And that's what I am saying. That makes no sense. Look closely. There are 11 ORIGINAL definitions of export. And 1 (one) measly new age amendment to the original definitions. There are plenty *new* definitions of old words that make no sense and have no merit other than complete new age childish youth non-sense misusing words. "Stems" in the audio world is another one. Used totally wrong, and used totally wrong for so long that the dictionaries have wrongfully followed suit. So you can't use a dictionary as proving something right or wrong anymore. Like politicians, they've lost all credit.
Use logic instead of a dictionary. Thats the simplest. They are doing it with lots of things now a days. Cause people are dumb, then dumb catches on. And well, here we are ! BUT the dictionary does have it there if you read between the lines. 11 normal usual original definitions that predate the one, and 1 hilarious misused new-age definition. That says it all right there.
Either way, like I said, we will never agree. But you guys with this mental block seem to conform (which is the problem), whereas I do not. Just because the government says its law, or a dictionary says this or that does NOT mean that's correct to a natural universal law. So I stick to original. Unless the new thing makes sense. Which in this case it does not. Doesn't matter at the end of the day, if I like pressing a blue button to get food, and the machine changes it to a red button, I will complain, but still know to press the red button to get food and just be unhappy about it. So it really doesn't matter. I am just saying, I hate the word Export being used the way it has started to be in the last 10 years. It's ludicrous plus just looks bad compared to "Save As". Export doesn't "click" for me for the definition that I know it to be. Thats all. And it angers me how society just loves to buy into crap. Instead of sticking to solid, good, logical ways.
Shall we go down the list ? You can no longer use the words "Mom and Dad". Don't know if you heard, but its literally against the law. Because that's wrong and a kid without a mom or a dad or one with a transgender parent will feel some type of way (lol) sooooo, of course we all have to conform to the "hurt feelings" crowd and no longer use the ever so famous words I grew up on called Mom and Dad. You can no longer say Mailman. You can no longer say Manhole Cover. - ALL these are to soon be changed in the dictionary.... and is that right ? Hmmmmm.. I'll let you decide. For me - no it is not. The world needs to quit trying to reinvent the wheel, making it square in the process and claiming how much better it is !
Either way, like the word Stems. The dictionary got the word Export *WRONG*. How embarrassing for them. Maybe more embarrassing for those that buy into it and support it without thinking about it and taking a unique, individual, one of a kind stand instead of moving along with all the cattle.

Totally agree. Hence the whole point of this thread and my other postings.
Also, I dipped out for a sec, but just from a personal terminology side (and I am always right cause I think logically and not emotionally) I still vastly disagree with @R C-R and the others backing the illogical concept of what export vs save as means, should mean in this situation. BUT due to neither side ever having any solid right or wrong thing, this debate could go on forever. Cause this subject is not finite.
Best way I can describe this from a superior mind like myself is this: As you both pointed out - EXPORT means to travel. Hence also by definition Export is a more serious thing. More is going on. Right ? We can all agree there. I look at the word Export as something more serious than Save As. Because its vibe and energy as the group of letters imply that. Just look at them for a sec. Theoretically the word Export shouldn't even be a thing in these apps - Let me explain.
If I were to export you from your house, would you be in the same house ? No. Export means to move. Ok ? Very simple.
Your house is a perfect analogy to a App. NOT a frickin format. Changing format is nothing serious. You can change your format/clothes and still remain in the same house. Format is more related to what you are wearing. This is because nothing really changes except the skin, its the same really. And in the same place, just changed its clothes.
So EXPORT implies your file needs to TRAVEL somewhere - to another app/house is the only logical thing because file formats do not travel, they are clothes, there is no house/country to change, just clothes... "Save As" (which has less gravitational pull due to having same name as Save in it, so implying a less serious task) should be used to change file type. Since its the same as save really, you just want to change its clothes BUT do not need it to travel anywhere. Its also a less serious task, so the name fits. Save & Save As are almost the same. Save is so common, so Save As should be second most common (which is saving as a different file type - no ?). VERY logical.
Export now has totally changed letters here. It by far is implying a far more serious task. Something NOT related to Save. Get it ? As it does not have the word Save within it. So it should be used for the least common task and the task that best fits its description of TRAVEL.
FYI, file format changing is not traveling. Thats ludicrous to even think so. The word in the description says it all = It is "CHANGING" = changing its clothes. Thats it. Very simple. EXPORTING is traveling, and traveling is "MOVING". Our files really do not even need to "move". Just be saved as something else. If you want to use that something else in a new place then fine. But that's a whole other secondary thing, outside of the Affinity app.
Where you are right is this is how it is. So you are right there. Where you are wrong is trying to defend that and bending it into something that makes sense. Cause it don't. Export = Travel. File Format changing is NOT traveling. That said - really we don't even need the Export function/title. It is dumb and confusing. Everything should be under "Save" and  "Save As" as that could accomplish everything and make sense too. Save As whatever you want, then open in a new app if you want.

Apple Support is the only one who knows anything about your license for the iPad Affinity program you purchased from their Store, and if the license is transferrable to a different Apple account they are the only ones who can do it.
But Patrick's approach sounds like a reasonable first step.

I think the straightforward way is to enable family sharing on the purchase account. Add the new account to your "family" and the application can be downloaded for the new account.

    And another thing:

Scale with object affects all of the FX layers.
There was no one in the team who thought that it would be great to have the selection which FX-elements should be scaled and which is not?

Because - as an example - I want to keep the outline size or the shadow the same to match the overall design with its values, but I just want to make some design elements smaller?

This is when I say that UX is critical, thinking forward is critical, etc.

I think this is the 4th time I get the response you gave to me. Thanks for it, but to be honest, I don't trust in it at all (no offense).
And what makes me upset, that you HAD and HAVE the chance to make a real competitor for Adobe (if it is a goal) or you have the chance to make everything incredibly competitive (not just in price). But - as I saw in the case of many-many products - there are companies who listen and there are companies where CTOs think they 'know better'. Well, most of the cases they don't. That is why Adobe rules the 2D illustration world, while almost nobody likes them.

I would be able to make 'into to smallest details' UX how a tool should work to have a better product, even workaround for things are messed up from the beginning, but here is the thing: I did it many times and it is time-consuming and typically goes to a 'midwit' who has no idea about UX, because 'she/he knows things better'. While clearly does not, as the examples illustrate it.

    ''No numeric option for scaling'
This is something we hope to add in the future. '

The whole concept of bitmap fill tool is flawed in many levels in Designer. Numeric option will be great, but it has nothing to do with that.

    ''no FX-layer bitmap fill'
This is available via the Fill Tool.'

I know. From UX aspect it is a typical mistake the way it works and the way it is implemented.

'Assuming you're referring to FX options, this can be found here -'

And why it is there? How this panel in any way related to the bitmap fills in the current implementation?
it is like keeping toilet paper roll in the garage instead of the bathroom near the toilet

"The Affinity suite has been written from scratch for 3 platforms at once and are still in 'infancy' stages, when compared to the lifespan of the legacy 'Plus' range software, which was written for Windows only.
Drawplus was in development for around 24-25 years total, perhaps slightly longer, and during that time many developers built upon the codebase and features.
When Serif switched to the Affinity range, none of that coding could be used - as we wanted a new app that was cross platform with an 'open' filetype that could be opened in any of the apps.
This means that we had to start again, and certain features that may have taken 10 years to add to drawplus haven't yet been implemented into Affinity Designer, as it simply hasn't been in development for that long."

We all know this and this is not an excuse, sorry. Designer was released almost 6-7 years ago.
If you have to rewrite everything from the start, you have the opportunity to fix the glitches and make better implementations than the old ones or the competition have.
    You clearly missed that point.

Here is how as I (a UX/usability advisor) see this: today making any vector or bitmap editing tool does not require ANY innovation; just taking the best, most user-friendly approach on the market exists and use that method. No geniuses needed at all to make this, just hard work.
If you want a cutting edge, market leader application, you listen to experts.

Unity3D did it when they started; I asked for a feature, I made my points and they had it in the app in 3 weeks.
Lumion3D did it: they made a completely different approach and made from Quest they step forward to Lumion, which leads the market of real-time 3D visualization since they entered to that market.
I wrote mails, posts for Serif offering help. No results.

    - So you were able to release Affinity Photo without direct alpha access for texture packing (and yeah, I know your so-called 'solution' and that sucks completely with an extremely stupidly over-complicated workflow - mentioned by many everywhere).
    - You were able to release Designer with extremely terrible UX/UI (I will get back to that later).
    - You removed the roadmap (having 'pages' were promised for Designer when it came out first).

I bought all of the Affinity products to support you, but still use all the former product line, because the current one after years is not there (to replace the old ones).
I have 3 friends bought your products and they still don't use it for anything and who are still Adobe users. Because they had the hope, just lost it.

You don't listen to your customers.

    Hi @DaveW42,
    Welcome to the Affinity Forums
I can confirm that the trial for the Affinity applications has always been 10 days by default, since we started offering trials for our apps.
At the start of 'lockdown' in the UK in 2020, we decided to generously increase this time period to 90 days (to help students who had suddenly found themselves working from home, etc) and ran a 50% off sale at the time.
Unfortunately, this offer could not run indefinitely, and we eventually returned to our original trial period, and pricing - therefore we have not so much 'reduced' the trial period, we have simply reverted to the original time period allowed.
I can confirm that when purchasing the application from the Affinity Store, we provide a 14 day refund guarantee with the apps. If you combine this with the 10 day trial, you effectively have 24 days total in which to test the application to ensure it is right for you.
My apologies if you do not believe this is enough time to test our apps, but this is the only trial period we currently offer. I hope this clears things up!

After several weeks of trying to get some email support from Affinity (and being blatantly ignored after the first email) you guys have left me no choice but to post here. As I've said in other places, your software is fantastic considering it's in its infancy but the three apps are not without some serious bugs, some of which hinder peoples' workflows to the point that it's difficult to use them for the professional use which they're intended.
No, your apps don't cost a lot of money when compared to some rival software but it's really difficult to endure the bugs when many of the fundamental ones have been around for years and have obviously never been addressed despite several updates passing and many many people bringing them to your attention. I fail to see how as a company you think it's ok to advertise your software as 'professional' when there are such basic bugs in some of the apps. When professional people then give you their hard-earned money and the apps aren't up to scratch, you simply turn a blind eye to the after-sales support. Do you not think it reasonable that your customers should be able to try to resolve issues with your software? Isn't that what customer service is about?
Going by some of the other threads on here from several years ago this lack of after-sales support is nothing new. Just pathetic really.

Serif provides the applications to Apple. Apple is responsible for supporting the Apple Store (or iPad Store), and making the sales, and operating the Family Plan.
Serif staff have no idea who you are in the Apple Store, nor how you have set up your Apple account. They have no idea who your daughter is, or how her account is set up. They have no idea whether you have purchased the application, nor any information about the application license you purchased from Apple.
Only Apple Support knows all those things, and only Apple Support can investigate what is happening to you or your daughter. And, in the end, only Apple Support can resolve the problem. Support of their Store and resolution of such problems is part of the function that Apple Support provides, and part of the reason they keep part of the price of each application license sold through their Store.
The Serif staff will see your request, as you have posted in a forum that the appropriate team monitors. But I truly believe you will get a faster, better answer by contacting Apple Support yourself, as you have the details that Apple Support will need to investigate the problem. And I believe that is the answer that the Serif Staff will also provide.

Just a personal thing, but I like to be able to control what and when I install stuff! I avoid the Microsoft Store as much a possible, but that's just my personal choice, I'm sure other people are quite happy with it. 😉

Personally I much prefer buying directly from Serif. I don't think it's really much of a problem to click a couple of buttons occasionally, when prompted to update. Apart from anything else, I'd  rather have some control over updates, and be able to go back to an earlier version if I need to, rather than having updates being installed automatically.
(As an aside, I get the nasty feeling that, sooner or later, Microsoft will make it impossible to install any software that doesn't come from their own App Store!)

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, Robin.
The Affinity apps have been written from scratch, so the code base is completely new and PagePlus and Publisher don’t share the same feature set. If you want to use your old documents with Publisher (instead of reserving APub for new documents and continuing to revise old ones in PP) you’ll need to ‘Publish As PDF’ from PP and open the result in APub.
It may seem strange that the developers haven’t created a purpose-built conversion utility, but the reality is that it would have eaten up a lot of valuable development time and it might well not have produced significantly better results than the PDF route.

Considering the number of different hardware configurations plus the number of different graphics drivers that might be used with them, I do not see how there could be anything even remotely like a simple definitive answer about which combinations would improve rendering performance enough to justify the cost.
I'm not even sure how that could be quantified, but even if it could it still would depend on what the documents that were being rendered contained, since some combinations of stacked filters, adjustments, etc. & other layer types would benefit more than others from GPU acceleration.
Besides, all of this could change dramatically as new drivers & cards become available, their prices fluctuate, & as Serif tweaks the rendering performance for different hardware configurations.

There's a small development team, working on multiple applications, with a long list of changes requested. Some will match things they want to implement, and will be implemented someday. But even when a requested change is acceptable to the Serif management and developers, some will depend on other functions that need to be implemented first, some may conflict with existing or other planned functions and require application rework, and some simply will have a lower priority and will need to wait until the future.
