    Hi lacerto,
I overlooked the pdf you created and attached!
Thanks for that: importing it to publisher all color swatches are indeed vector rectangles each containing the individual colors with the intended color values.
Certainly a useful pdf for future use as well 🙂
    Cheers,

    Oh, shoot.
Yes, then it makes totally sense 'add' x,0,0 to nothing doesn't leave much else than just resulting in x,0,0 🙂
Well, the red rectangles and not to mention the good old 'copy and paste' did the job in a breeze 🙃

Roberto1972 got a reaction from jimfbk55 in Feature request: toolbar button for Plugin list
To start a plugin one needs to click Filter, go down to Plugins, click on Plugins, move mouse to list of plugin categories, click plugin category name, move mouse to list of plugins in category, move mouse to plugin and click desired plugin.
Part of this ritual can not be avoided but the list of Plugins being accessible with a toolbar button would already save a heck of annoying clicks for users of plugins. A little button is not in the way of those not using plugins.
Alternative would be a keyboard shortcut to Filters - Plugins but that is 'not possible'.
Plugin users consider plugins as an important part of the image editor just as much as the other basic tools. Therefore a Plugin -Studio- would be the ideal option but that's likely never going to happen.

    Yes! Thanks!
It took a bit figuring out and testing but that's exactly what I was looking for: changing the global color indeed changes the color of all text set to that global color.
I noticed the color was added to pallette 'Document'; haven't checked it out yet but I'm wondering if I can use the global color in other documents, too.
Initially started to check out the 'Find and Replace' tool: I wouldn't be surprised if Affinity would offer exotic 'find arguments' and indeed: a whole list of options including color.
However, changing color worked once while at next attempts the 'Found results' panel stayed empty.
Oh well, global colors works like a charm :-P

Roberto1972 got a reaction from Wosven in Bug when copying text containing apostrophe+hyphen
    Hi Wosven,
Oh right, it is perfectly clear now. Yes, that's a good idea but in my case I copied the whole at once so I should have captured it all :-P
As for the Reveal Codes functionality in WordPerfect attached a screendump of how it looks. I LOVE that tool; kind of a pitty I don't use a text editor that much anymore as I used to.
Actually, after having switched software various times (back and fourth, including trying new tastes due to changing update costs, or brand boycot principles) I'm still confused of what to use for future works with limited graphics: text editor or dtp editor. Bottleneck is compatibility while my goal is saving for future use. Even considering the epub format (eBooks) which is a very interesting concept: an epub file is just a zip file (you can change extension and unzip) containing folders: one for the actual text, one for the actual images, one for layout, etc. This way whatever happens you always can extract the original text and images while being independent of branded software and versions having installed on the pc.
...too many docs by now having been created with obsolete software that even refuse to install on Win10. If having too much time still plan to convert it all to pdf on an XP computer ... XP swallows and runs everything :-)

    Hi,
It can be very useful to add document or project related notes within an Affinity Photo document itself.
Attached an Affinity Photo file which allows you to add a "sticky note" layer to any AP document by means of copy-paste a whole layer group and additionally edit the related text layer.
Toggling "notes" layer visibility will show/hide your document info.
In the example you can see whether you like to download it or not.

    Hi,

Just wanted to let you know that AlphaPlugins LaunchBox successfully allows you to run your good old 32 bit plugins from within Affinity Photo, which is 64 bit.
This also applies to Serif PhotoPlus (at least X8 works - which was my initial concern). Very affordable tool seeming to be the only practical way to still let you benefit from your precious otherwise trash banned 32 bit plugins!

After installation issues (see below) were solved I successfully ran 32 bit plugins on backgrounds, layers as well as on selections. Majority of plugins should work (including AlienSkin ones, yeaii!)

    Installation:
    • Execute the installer.
    • Destination program folder: any folder you like (AlphaPlugins folder will be created in there, including program files).
    • Manual plugin folder installation: choose your 64 bit plugins folder (AlphaPluginsBridge.8bf will be added there during installation).
    • If your 64 bit plugins folder only has the 8bf added and no ini file then create the ini file manually: create text document named AlphaPluginsBridge.txt; change .txt extension to .ini
    • In the manually created AlphaPluginsBridge.ini file add a single line: the path to where LaunchBox is installed (e.g. C:\Program Files\AlphaPlugins\AlphaPluginsLaunchBox.exe ) and save the file.
    • Run Affinity Photo (from here I assume Affinity Photo already knows what your 64 bit plugins folder is)
    • Open image, go to plugins menu, run AlphaPlugins - AlphaPlugins 32bit Bridge...
    • AlphaPlugins LaunchBox will start: enter registration info or remain in trial mode
    • In 'Properties' menu (remove the default plugin folder and) add your plugin folder(s) containing 32bit plugins.
    • Select a plugin folder in this list and click OK (plugins will be loaded and main UI is shown)
    • Open 'Filters' menu; select (32bit) plugin and click OK: from here everything behaves like running normal plugins

    • When running AlphaPlugins 32bit Bridge... again from the plugins menu in Affinity then just go straight to the 'Filters' menu and select the plugin to be run.
(only when you want the Filters menu to show plugins from an other plugins folder you need to go to the Properties menu and select an other plugin folder).

Works like a charm so had to let know here :-)

    Hi,

I understood Affinity and FilterForge both finally got in touch with each other, which is awesome.
Now I'd like to abuse this opportunity to let know that Harald Heim from thepluginsite.com emailed Affinity on Tuesday Januari 10th, also for the sake of Affinity compatibility of his plugins.
Hopefully someone from Affinity reading this could double check if Harald's request came through.

What I understood from some plugin developers they are mainly interested in (an NFR license and) how to make their plugins being recognized as a 'known' plugin in Affinity. Next to other technical stuff obviously.

PS: I noticed some plugin developers and potential (even Photoshop!) users are held back from buying Affinity because there is no trial version available: somehow Serif managed to attract even Photoshop users as the word goes around online that Affinity has some very interesting features making it worth to use Affinity as a complementary product to the workflow of PS obsessed users  :) . Who could have ever imagined that: being able to get any interest of the Adone-only community?

Perhaps good to reconsider having an Affinity trial available?

In the past I already had FF not working, it happened at least in PhotoPlus releases.
FF came up with the solution when I contacted them back then. Their suggestion worked out and I documented it.
Indeed when installing the latest FF it didn't run in Affinity. I remembered the issue, looked up the fix and it worked.
Earlier this week in an other group someone asked about the exact same issue: how to make FF work in Affinity.
I sent him the attachment I added to this initial post and the workaround worked for him as well.

So I thought it would be useful to share this info among Affinity users.

Roberto1972 got a reaction from Fixx in [APh] Crop tool like in PhotoPlus
    Hi,

It looks like the crop tool in Affinity Photo is not as flexible as in PhotoPlus.
With the latest crop tool update in PhotoPlus we were able to go anywhere we wanted like creating a fixed dimension crop from any size crop marquee:
Constrained 658 x 498 -> crop marquee became this dimension and could be manually dragged bigger and moved.
When applying the effect the selected area was cropped and automatically downsized to 658x498 (image size).

This seems not possible in Affinity.

Additionally, when recording a crop in a macro there is no way to select an image area to be cropped: Affinity just crops the area recorded, period, while no way to select the area to be cropped. This makes the crop tool useless for macro recording.

That truly exciting crop flexibility was very useful for quickly transforming (part of any) images to required sizes like website uploads, wall papers, optimizing images for DTP purposes, etc.

Hope PhotoPlus crop power is going to make it in Affinity :-P

    Hi,

Either if I copy contents of a DrawPlus file and paste in a blank AD A4 document or when I export a DrawPlus file to wmf and open it in AD something weird happens:

If I click on an object or blank space then a seemingly total 'random' object is being selected (not that random: looks like AD suffers from some consistent wrong mouse location reference point syndrome).

However, if I create selection marquees (with or without including right mouse button) than the correct objects are being selected.

If I save as AD file and reopen nothing changes.

Note: I have the font Arial Black installed but AD complains it can't find the font. It's also not in the AD font list (but it is present in the list of font types under Arial itself).

Any physician around specialized in CWMLRP syndrome? What are the odds for total cure?

Can the NET software be installed separately in order to leave it there when installing a new AD beta?
I assume .NET stays the same while only AD gets updated.

Saves a lot of beta (un)installation time.

Never mind: AD beta 1.0.5.14 installed quickly as it skipped installing .NET.
Looks like the latest .NET that was installed with AD .12 wasn't uninstalled when uninstalling AD .12 before installing the latest beta .14.

Same here: AD Win crashes when Ctrl+Shift+2
Not when using numpad 2; only when using keyboard 2

It's not a total freeze: the crash is nicely catched by an error handling system; message : Unhandled Exception error. Clicking OK the message goes away and AD is closed.
Restarting AD an error report is sent.

Ah, ok; makes totally sense. I know consistency is a very hard task when two or more people are involved. Therefore the 'long shot' :-)
And you all are right: first priority is turning the beta into an income generating one. With the Affinity series starting from scratch Serif had/has to rely on limited savings or even loanes anyway with less income from the usual product updates.

It's a big move to start from scratch so best to get through it as fast as possible :-)

Don't get it anyway why Affinity for Mac costs only 40 bucks; it's just way too low for such software. 'Hopefully' that price is temporary in order to get a name out there. Too cheap isn't taken serious by the pro sector anyway. Oops, now I'm drifting off topic... and worse: none of my business :-P

The icons for adding and deleting are placed next to eachother; kind of tricky that way. Perhaps the trash bin icon should be placed at the far right of the tab.

After sitting back for a while regarding my initial Affinity installer issue before, today I gave it a shot again: I re-downloaded Affinity Designer Windows and to my pleasant surprise I noticed the file sizes were slightly different. Looks like it has been updated! File properties confirmed I went from 1.5.0.4 to 1.5.0.5.

Anyway, when running the installer this time it actually finished installing! Hurray :D

So today I ran Affinity for the very first time. First impression was: 'Thank goodness, it's actually still a lot like the other Serif software! Yes! '
...ok, I lied: the véry first impression was: 'Yack! dark UI  ' but I won't go into that now.

Just got a quick play with it:
    • Preferences - UI: sliders often don't respond;
    • Personas: dragging the green slider with white button slider (Android phone type) into project once succeeded but on successive attempts only the white button was placed on the page (without the green slider).

Serious bugs I ran into I will get to later, after I have run some good test runs. For now, I'm pleased with the fact that it's all Serif style  ;)
