I think we all can understand that you are not happy that you would have to pay more to get both the Mac & Windows versions.
But perhaps you can understand that many of us who do not need both would be unhappy if we had to pay more so you could pay less.

emmrecs01 reacted to R C-R in owning affinity photo on windows and ipad doesn't give me a license on mac?
It is much more complicated to develop app versions for both Windows and Macs because there are so many fundamental differences in how they work "under the hood." They use different windowing models, different memory management schemes, different driver abstractions, etc.
This means the costs of developing one version does not cover the costs of developing the other, so one way or another Serif needs to set the purchase price to cover their development costs plus enough profit to keep the doors open. They could charge more for a multi-platform license, & perhaps even more for one that covered more than one or two devices, or they could do what they have done & license each platform individually, with a very generous policy for how many devices of that platform type the license covers.
Their choice means users who do not need or want versions for all three platforms are not subsidizing those who do.

It would be HELPFUL if you posted an issue and the steps to reproduce it. That way, someone can begin to help you

This is laughable. Text changing colors, the text boxes filling with a color despite not changing anything, everything impossible to find, and terrible brushes (in Designer).
Congratulations, you managed to make something worse than even Adobe!

emmrecs01 got a reaction from Wosven in Moving drive locations for the Affinity Programs
@Fullnerd
I have all my Affinity apps (and the great majority of my other programs) installed on a dedicated Programs drive (D:\) so, yes it is possible to install other than on C:\.
I suspect your "best" option to move the program is to uninstall first and then reinstall to the new drive. However, I fully appreciate you do not wish to lose your existing brushes, assets etc. Hence I would suggest doing the following (with the usual advice to proceed very carefully, perhaps create a System Restore point first!):
You will find Affinity folders in the following locations outside C:\Program Files. C:\Program Data\Affinity and C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Affinity (Both Program Data and that AppData folder may be hidden - they are by default. You will need to unhide them.) Copy them and all their contents to somewhere on your new drive. You thus have a "safety copy" of all those additional settings safely stored. Uninstall your existing Affinity apps. I think this will remove the original of those folders you have just copied. Reinstall to your new drive. Those Program Data and AppData folders will be recreated (if needed) on C:\. I think you can choose to install them on a different drive but my understanding is that this is not recommended since future updates will "expect" those locations to be in use. Compare the new versions of those copied folders with the copies you made (you can also open the app and check whether those "things you want to keep" are already there.) Whatever is missing you can then copy what you want to restore from your "copied old" folders back to their correct locations. Then all your former settings should be restored.
If you have any plugins used in Affinity Photo I don't think they will be affected by these changes and, assuming you have their .8bf files installed in the default location, APh should find them immediately. If not, I think you will need to reinstall them.

emmrecs01 reacted to hy13 in Plugins and Compatibility
@R C-R:
It is a pity, but meanwhile we know that Adobe changed a lot in PS Interface and plugin vendors followed them. The 8bf still exists, but hardly works as before. Portrait Pro, Portraiture and NIK for example, are no longer fully compatible. You can only use them standalone. What a progress! In the music software industry however, VST is a standard which still works very good, and all software vendors profit from that, but 8bf is dead in the meantime. And therefore there will be a need for Serif with AP to look for agreements with plugin vendors, at least the most important ones, when AP shall further grow in the market.

@emmrecs01 / @walt.farrell I've updated the original post to be 1.9.4.1083 now (was 1.9.4.1079 previously). The new version fixes the OpenCL issues, but as it's a zero-change from the previous beta, there is nothing mentioned in the changelist.

emmrecs01 got a reaction from firstdefence in PagePlus 10 and Affinity
@TheMan
In addition to what @firstdefence has written:
I don't think there ever was a "PagePlus 10", There was a PP 9 and a PP 11, but no 10. If you really do mean "PagePlus 11" then I would have to say whether it will run under Win 10 is rather doubtful, to say the least. The last released version was PagePlus X9, so several versions newer than PP 11. This page is from the Serif web site, showing compatibility of the legacy Plus products with various Windows versions. Or, even better, this updated page for the latest information. HTH

emmrecs01 reacted to ewwn in Will be a free update from 1.9 to 2.0?
Not sure what you mean to achieve here, its not like you saying that you refuse to buy a upgrade means anything. As these are not subscriptions, there is ZERO incentive to provide free upgrades as the software has already been bought. Personally, I bought my affinity products for 75$ total last month and even if a new paid version comes out tomorrow I will buy it to support development of this amazing, dirt cheap software.

emmrecs01 reacted to KC Honie in Affinity affiliate scheme
As an aside, I WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT PURCHASE A PRODUCT THROUGH AN AFFILIATE, I see it as nothing more than someone hawking a product for the money, they could care less about the capabilities of the product. I will completely discount a review by an affiliate.
I applaud Serif for refusing to lower themselves to an affiliate program.

My interpretation is that the company have made an assessment that the current pricing model along with independent referrals from mostly happy customers works for them and the majority of users.

-
emmrecs01 reacted to pixelstuff in Affinity affiliate scheme
I don't think it would be a sin to simply inquire about an affiliate program, but the context around it may rub some the wrong way.
I regularly recommend Affinity products and wondered if there was an affiliate program. Vs.
I want to recommend Affinity products if there was an affiliate program.
One of those sounds almost like you don't really care about the product at all, but would pretend to if you could be paid.

emmrecs01 reacted to Alfred in affinity designer will not print... error cannot initialise the printer
Even if printing direct from an application isn’t flaky, printing via PDF is a good way of avoiding a (potentially expensive) waste of ink/toner and paper, since it affords you the opportunity to see exactly how the document will look when printed.

emmrecs01 reacted to AdamW in Affinity Publisher Customer Beta - 1.9.4.1076
Status: Beta
Purpose: Fixes and Improvements
Requirements: Purchased Affinity Publisher
Windows Store: Not Submitted
Download: Download
Auto-update: Soon
---
We are pleased to announce that Affinity Publisher Customer Beta 1.9.4.1076 is now available as a download from the link above.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is an incremental update from the 1.9.2 version recently released to all customers (although it still installs parallel to the released version, as described above). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.
---
This beta has a performance focus. We have addressed a number of issues particularly with the handling of placed images and documents. If you notice performance improvements (or regressions!) over 1.9.2, or if you notice bugs which appear to have been introduced in 1.9.4, please let us know.
