange. I'll keep going through different settings to see if I can find it and post the solution (me being optimistic!!) here when located, unless someone else has experienced this and knows a simple answer. Thanks again.

Thanks MEB. I just looked, and Show Pixel Selection was ticked. I un-ticked it (no change in behaviour), re-ticked it and still no change.

Thanks very much. Unfortunately I have the New (and tried Add), and no difference. Also the clone/impaint etc. are not working, which makes me think it is something I've inadvertently done on how the changes are applying to the single layer.

Hi, I've tried searching for this problem in the forums but without success. I seem to have got Affinity Photo into a strange mode. I'm working on a single layer, and attempting to create a freehand selection for inpainting. When I select the area, I see the dotted border build up, but as soon as I finish it, the border disappears (preventing me from selecting the inpaint option). I also get the same when using the inpainting tool (I don't see the tool as I use it). It is almost as though none of the tools are working on the single layer that I have, but I have no idea what I did. This was working earlier today. Any thoughts or pointers would be much appreciated. I assume it is something very simple. Thanks. Paul
