Late shipping is not isolated to Serif!  Here in the USA simple Christmas cards I mailed a distance of 650 miles this year took 19 days instead of 2.  Package deliveries promised as “overnight” can still take 4 days even after the Christmas season.  A large office item I ordered from a major corporation (for which I was billed immediately and charged to my credit card) was promised as “overnight” delivery.  The item not only took 11 days, but was first delivered to a complete stranger on the other side of the country (3,000 miles away).  I was promised “free shipping” and then was charged shipping for the replacement.  This international virus-thing has caused problems left and right for everybody.  The workbooks are excellent, and when they do arrive I hope you will enjoy using them as much as I have enjoyed mine.  In the meantime, we can only try to be forgiving for so much that isn’t proceeding as smoothly as in other times before this virus.😷🙂

A'h'h'h'h.  Couldn't resist.  Unfortunately, I don't have the copyright part of the image.  But it was definitely copyrighted!!

Your problem is with the Mac store, so you need to contact them. Affinity cannot help you on this.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, HypoSim.
Yes, Designer is still being developed. All you have to do is look at the release notes for each of the releases, and you will see many major and minor enhancements have been made over that time period. You can find them here.
And the next release, 1.9, is in beta testing now with additional enhancements.
That does not mean that Serif will provide all the functions that everyone is asking for; they have their own plans and their own priorities.

I seem to have made a mistake of switching to Affinity products a while ago with not enough research. Now I keep reading 5 years old forum threads requesting some of the most basic features present in vector graphic software, yet half a decade later still missing from Affinity Designer. Is Gimp with its horrendous UI really the only reasonable choice against Adobe scamming practices?  This is extremely disappointing.

    Hi everyone,
I just thought I would create a post to express my excitement for the upcoming 1.9 updates. 🤯
I have been using the Affinity suite since 2017, and in the past few years I have been using it for my freelance brand identity work. I think the tools are great, yes they do have their limitations and are sometimes frustrating as you have to find workarounds to achieve certain things. However, overall I have enjoyed working with the Affinity suite and things are only getting better. Some great features and fixes are being added with this update.
A big thanks to the team working behind the scenes to keep the Affinity suite moving forward. 🙌

emmrecs01 got a reaction from Kloë_Blackbird in afphoto file thumbnails in explorer window.
Photo DOES provide a thumbnail for Windows (I'm also on 10) and I can see thumbnails of ALL my AFPhoto images without problem.   So I'm not sure why you don't see them, especially when you imply you have tried different icon sizes.  Perhaps try refreshing (F5) the folder where the pictures are stored?

    @werner2021
    Welcome to the Affinity forums.
First can I urge you to change your user name?  Using your email address is to invite spam bots to harvest it and deluge your Inbox with unwanted emails.
The answer to your question is that Affinity Photo is a photo/image editor, not a browser or Digital Asset Manager (DAM).   Serif have said they hope to produce a DAM at some point in the future but until then there are a host of cataloguing apps that can be used, many of which can have APhoto set as the dedicated editor.

Is this program dead? Promises and prospects for too many of the features that I need have disappeared along along with the road map they were printed on.
If development of the program is dead, Serif should be straight with its customers and advise that those who need long-promised improvements ought to seek them elsewhere.
I'd rather bite the bullet and learn how to do what is currently possible in Adobe than wait any longer for this pot to boil.

I often recommend the Affinity applications when I am on forums and Facebook groups.
My recommendations would be tarnished if I was recompensed for doing that. Amazon reviews anyone?
At the Serif price point I’m happy with a warm glow from helping someone else. That is all the payment I need.

emmrecs01 reacted to GarryP in Transfer single licence Mac to PC -- Affinity Photo
Serif’s licensing policy will be integral to their business model as a way of financing the development of three applications over three different operating systems.
When someone purchases a license to use the software on a particular operating system they are helping to fund development of the software on that operating system.
If people stopped purchasing licences to use the software on a particular operating system then Serif would probably stop development on that operating system, but the remaining operating systems could still have software developed for them.
If Serif changed to a different licensing policy then they would probably need to either increase the price of the software quite a lot – to make sure that the three operating systems were sufficiently funded through one single ‘pot’ of cash – or introduce a subscription licensing model.
I think the majority of Affinity users would not want either of those scenarios, so the licensing policy we have now is probably the best we can get for most people.

    Development is not dead.
    1.7 introduced new functions.
1.8 introduced new functions, which you can see listed here.
1.9 will introduce new functions, some of which you can see listed in the current beta announcement (here, as I write this).
Serif may not be implementing what you want, but they are implementing the functions they want to implement, on the schedule and in the order they want to implement them (which is the appropriate way to do it, in my opinion).

Absolutely understand and agree that delivery services are much, MUCH busier with the pandemic and Christmas — but three weeks, in your case four, for a book is just a bit unreasonable, considering that the pre-order process should have helped prepping and that amazon still manages to do prime deliveries reliably within 24 hours.
In any case: I have full understanding of the situation, am just a bit bummed that I had to find a different Christmas gift on super short notice.

Forums are for discussions, sharing, reports and requests, not just for making demands. Serif do listen to their customers, but they can't be expected to do everything that everyone wants immediately it is asked for!

With the best will in the world, I think that expecting Serif to add five new tools "in the next update" and then saying you will go back to Adobe because they haven't promised to do it within a few weeks of your initial post is a little short sighted! Many people have been asking for changes/additions/improvements for a long time. I'm sure Serif/Affinity are doing their best. They have made a lot of progress in all the apps, and the beta releases look like the next public release will have many improvements. It's also worth remembering that the Affinity products have never been intended to be clones of Adobe (or other) products. Often you can obtain the same results without having exactly the same tools as in other software.
Perhaps you should try asking Adobe to add a few more tools, then telling them you'll stop using their products if they don't do it within the month!
