People seem to get so pissed off when you criticize their favourite app. But all I’m asking for is a simple bit of information placed at the beginning of each help file. E.G., “Saturation: the saturation level is controlled by a slider than you will find here (arrow highlights the app). This is how it’s done in most other applications I see. I was able to find the saturation slider but only after 5-6 Youtube videos, which never seemed get around to this rather important fact.
But don’t take it all personally. It’s a fine application. I’ll keep using it and eventually I’ll have watched every Youtube video they have and have learned the location of most sliders and buttons.

I love having a real alternative to Photoshop but here's one major beef: your "help" file never tells me what I need to know. I wanted to know how to reduce the saturation in an image. That's all. Do you think I could find out where the tool, filter, slider, button, gizmo or whatever actually is? No!
I remember this from Designer. Never could find anything. Had to hunt and peck and slowly gave up and went back to Illustrator.
It's appalling that the builders of what looks like a fine graphic design tool should be so ignorant of their newer customers needs. I've used Photoshop since it came out. I know about digital images. I don't want a course and I don't want a long-winded tutorial. I want a simple step-by-step procedure right up there at the front that says: Here's the Saturation Tool. Select the image or part of the image and move the slider left, to decrease saturation or right to increase it.
Is that so hard? What ever happened to common sense? I switched to Affinity from Adobe partly because of cost. I'm still glad I did but I don't want to watch a long-winded tutorial with some bore blathering on about everything they don't want to know before finally, incidentally, revealing what I really want to know: where the button is.

The bug might be in some component of Sonoma itself, so in that case it would be up to Apple to fix it, not Serif.

There is nothing pointless about that or anyone else's advice regarding the inadvisability of using a beta OS version together with an Affinity (or any other) app that has not been tested with that OS version if you want to avoid problems like app crashes.

Hi @OSea and welcome to the forums,
Does View > Reset Rotation not work for you?
Canvas rotation is not currently recorded in the History panel because these aren't edits to the document itself, just your visual perspective, which makes perfect sense, though there has been mention of making this a feature request...

@dre. I have previously answered, and provided more than a reasonable amount of information regarding this issue in the separate thread you have posted in, linked below.
Users in this thread are not 'trolling' you by providing concise, correct information regarding the Affinity apps and integration with the OS File system. These are other Affinity users who are being kind enough to try and explain this further to you, even after receiving an official response from a moderator.
This is not the first time you have accused users of 'trolling' here on the Affinity forums, and to be rather frank with you I do not believe you completely understand the meaning or context of this word, in this regard. This is not 'trolling', simply because you do not like or agree with the responses being given.
I am locking this thread from further replies, as the question has been answered both here and in the second thread linked above. If there is new information to be provided, please do so in the original thread.

"Baseless Demands"? If something doesn't work at all in Windows it'd be baseless. If Corel and others can work with Microsoft then so can Serif. Your statement that CorelDraw "code is way different than what Serif used" (sic) is not what Serif state. Serif state that Corel and Microsoft worked together to get .CDR files to work.
Choosing not to deal with such a fundamental issue with the operating system is incredibly small minded. It's also clear that these forums are not the place to get this issue resolved. Fanboy/girls and Trolls don't help anyone.  It's clear that Serif could make this work or they could at least be proactive rather than moaning that it's "Microsoft's problem not ours". It's the apathy and laissez faire attitude towards such a fundamental issue that's been there for more than 2 years that is most irksome. It's clear that Serif can't be bothered and that's not OK (despite the Fanboys arguing otherwise). If Serif did care then they'd complain to Microsoft and/or the EU/US trade bodies if MS refused to respond. Complaining to the EU/US trade bodies is 100% free to them (despite those who claim to know better). That's why they (EU/US monopoly complaint bodies) are there and fine companies like Microsoft if they behave in an anti-competitive manner. Plenty of other software companies have complained (and won) for far less. Serif complains that Corel and Microsoft hatched a plan to get CDR files to work but leave it at that? It's that limp-wristed response to this issue that offends me the  most. It's been 2+ years and someone at Serif should take ownership and act.

    @dre.
Here's a couple of screenshots of AP. Do you see the difference? It's as plain as day. Affinity apps use File Explorer for the File>Open dialogs. It uses it's own UI for the Recent dialogs. There's no similarity, none. Just like having 2 separate apps.
Serif has already stated that they have went as far as they can on their side to get the thumbnails viewable, however it's up to MS to do their part. You keep saying Serif can, or should. Serif said no they can't, so that's the final word, not your baseless demands. It does not matter if Coreldraw can, their code is way different than what Serif used for the Affinity apps.

Since it looks like you are opening work files directly on OneDrive, keep in mind that Serif has repeatedly recommended here on the forum (always in connection with the problem of damaged and lost files) to work on local drives, and to the cloud saves only for backup or file sharing.

I think any argument is futile here. I don't know if it's a language problem or a problem with understanding the meaning of the operating system dialogs, but unfortunately some of the information mentioned here many times remains completely unanswered, so the discussion keeps going round and round.

I am unclear as to what your point is? I have shown that my "recent" files show their thumbnail. What I have said is that Serif can use the same functionality for "open" so I can see the thumbnails of the other files that I may have worked on previously (or on another machine). All my files are stored LOCALLY and in the CLOUD

You're only reading and accepting what would serve you. It's been posted, the Recent aspect of AP, is part of the application. The Open dialog is not, it is the OS explorer or finder, whichever platform is being used. It's just that simple!! Windows (MS) for unknown reason(s) is not seeing the thumbnails, once Onedrive seizes it.
You think that Serif really wants to spend the tremendous amount of money, a lawsuit against MS would bring? Really? Then why have they not? I really don't think they can justify that expense to satisfy you, as you seem to be about the only one complaining.

When using Recent, your Affinity application is drawing the window, and providing all its content. That is why the thumbnails work there.
On the other hand, when using Open, File Explorer is drawing the window, and providing all its content, in conjunction with OneDrive. If File Explorer and OneDrive don't try to display the thumbnail, it won't be displayed.

Again with the trolling??? If you don't have anything positive to say, please move on!
Notwithstanding your ridiculous statements, Serif operates in both the EU and US and can complain about anti-competitive behaviour by a Monopoly. The EU love taking on Microsoft when they act in such a way.

It makes no difference if I change the size/view of the directory, they still appear as blue and pink icons, NOT as a file preview. I'm not the only person to have encountered this. It's been an issue with files backed up to OneDrive since V1. If COREL can get it to work with CorelDraw files then there is no excuse for Affinity not getting it to work with Designer/Photo etc.
Affinity tried to blame Microsoft in the 2021 posts (I forgot I had replied to one of those).
TWO+ years have passed, this is just laziness on the part of Affinity.

As far as I can see, the subject is standing in front of a simple painted rectangle (maybe a wall or something).
Can you not just use the Rectangle Tool, create a rectangle, and then set the Fill of the rectangle to the same colour as the background in the example image?
As thomaso has shown above, you seem to be keep asking the same questions over and over again.

There is a big difference between selling something like software downloads and selling hardcopy books. The main reason for not having books reprinted, when the initial print run has sold out, is the costs involved. The workbooks are obviously quite expensive, quality books, so the printing costs are going to be high. The more copies you have printed at one time, the cheaper they are. Conversely, if you have a comparatively small number printed, each copy will be even more expensive pro rata. However, the more you have printed, the higher initial cost, and the longer to see a return on your investment. (It may be a long time before you sell enough just to cover the printing costs, let alone make a profit!) With the workbooks there are three different ones (one for each app). Three times the cost! Once you have them printed, they then have to be stored somewhere, and distributed. (More costs involved!) All this is well and good with something you expect to sell well, however, it’s reasonable to think that there will be a comparatively small market for books which are acknowledged to be slightly out of date and possibly now inaccurate with the latest version of the software they cover. Of course, it would be possible to rewrite and update the books, but again the costs would not be insignificant. At the end of the day, if you are considering either a second (updated) edition of a book, or simply printing more copies of an existing book, the initial investment will be high, and the returns may be very slow to come in. Many potential customers will already have bought copies. A lot of people will not want to buy an expensive book with out of date information. Others may not be happy not having the book in their own language (more costs, if you print them in more than one language!)  While it would be possible to save money by reducing the quality of the books, or, maybe, using print on demand, this may also impact on the potential number of sales.
Putting it simply, there is a lot more to it than just saying: “Let’s have another print run, for the small number of people wanting to buy an expensive, out of date, workbook!” Very few company’s are going to be willing to invest a large amount of money having books printed that, at best, take a long time to sell and make a profit, and, at worst, they have them left on their hands and lose money! (Of course, there may well be other reasons why Serif decided not to have more copies of the workbooks printed. Maybe they will at some point. I'm just pointing out, from experience, some of the considerations involved in publishing/printing books generally: It’s not as simple as you may think!)
I’m sure decisions regarding reprinting the workbooks have nothing to do with books being “old fashioned” (which they definitely are not!), neither is it a case of “badly treating” customers!

emmrecs01 reacted to JoesB in What happened to the Affinity workbooks?
That would not be a problem. Not at all. Maybe not everything will be covered correctly, but the main idea will be  easier to understand.
And... everyone is free to decide  to buy or not.
One other problem is that there are no links to he explaining video's of version 1. Or they are well hidden. So, how to study if one has decided not -yet- to go for version 2. Or, that's an old one now, for version 2.1.
I hate that continuous changing of icons, menu's, etc. That costs me so much energy, that I prefer to put into creating fine work.
Reasons enough to not publish a book. Reasons enough to do publish a book. Or keep the video's of the different versions available. Because someone at Serif decides that a book is an oldfashioned way of helping customers.
This discussion is enough for me. I have my ideas about this way of treating costumers. I sure do.
Thank you. Have fun with the Affinity programs.
