  1. Hi Jayce, welcome to the Affinity forums. Does this thread provide the answer https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/36513-texture-picker/ ? Jeff
  2. My1, I understand what you are saying but MattP's very comprehensive reply directly above yours sets out very clearly Serif's policy on this; all updates to version 1 will be free and when version 2 (eventually) arrives it will be an upgrade and so will be chargeable. Perhaps this topic/thread could now be deemed "closed"?!!! No, I'm not seeking to stifle comment; it simply appears to me that any further posting is not going to change in any way what Serif have stated as their sales/update/upgrade policy. Just my opinion! Jeff
  3. Hi nmcredy, welcome to the Affinity forums. I think the answer to the question in your final paragraph is yes, unfortunately. That is a spec that is considerably "lower" than one would normally see on a modern computer. In fact, I think it is almost the minimum required to run 64 bit Windows 10. In particular your CPU is very slow and the amount of RAM you have is the barest minimum required by almost all modern, 64 bit programs. I think your graphics card is also rather "old"; I suspect an update of this would also help. If you were able to update your CPU and add more RAM I suspect you would see a considerable improvement in your computer's performance with every program you use, not just Affinity Photo. Jeff
  4. Jörg, I downloaded your two files, followed your method and did not experience a crash! Attached is a screenshot of what I see. I have placed your logo on both versions of the Test image; you can see them clearly. One thing I did notice, which is I suspect caused by my lack of knowledge of Designer: if I place a copy of the logo only partly across one of the images, the area outside the image is invisible. If I place the logo wholly outside one of the images, it remains completely visible. This is shown in the screenshot. Not sure whether what I found will help you or not. Jeff
  5. Lai, thank you for this, which does, indeed, resolve this problem. However, hopefully the devs will eventually ensure that such an additional step becomes unnecessary! Jeff
  6. Sorry, there is, as yet, no fix! Some months ago Mark Ingram acknowledged (post #6 above) this was "caused" by some lack of information being passed to the affected plugs by AP. So the fix has to be created by the developers! Jeff
  7. Hi editor. I'm sure Callum will not mind being called "I R Baboon" but perhaps might prefer his real name be used!! :) However, I think the error message you have posted merely reinforces my belief that you are running a 32 bit version of Windows 8 and so will never be able to install any Affinity product unless you are prepared to upgrade to the 64 bit version of your operating system. Better yet, perhaps, you should seriously consider moving to Windows 10 (64 bit, of course). :) Jeff
  8. I think the phrase I have highlighted above is the key; my understanding is that this strongly suggests you are running a 32 bit version of Windows 8. If so, you cannot run or install any Affinity program; a 64 bit operating system is a pre-requisite. Jeff
  9. My apologies! I had NO idea such a facility existed. Many thanks for making me discover yet another thing I did not know about Designer. Jeff
  10. Under normal circumstances, "Affinity Photo" and "Affinity Photo Customer Beta" install to different folders within Program Files and so are completely independent of each other (in terms of installation/uninstallation) so I'm not at all sure how installing the Beta could possibly overwrite the full retail version. Unless you selected to install the beta in "... Program Files\Affinity Photo" rather than allowing it to install to its default directory?
  11. Dave, why did you uninstall the purchased version of AP? The customer betas can happily co-exist with the full retail version. In order to redownload and reinstall the full version simply log into your Affinity account - you should have received all the details when you originally purchased the software - and you will find links to the full version, along with your serial number/registration code. Jeff
  12. Yes, this is an oft-repeated topic!! However, you should be able to achieve what you want if you choose in the folder window, View>Large icons (or Extra-large icons) or even Medium-sized icons. I've checked this on Windows 10; I'm pretty certain it is the same on Windows 7. Jeff
  13. Thank you for the update. I think we all understand your frustration! The problem of the installed but missing SP1 is a real puzzle. I wonder whether https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed might be the page to read and follow the instructions to see whether it can find and remove this ghost? I have to say I've never needed to use that fix but I know Serif staff have previously drawn attention to it in these forums so it is certainly worth a try. Jeff
  14. I suspect this may have nothing to do directly with your problem but I see you have only 2 GB RAM installed. For a 64 bit OS this is absolutely minimal, I believe. I tried to install 64 bit Windows 7 on my laptop, which has only 2 GB RAM (and cannot be increased) and I soon found that the OS wanted to use most of this, leaving almost nothing for any app, and the computer crawled. As a result I installed the 32 bit version of 7, and then 10, and everything ran smoothly (though clearly I cannot install the Affinity apps to the laptop because of the need for a 64 bit OS :( ). As my signature shows, my principal computer is a 64 bit desktop, the laptop is a standby. Jeff
  15. Did you follow the instructions in post #5 above? Although I use Windows my assumption is the procedure for installation is the same for Macs. (Of course, you do need to unzip the files first.) And, by the way, this palette can be added to both Designer and Photo. +1!!
  16. Not the case for me. I have several Topaz plugs and all are seen and usable. Under Preferences>Photoshop plug ins, assuming you've pointed AP to the correct folder for the plugin dlls, have you ticked the box to "Allow unknown plugins to be used"? Jeff
  17. I would guess that you do not live in the UK, but a quick search brought me to this UK purchase page (for Designer), https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/designer/ For Photo, the page is https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/photo/ Maybe there is are similar ones for your country?
  18. David, I very recently bought a HUION 610Pro when Amazon were running a special deal. I have absolutely no cause to regret the decision to buy; it works perfectly for me in both Photo and Designer, using Win 10. Perhaps I need to add that I am no expert with either the programmes or the tablet! Jeff
  19. ... or ABSoft NeatImage https://ni.neatvideo.com/ I should add, I've never used Topaz DeNoise (I do have other Topaz plugins) because I am a long-time user of NeatImage and NeatVideo and find them both excellent. Jeff
  20. @mac_heibu and MBd. MANY THANKS. That's exactly the information I needed to know. Have now reset Preferences>Colour in both APW and ADW to defaults. Jeff
  21. Fotero, thank you for taking the time to respond so fully to my question. I am certainly NOT insulted by being given information about this topic, on which my previous understanding was very much lacking. My computer, as per the spec in my signature, is self-built, running Windows 10 Professional. I currently have all the settings as you state under Display Setting>Advance>Color Management, my monitor's x rite profile is selected as the default. What I am still not completely clear about is, in Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer, should I set the profiles there also to my monitor's x-rite profile or should I leave them at the default, i.e. "sRGB" etc.. Once again, my sincere thanks for your help. Jeff
  22. @DidiS, as R C-R has said and is confirmed in the thread he linked to, Affinity Photo thumbnails can and do appear in Windows File Explorer. You will need to ensure you follow Lee's advice in that linked thread (about type and displayed thumbnail size) and that in Preferences>General "Save thumbnails with documents" is ticked. (I have AP and AD running under Win 10 Pro and can see thumbnails for all my Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer files.) Jeff
