It's worth remembering that if you attempt to make an online purchase with a debit card and there is a problem, your bank may well show the amount as a charge (because it has been approved) even if the transaction did not go through for some reason. If that is the case the funds will be released, and show in your balance, within a few days. This has nothing to do with the company you are making the payment to, it is purely down to the way some banks work.

I think you are still better off ordering from Serif, given some of the functional issues I have read about that you may experience due to Apple's "sandboxing" of applications you purchase from them. But please make sure that you have Javascript fully enabled, and no extensions active in your browser that would interfere with Javascript, and that if you live in Europe or another area that uses some kind of 2-factor verification of online credit card charges that your browser supports that.
Also, if you're going to purchase multiple Affinity applications make sure you add them all to your cart before checking out, as (I believe) you can only check out once per day with applications in your cart. So you'll want to get them all at once. Alternatively, you might contact Serif at affinity@serif.com and arrange the purchase via email with them.

    Hi @Corgi,
Apologies for the delayed response here!
I can certainly understand your concerns, I am not involved in the development process - but I will do my best to explain the OpenCL Hardware Acceleration function and why GPU drivers are so important.
We always recommend updating to the latest version, as this will ensure you have the latest bug fixes and features of the Affinity app, and it makes it much easier for our team to support you if we're all running the same version. If you are concerned regarding Hardware Acceleration, this can be disabled in all Affinity apps after installation, so should you not wish to take advantage of this feature, it should not negatively affect you.
OpenCL Hardware Acceleration is a relatively new feature, both to Affinity and for modern GPUs. As I understand it, hardware acceleration changes the way the app interacts with your hardware, being able to leverage more of the hardwares capabilities compared to using 'regular' software coding. This direct interaction the apps have when Hardware Acceleration is active means that Affinity has to process data through the GPU drivers in a much more prominent way than previously.
For this reason, having the latest GPU drivers is always recommend, as this ensures Affinity & your GPU have access to the latest bug fixes implemented by the GPU manufacturer and can provide the best performance possible.
Quite frankly, due to the 'modular' nature of Windows you can 'build' a PC with different parts from any manufacturer - meaning there can be literally millions of 'combinations' for us at Affinity to test. This includes hardware, such as different CPUs and GPUs, and also software such as GPU drivers & third party apps on your PC which can conflict with Affinity when launching.
This means that any creative software would be unlikely able to guarantee 'flawless' performance with 'any reasonably current graphics platform/driver' as there will always be new bugs with new hardware/software, requiring updates either to the creative application or the GPU drivers.
Again, should you wish you can simply disable Hardware Acceleration within Affinity and you would not need to 'chase' the latest drivers etc, this is purely if you want the best performance possible from your machine within Affinity, but may require more 'tinkering' than some users are comfortable with.
Of course, in a perfect world this would be our hope also - and our developers are working hard to continue to fix bugs and improve this feature to move closer to achieving this, but as this is still a relatively new implementation on Windows, therefore 'teething issues' are to be expected.
I would personally disagree with this, although I do understand where you're coming from, but even without Affinity or Hardware Acceleration, not updating your drivers in such a long time can leave your PC vulnerable to known security flaws, amongst a slew of other issues. It's for this reason that GPU (and other) driver updates are now a part of the Windows Update procedure, as even Windows understands how important keeping your drivers up to date is for your PC.
We only request that users 'roll back' driver versions if the driver itself is causing incompatibilities with Affinity (such as the known AMD Adrenalin issue), in these cases it is the driver itself that is causing the bug and not the Affinity app - so unfortunately this is all we can recommend to our users, whilst we wait for the driver manufacture to issue a fix. Our developers will always try to provide a fix within the app if possible but most of the time the issue is down to a certain version of driver, in-which the issue has been fixed in an updated driver.
The same as above applies to this quote, and I do believe Affinity is not the only known app to have issues with the specific version of the AMD Adrenalin drivers, from the example above - though I do understand this isn't explicitly what you're referring to.
In the modern age of computing, where Windows updates, new GPU features and software updates are commonplace, so too are driver updates. For example, I personally update my GPU drivers roughly once every fortnight to ensure I have the latest bug fixes and security updates and I would recommend that others also follow suit. You certainly don't need to update drivers this often, unless you are looking for the latest features and the best performance possible.
As mentioned above, we certainly would hope for this in a perfect utopia, and we'll continue to update and improve the Affinity suite to work as best possible with as many configurations as possible, but due to the literally endless combinations of hardware and software, not to mention application settings, driver settings etc there may always be issues that we can't foresee.
As described earlier, you can update to the latest version of Affinity and disable OpenCL Hardware Acceleration, so that you don't have to keep up to date with GPU driver updates and not worry about this feature affecting your workflow - however I would still recommend updating your GPU driver to the latest version for the other reasons provided here, even if you are not updating Affinity.

I hope this helps clear some of your concerns, and my apologies for such a long post!

Sorry, not yet. This quick beta was built specifically to address the three items specifically listed and no other issues yet. That does not mean that your problem will not be investigated or fixed before 1.10.1 is formally released, this is just the first patch for a few issues currently affecting many people.

    Hallo zusammen,

Fact: That is not the same thing as switching a MAS license for one version of an app to an Affinity Store version of the same app at no additional cost. We do not know what Serif might offer for upgrade pricing whenever the next version of the Affinity apps will be released.

Purchases from the Mac App Store are totally independent of purchases direct from Serif, they are not interchangeable.
As you have stated, if you wish to use the Serif/Affinity Store version you will need to purchase it again, from Serif, since they and Apple share no user data at all.  IOW, Serif do not "know" that you have previously purchased the App Store version.

Yes, that's perfectly fine, I think most user want it.
But I don't think it's okay to feel offended and concerned that the bug, that was reported 3 hours after the beta release, was "still" not fixed. And that's what Garry mentioned - nothing else.
Repeating and constantly reminding you of already reported errors will certainly not help to eliminate them.
A different situation would occur if the beta release stated that the bug had already been fixed - then, of course, re-reporting the bug is justified.

Well that's a very complicated way to do that, compared to Apple or Google Photos where it's just a mouse click and drag in editing mode. It looks like a lot of functions in Affinity are made unnecessarily complicated (and inadequate)

That’s a very good point. One also needs to consider the possibility that the keyring might become separated from its owner: important medical details are usually recorded on a small document that can be kept in a bracelet which is worn at all times.

emmrecs01 reacted to R C-R in two people open pub file and only one can save
How could that provide any value? Either user could easily be doing something that conflicts with what the other is doing, for instance changing the color of the same object or replacing it with another, different object. Only one user's edits can "win" at save time, like happens now.
The only way to prevent this is to lock out access to the file by other users as soon as any user opens it, but I don't think there is any way for the Affinity apps running locally to do that. I believe this would have to be something done at the server level.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums
Sorry but our "We Want To Help Again" sale was on for 162 days and it has now, eventually finished. There are bound to be some users who narrowly miss out no matter when we finish, but we think that it's still good value even at full price.

I wish people wouldn’t do that! Since these forums exist primarily to provide support to users, many of whom encounter similar problems, it’s not helpful if a user who posts about a problem and subsequently solves it simply removes the question they posed. A much better course of action is to leave the question intact and to reply to the post with a brief description of the solution to the problem.

emmrecs01 reacted to Ron P. in Purchase from Mac App Store or Affinity Store? (Split)
I use the Windows OS, and will not purchase any app from them. Why? Because MS and Apple both Sandbox the apps purchased from them. They control how those apps, apps they did not produce, function. What Monty242 pointed out is a very good example. They don't think you should be able to use the Nik Collection with Affinity Photo, so they make it near impossible to do so.
This is my opinion... I think Serif would have very good grounds for civil litigation against these two, for placing restrictions on how their (Serif's) products can be used. I think they should demand that these sandbox restrictions be removed, if not they would owe Serif damages. Again just my opinion.
