    Seneca,

Thank you for the tip. I suppose they'll document this in the help files later.

BTW, what is the significance of the "Replace Existing" check box in the "Apply Master" dialogue box? What are the effects of either choice?

"Replace Existing" will replace all the Masters applied to that page, unchecked the master will be added to the existing ones. It can be quite useful.

I don't want to resort to soft line breaks to force-wrap text to another line. I should be able to set it up and back it up by a TOC style

I am of the school that says we have to not just get the book/magazine/thesis out the door but make it legible and comprehensible, and part of that means sometimes the arbitrary automatic 'line breaks' will result in a poorly understood Table of Contents.

You could set up the Paragraph style to give the following result,

I would rather break after "... that needs" so "some space" is kept together. Heck I would maybe even break after "... long title". Every job is a "Pick two; Good, Cheap, Fast" type job. A customer chooses Cheap and Fast they get the long line in the Table of Contents if they pick Good and Cheap it'll take a while, the not cheap customers take precedence.

I guess what I am saying is that if we could do this sort of thing with a style I would most likely be disappointed in the results and wind up doing the work by hand most of the time anyway.

I found this same thing yesterday, except that if I change the cursor to the Text Tool, I can then set the guides from either ruler.   I don’t remember whether this was the issue previously.

But you should be able to set the guides from the rulers with the cursur. Affinity designer do that.

    So - is it a bug ???

Here on Mac I can set guides only with the Move tool (the arrow). Neither Text tool will let me drag a guide off of the rulers.

I'll join you in being a pain about this one...

Scroll bars should always be present in document windows on a computer.  For Apple to let us disable that was kind of silly, and hiding them by default is unfortunate.

Apple used to make sensible decisions about the user interface, I think they got too caught up in change for change's sake several years ago. And we pay the price. [world weary sigh emoticon]

When using a font with old-style figures the last digit of a number is switching to default, and this strange behaviour continues throughout the entire text.screenshot.png.ea23c3bd104f8116e52036c00f4d260e.png

I don't see this here on Mac, is it perhaps the font? I tried with two separate families and the numbers stayed as old style while typing and once changed and changed back. I tried with a couple of paragraph styles and no style but the old style set in the typography panel.

That does not work for me I need to make the first word after the number bolder, I can't sect it alone, the number gets selected too. I think Old Bruce is correct about the number and the first character are the same thing.

Easy work around: you just need your cursor in the first word and then select the bold character style/attribute for the whole word to go bold. If you select one or more characters then only those will go bold. "Mar|k" (where the red bar is the text cursor) will become "Mark" if you hit the button or select a bold Character Style.

If you want to have a Numbered List Paragraph Style it is more work in setting up a couple of styles but it will work better if you have a huge number of these lists.

If it was "(Basic)" and has a red stripe on the left side of the layer entry that would indicate that you have a Master Page named Basic, and the contents of that layer are all the contents of that Master Page.

Edit: And, interestingly, if you have drawn your Guides on the Master Page, and you Group the Master Page layer on a document page, the Guides do disappear. That feels like it could be a bug, though as we're not really supposed to play with that layer the developers may disagree :)

Edit 2: The other content from the Master page does not disappear when the layer is grouped with something else, which makes the Guides disappearance seem even more like a bug.

The same thing happens on Mac. I would think that your "Edit 2:" means this behaviour of the guides disappearing is a bug.

@Old Bruce, in which way does the "sort of things" have an influence? I'd guess the demanding task is the textflow around the objects, not the object content.

"sort of things", A text frame, a picture frame, a cropped image, a filled path, a rectangle etc. You and I had no crashes occurring but I only tested with a couple of items and the crash could be caused by one specific item (Text Frame with overflowing text for example) which I didn't test for and wouldn't necessarily think of testing for. You have a shadow added to your objects, I didn't think to add effects. Is "Picture" an image in a frame, a placed PS file, a placed PDF, a sketch drawn with the pencil tool or a closed curve grouped with a Star Object and on and on.

I always think that more (pertinent) information is better for tracking bugs. Code is complex and there may only be one combination which causes a crash.

    2. Well, indeed. My intention was to complicate to find problems. When working, sometimes I have to break frames (for one reason or another) and using the connection allow me to organize the text and don't retype or copy paste it all. That's why this feature exists.

    3. I used Column Break. Not Frame Break
    4. In my file, text offset probably is due to font change or just a text size too high.
    5. We have time, take your time... ;-) But thanks, anyway

Okay I understand, I find problems without looking for them all the time in real life and in software. But if I go looking for them I find many more that way. Keep up the work.
