You can revert to a previously purchased copy of Affinity Publisher version 1, but you can’t make a new purchase. As for your purchase of APub2, if you bought it through “a licensed agent” (why?) then the question of a refund needs to be taken up with them. The free trial would have been enough to establish the incompatibility with your version of macOS, and if you’d gone ahead and purchased direct from Serif your purchase would have been covered by a 14-day ‘no quibble’ money back guarantee.
You posted at the weekend to an old unrelated thread about product keys, a thread which no Serif staff are currently following, and it’s only Tuesday morning now. That aside, I don’t understand why you would want to buy the product again if you know it won’t work on your current operating system.

Thanks for the reply. I note that the Samsung S23 ultra is not on the supported list either. This puts Affinity photo a couple of years behind smartphone cameras. In my case, Affinity photo 2 is now redundant. 😠

I think the real issue for you is if you can somehow convince the Affinity developers that the install options you believe should be available actually would be something enough users would want or ever use to justify the work required to include & maintain them.
I think that is a lost cause but I wish you luck if you want to try to do that.

    Hi Walt,
No, all those "support" files are still on C:\.  I decided very early on with my use of Affinity products (version 1) that I didn't feel at all confident about trying to move those files and folders.  But for a number of years now I have always installed the main Program Files for almost every app I have on D:\.  The only ones not installed there are those which do NOT allow the user to choose the install location.  For me, the number of these is very small.

I assume you're referring to the MSIX version?
I have the MSI versions of all three V2 apps and all are installed exactly where I want them to be, in my case, on D:\.

No, software developers do not, nor can they, change the default file binding (a.k.a. default app association) or in any way "override" the binding the OS sets for which app the filetype opens by default. That's just the way it is & always has been for ~30 years or so, which is why no app developer can 'fix' this -- it is something they have absolutely no control over if, when, or how the OS does this.
They are on the list because Affinity Publisher V2 can open these filetypes, so removing them from the list would mean users who did not own Affinity Photo could not open them directly from the File > Open menu. This is something users have asked for since the early days of V1 & many are happy that it is now possible without workarounds. It's the same for RAW files -- as has been mentioned, they can be developed in APub; you just don't get the control over how they are developed like you do in AP.
If it really bothers you that much, you could try making a feature request but you would have to do that not just for the Affinities but also for every other app that offers a list of file types it can open to the OS. Good luck with that.

There will be plenty of virtual ink flowing down the screen before there will be a V3. And who knows, maybe Elon Musk will offer Serif a multi-billion dollar sum so that the Affinity Suite will also run on the infotainment screen of the Tesla Roadster V2. Exclusively, of course.

The most surprising thing about this whole affair is not so much that Kensington Palace issued a photo of a happy, family portrait that had been slightly retouched, but that certain members of the press and media reacted with such a "holier than thou" attitude, condemning the "edited" image; as though they themselves never use photographs that have been heavily altered, including, nowadays, with the assistance of AI.

If you really don’t need what Affinity Photo 2 has to offer, your purchase is covered by a 14-day money back guarantee as long as you bought the app from the Affinity Store (i.e. not the Microsoft Store or the Mac App Store). But it’s a good upgrade!

Do you know this as an absolute fact? I'm not saying you're wrong, but the internet is full of people guessing things and posting them, that's why I'm asking.
And if this is 100% accurate, then Serif has to change the installers so that in any case, if it tells the system what file types they're able to open, to not include file types that are obviously compressed, uncompressed or raw image formats in the Publisher installer. I'm familiar with a lot of the extensions in that list, but not all of them. But of the ones I'm familiar with, several of them are not for the Serif equivalent of Adobe InDesign. At the most, .ai, which should be associated with Designer unless you also have Illustrator (I don't), but the rest are for Photo. So Serif should take a lot of formats off that list in the Designer and Publisher installers, and maybe include them in the Photo one, but I wouldn't include most formats for even Photo, at least not the ones that open with Preview in a snap. Then if the user still wants to associate them with Photo, it's very easy.
One of the main advantages of macOS as opposed to Windows is the ability to use Finder as a photo browsing app, which is fast even on older Macs and you can press the space bar for a quick preview, then if you want to learn more about the file, like DPI, dimensions, metadata, etc, you can click the Open in Preview button. Or you can just double click and open in Preview. So files that open in Preview should not be associated with any of the Affinity apps unless the user wants to, or like I said, offer a choice, a simple step in the installer listing all the file associations and a checkmark for those you want to associate with the app being installed.

AFAIK, it is the OS, not the apps, that sometimes does this, typically when a new app is installed that signals to the OS that it can open open specific file types. IOW, the app does not force the OS to change the default binding of a file type to a particular app; the OS just assumes that because the app is newly installed the user wants that done.

You are certainly entitled to this opinion, though I do respectfully disagree.
However as above I cannot pretend that I am not a human, who is just as flawed and imperfect as any other and therefore may make mistakes.
I'm sorry if this means that as a moderator I may appear to show biases and selective treatment here on the Forums - as I can assure you this is not something I am intentionally guilty of.
I must admit - I was close to hiding this post from Psenda at the time, as I don't feel it is necessary or particularly fair - and as covered above this is for our moderation team to decide and not other forum users.
I can understand the reasoning behind the post and as there is no 'discussions' area of the forums, users may not know where to raise such concerns - but as I've mentioned above this should be done through the 'Report' functionality of the Forums if any user is concerned with anothers behaviour, and not post this directly in a thread.
I am happy to admit leaving the above post visible was a mistake, and for that I apologise. I will hide this post now.
If I've correctly understand the context of Westerwälders post, I don't believe this is in reference to yourself at all, and equally I don't consider this as a personal attack.
I don't wish to speak on another users behalf, but as far as I can tell this post is not directed at any user here and is an offhand generalised remark.
I specifically hid posts from both yourself and thomaso in this thread, and then explicitly requested that further posts of it's kind are not made - as they aren't relevant to the OPs question if a user has no direct personal experience with V2.
Within this post I asked for further posts not to be centred around hypotheticals, so I feel I have already addressed this, and equally I feel this demonstrates me applying the rules across the board and not selectively. You can find this post linked below -
I do not wish to continue this discussion within this thread, as it is not fair to the OP of the post.
If you wish to further discuss either my posts here, or the moderation of the Affinity Forums then I'd recommend emailing the Affinity address provided previously.

Summing things up, Dan. Double standards and selective treatment.
Discrediting  but not directly a user and his experience or the value of his advice based on an over-interpretation or even misinterpretation of his previous posts and spur-of-the-moment conclusions is fine and doesn't qualify as an offensive behavior.
Like also acusations of discouraging/"warning" new users against Affinity products wchich is not true. I've mentioned many times that I think affinity programs have potential.
    I mean like this bellow↓
If I write about someone that he is a frustrate, but not directly (like bellow↓), will it pass your standards, or will you delete my account.
Cluttering up a thread like @thomaso did, by writing off-topic about APub v2, without even owning V2 and admitting it in signature, is probably not a good idea either. However, this and the above also escaped your notice. I wonder why.
I have nothing more to add Dan.

I believe the context is important here - I cannot speak for other users but your post in that thread was seemingly received negatively by multiple users, as you were essentially criticising another users opinions and feelings, based on their use case of the apps.
You are welcome to disagree (politely, preferably) with other users, and provide criticisms of the Affinity apps - but you cannot criticise other users directly for their opinions, especially when the opinion is related to their usage of the Affinity apps.
Regardless, the thread above is the real issue in my opinion, and the reason for the resulting temporary restrictions on your account. I simply linked to the secondary thread as a further indicator of content that we don't want to see here on the forums - as your post there was also moderated by the Affinity team due to the abusive content.
I suggest being more mindful of the content within this thread above, rather than focussing on the secondary thread. My apologies if including a link to this thread within my post above did not help in explaining the reason behind these restrictions, as I can see how it might not be clear.
My apologies, but I cannot see anyone calling anyone a 'tyrant' in either thread - though perhaps you don't mean this literally.
If any user has an issue with content on the Affinity Forums, we ask that you report the thread to the moderators using the 'Report' tool and we can investigate further, and take action where necessary.
I'm sorry to hear you feel this way - I certainly attempt to apply myself as fairly as possible across the forums, though with hundreds (if not more) of users online at once, posting in multiple languages, it would be remiss to ignore the possibility that any moderation may appear biased.
If you have any issue with our moderation of the Affinity Forums, you can contact our team directly at affinity@serif.com.

Yes. Second. In the first one you linked to, I was called a bully after I made one comment, relevant to the original question, that read as follows:
Hence my harsher reaction afterwards. Yes my fault i should not react that harch.
But calling someone a tyrant after making a comment like that? Isn't this an excessive and irrational reaction?  I leave it without answer. Anybody can judge it by them self.
Don't thank me, because no, I have no understanding of your selective treatment.

I certainly will 'react' to the above.
This is unacceptable behaviour from you as a user, and will not be tolerated here on the Affinity Forums. Personal attacks are not, and will never be allowed here.
This is not the first thread you have been personally involved in that has divulged in this manner, as evidenced here, where moderators had to edit your posts contents.
Please familiarise yourself with the Forum Guidelines before continuing to post on this site. If you continue to derail threads with personal attacks, your forum account will be removed.
I also recommend reading through this post where I have previously outlined that it is not our users job to police who can, or can't post on the forums and who has the 'more valid' opinion. All users are equal, and have the same right to post here as any others.
I do not wish to 'lock' this thread as I believe there are valid conversations occurring between other members, but further posts in the manner of the quoted text above will result in this.
    Thanks for your understanding.

I agree with you. I will say this, there is potential, but it has been squandered for some time by stupid decisions, lots of mistakes and lack of quality improvement.

The number of users on the forum is in no way an indicator of how many people have problems with the program.
Some users don't register on the forum at all even when they face more or less problems with the apps from Serif.
So you can't make assumptions like that.

There have also been a lot of complaints about the performance and stability of versions 1 and 2 from users of high spec computers and up to date graphics drivers, whether they were using msi, msix, exe, so the issue is more about the application itself, the quality of the code behind it , not on the client hardware or driver side.
Many of these users no longer report problems, sometimes even abandoned the forum because the trust and faith that something will change in this matter has evaporated.
