The thing is, after creating the squares and managed to arrange them (with snapping enabled), I found there are very thin lines between every square.

And when zooming, they still exist.

    Which is, very disturbing.

BTW, Every block is in whole pixels.

What you are seeing is the pixel grid, for want of a better term, I doubt you can see them (the lines) when viewing at 'normal' size.

Things like "starting number" (i.e.1 or 23, or 49, or whatever) and "style" (i.e. i, ii, iii, or 1, 2, 3, or I, IV, XI, etc.) so that a document can be numbered alone, or as a part of a sequential group of documents each continuing on with the page numbering of the one before.   Probably describing this as clearly as mud, but hopefully the Affinities will understand.

See Document > Section Manager for starting # and style.

Why are you hitting return so often? Even in Word that's supposed to be used only at the end of a paragraph.

If you're trying to force a line break but stay within the same paragraph you should be using something else, like shift-return.

@A_B_C Ah, I think I see it now, thanks. Your videos definitely helped.

It was the phrase "all pages in the current document have the same set of layers" that was confusing me. It sounded very much like all of the pages had the same layers on them, but it's not that at all.

So, if I've got this right, a global layer is a 'something' that encompasses layers across all pages/spreads which can all be switched on/off at the same time. For instance, I could have a global layer which contains all the text for the whole document in English and another global layer which contains all of the text in French, and I could switch between the two languages - across the whole document - by simply switching one global layer 'on' and the other 'off'. The layout, guides, pictures and other stuff can stay the same but I can switch between the languages easily. Essentially I can have different versions of the same document within one document and don't have to duplicate the document, or maintain different documents, to accommodate any differences. Have I got this right, up to a point at least?

If I've understood it correctly then I can now understand why lots of people might want this, especially in a professional setting.

Okay, I think I understand. If your definition is correct I could get behind this. I had a hard time trying to wrap my head around the concept's utility versus Master Pages.

For facing numbered  document pages you first make a text block on the LEFT  Master Page of a   2-page spread, and then use Text>Insert>Fields>Page Number for page number 1.  Which is counter intuitive.   Shouldn’t page 1 be a right facing page?   Then you drag a copy of  that text block over to the right Master Page  and deposit it where you want the number to appear and the next number (2) pops in.

That is a "Wait, what just happened?" moment. Even worse is if you have three Masters and the page numbers are on the third master. Numbering starts at 5 on the left page. I have taken to having the Fields hi lighted just so I don't freak.

    Hi there

not sure if this has been addressed ............. when I propagate page numbers the numbers only show up on even numbers, even after selecting all pages ........... I think this is a bug !!!

Also, when I go to the tutorials they do not seem to be updated to the current version.

Are you using Text > Insert > Fields > Page Number or are you using the Fields Studio to place the Page Number fields on the Master page? Did you apply the Master Page to all the pages? Are you sure you are placing Page Number and not Next/Previous Frame Page Number?

It works as expected here on my machines.

I understand that, but in some cases, some adjustments/filters may be disabled without affecting too much the visualisation of the output - you can re-enable them temporarily to check things out while you work.

One thing you can do to work around the performance issues at least in the case of dodge/burn is to create a duplicate of the pixel layer with all the filters/adjustments attached (or of all the layers if you wish), then rasterise it (right-click the layer in the Layers panel and select Rasterise) to flatten/bake the effects of the adjustments/filters a single pixel layer. Hide the original layer (untick it in the layers panel to prevent it from affecting the performance of the app). Now to dodge/burn create a new pixel layer above the duplicated flattened layer you just created, fill it with 50% grey and set its Blend Mode to 50%. Perform the dodge and burn on this layer (which will use the flattened duplicate below) to help you visualise the result (without the performance issues of the live adjustments/filters), then when you have finished hide or delete the flattened duplicate and re-enable the pixel layer with the live filters/adjustments.

Having a high number of live adjustments/filters active will always slow down the app while you paint as there's quite heavy processing going on.

This is a great work around, I don't see the performance of machines and software ever getting to the point where an idea like this would not be needed.

Happy new year to you too, @Uncle Mez!

I think it's interesting how the sculpt mode is a function you can toggle on and off. Depending on the design, there are times it's needed and times it's not needed, so it works that way. When I used Illustrator, I drew open lines very close to each other, and they accidentally connected.

Anyway, I've been making a list of bugs I found over time. I figured I'd wait for the next beta to come out to mention them since some have already been mentioned. Three of them have been solved in this beta. Four have not. Should I mention them here, or should I create separate topics for them?

I would suggest new topics for the four of them. Makes it easier to keep track of the solutions.

In the document I'm working on I'd like to make the name of heading 1 appear (chapter title) in the header of the pages that are part of that chapter so as to have visually the evidence of the chapter of which those pages are part. The new chapter starts in a new page that would have the new chapter's name in the header.

I can't find the solution in the proposed fields.  Any suggestions ?
    Thanks & Ciao

Go to Document > Section Manager and set up the sections to have the same page number and Chapter Name instead of the blank field or Section one, two, etc.

Place the Field (View > Studio > Fields) from Document Sections called Name: <Section Name> into a text frame on a Master Page and every Page with that Master applied will have the correct chapter name.

  10. I have no luck with the shortcut for choosing the Flood Fill tool. I press G and the Gradient Tool is chosen but a second press does nothing. Other tool shortcuts with multiple tools work fine. It works fine on Affinity Photo 1.6

The Preferences for both applications are the same. Shows the letter G and the weird little blob indicating that it is for more than one tool in both Gradient Tool and Flood Fill Tool.

Problem is on both the laptop and the desktop computers.

Now that is an indication of something - not sure what.

Old Bruce - you pick up on a cartoon character miss spelling but miss "Ben" spelling of 'been'?xD

"not sure what.": A wasted life? A mostly wasted life? A partly wasted life?

Regarding Ben/Benn/Been all I can say in my defence is D'oh! I learned a long time ago to never proof by myself anything that I had set.

I am new to Affinity designer and am trying to switch the greyscale panel to colour!!! I have worked my way through the tutorials where it told me how to do this and I can't remember which tutorial it was. Can anyone help so that I don't have to go through all the tutorials again? thanks

Do you mean the document colour format? Document > Colour Format > Make a choice.

OK, but what would the right terminology be? There is no specific "pixel size" specified for the digital image metadata in every image file type -- pixels could be any size & they do not even have to have a square aspect ratio.

That messed my mind up when I first came across it several years ago. But I got over it and don't worry about it. Software takes care of all that stuff behind the scenes. Maybe things per inch should be the new standard. tpi rules! Or when ever you see dpi just make your brain see ppi or vice versa. It is really really easy to do and it doesn't matter.

No, it is a 100% discount. It is easy to show that it is with any calculator in just a few steps:

    1. Enter the shipping cost
    2. Press the minus key
    3. Enter 100
    4. Press the % key
    5. Press the = key

The result will be zero, thus proving the discount is the full 100%.

Such a silly mistake, you have to multiply by the difference.

    1. Enter the shipping cost.

    2. Press the multiplication key.

    3 Enter 40 (100% - 60% discount).

    4 Press the % key.

    5 Press the = key.

Post Script: I am glad you are no longer doing my tax returns. [smiley face emoticon]

Well a moving loupe should be able to pick a color from everywhere on the screen, also from a beneath color wheel panel. Other tools loupe can do that too, it's just reading the underlayed pixel information. - But if you look carefully you can see that it only can partly do so in the above shown screen capture and fails there for most areas.

I too have noticed that behaviour. I would classify this as a bug for certain.
