but if you are saying you always get a 'recovery file exists' message of some sort, that is not normal -- like @stokerg mentioned, that should only happen if the app crashes, & that is how it does & always has worked for me.

I have saved, closed a document and quit the application only to see the recovery file available dialog on starting up again later. This happens often enough to be noticeable but no where near every time.

What I think you are missing here is a page that has something in it like a text box to which I will flow text from a page to page. In this case, the master page won’t help since the text box is on the page itself and not the master page because putting a text box on a master page is inactive on the actual page. Am I missing something here?

If I want to add 50 pages with a certain set up, duplicating pages is a pain when you have to do it one at a time.

Until Affinity gets the Master Pages working properly regarding text frames not copying and applying onto every page what we put in them then yes it is a pain. Death by a thousand cuts.

+1 for swatch names automatically updating when the colour values are changed.

This is a useful feature for print production, especially when global colours are used.

I really don't like automatic but I do see the value of your desire for it, how about we split the baby and have an auto rename button or check-box for you folks who want it and I get to name things after projects or people's favourite colour and have it stick forever. Check-box would be best I think, set it and forget it.

On further reflection, I understand how one might choose to set up a separate, single-page document with guides to layout a magazine cover, or a book dust jacket with interior flaps, but now exactly would you set up a two-panel, magazine-page foldout in Publisher? I'm stumped.

I think you would need to use single page layout not facing page layout and then change the size of the pages and use guides instead of margins etc.

  5. You are seeing what you want to see, you need to accept that it isn't going to happen.

"Affinity team say it's not likely" Full Stop.

    It isn't going to happen.

I do enjoy these little discussions only because I have an odd sense of humour. edited to fix grammar.

Thanks for reply.I've played around with it,removing a bit at a time & to a degree it worked, not really a satisfactory way to do it though. If i upload the photo,a photo of a school day,my neice & mother, can they be lifted by anyone using this forum.I obviously wouldn't want that.

I understand your (well founded) concerns about your niece & mother, perhaps you can find a similar image with 'things' instead of people which gives you the same problem to upload.

Here's what I mean; had I been using PagePlus and selected the green object, that colour would have been highlighted on the palette , so I could identify the colour I had used.

    Colours.PNG

It may well be I can see that there are more colours below what is visible. Also you may have a 'different' colour because of blending or effects etc.

all the time, plans get positiond and scalled in a special way, and so exchanging them with new pdfs, vector based plans means changing only the content and not the size..

it realy makes sens, also to drop a new pdf on an existing imageframe with content. and here leaving the scale the way it was makes just sens and is totaly useful..

I realize that this work flow may not work for you but here goes. I made a couple of documents in Affinity Designer "A doc" & "B doc" I made a document in Affinity Publisher and put in a picture frame of the desired size. I exported A doc as a PDF and named it replace.pdf then I placed it (set to Linked Preferred) into the Publisher document's picture frame. I moved and rotated the picture frame and saved the document. I then used Designer to export B doc as a PDF and used the same name so as to overwrite the current PDF. Switching back to Publisher I had a notice that the placed pdf had been changed so I updated it and the sizing and rotation were honoured.

I guess you would have to have a set of generic names like "plan 1" etc and keep track of them, it is up to you as to whether this method (overwriting the PDF) would be possible.

Edit; Nothing crashed but the memory was used up by Spindump and slowed the whole machine down. This might be due to something else but I thought I should mention it. This was a very simple PDF, so test on something small.

That “best ‘for now’” you speak about is just not good enough.

Pretty much a deal breaker for me, I could maybe justify buying it if that was the only thing but the lack of anchored images in text flow as well just puts it out there on the watch and wait list.

I too am amazed at the fact that Master Pages were not working 'properly' from the very first. I do believe there will be a lot of very upset customers if that is not in the first commercial release.

Starting a new document, I activated the baseline grid with 'Top of the margin'. On the first page it works great, but when I add another page the following text does not match with the grid anymore. Hope I haven't missed anything.screenshot.png.10a10cf78d3fa6dee1cf14811a3602e8.png

This is how I would expect the spacing of the Baseline to behave regarding the spread placement, it is continuous from the top of the spread. The Text Frame though is wrong on the second page. it only works if the grid spacing is an integer divisor of the page height. Really weird little bug.

A work around is to use the baseline option in the Text Frame, I use it all the time an prefer it for some work. Just align it with the page's baseline grid and you are good to go.

I think the implication is that the text box or artistic text is selected as an object but that the insertion point has not been placed or text highlighted.  In this situation it might not be unreasonable to expect that some of the adjustments would be applied to all of the text in the selected object.

I understood the implication but the asked for functionality would be horrible. I frequently have dozens to hundreds of linked text frames, will the shortcut apply to all the text over all the pages? All the different Paragraph Styles could be over-ridden resulting in a mess. How is selecting the text with the Text Tool so arduous? What are we looking at an additional one or two clicks with the mouse, three at the most.
