Testing Master page Unlink and Editing
Old Bruce replied to SteveP110's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Never noticed this before. Same/similar behaviour here only shows up once right at starting the application. -
Ouch.

I think what you are seeing is the edge of the image being cloned.

Adding a single page in the middle of a multipage document results in unexpected behaviour. To wit all the text is repeated in an unlinked text frame next to the added page. I have used single page masters, none, and double page masters to try and add a single page all to no avail. I like that the pages keep their left right orientation regarding inner/outer margins but this doubling of the linked text is a real pain and a puzzler. I have devised a work around which may be simpler in the long run. I just add a page at the end and then delete the Master Page elements from the page I would have inserted, all the text maintains its proper flow.

Using the new (proper) Text Frames on a master page results in an inability to select some text and change its colour or put a stroke on it. I can change the font, weight, size and background colour but I cannot change the font's colour or put a stroke around it. The history studio records what I can change but not what I cannot even though the various colour studios show the new colours to be selected, even shows what I have chosen for the text's stroke colour and size. These values will carry over to a new text frame or artistic text. I can also change/over-ride all the paragraph settings from the paragraph studio. I can only change the text colour if I change the master page setting from "Edit Frame Content" to "Edit Detached".

Testing Master page Unlink and Editing

If you are using 1.7.0.221 there are no hoops to jump through. Set up your master page with all the text frames the way you have them and then you can just go from page to page clicking in the Text Frames you wish to edit/paste text in and do so. The Master Pages won't update or change. Right click on the Master Page, not the items on the master page. -
Text Styles List Window
Old Bruce replied to Morgoth's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Sadly no. You can remove all at once, or just one at a time. You may also remove all 'based on' styles if you select a style and choose that option. I clear all styles as soon as I make a new document and roll my own starting with a group called 'Base'. I had some troubles applying Character Styles to be Initial Words and Drop Caps in Paragraph Styles and it was due to the lack of a Base Group Style. In lieu of "Delete all unused Styles" I would settle for a warning along the lines of "This Style is applied in the document. Do you want to delete it?" -
Here is a display bug regarding Text Frames on Master Pages with linked text frames. The first is a shot of the selection of text in linked Text Frames created on the pages the second shot is of linked Text Frames from the applied Master Pages. The text is properly selected but I can't really tell in the second shot where I started or ended. Magnification has no effect.

New Icons Too Similar
Old Bruce replied to Jens Krebs's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
An ugly UI (user interface) is a valid reason to not want to use an application but I can honestly state that I dislike, sometimes to the point of hatred, all the Icons for all the applications I use most often. Both aesthetically and for more practical reasons. I look at the interface and work there, looking at my work. There is an application with an Icon which I quite like, yet the application I use has an ugly Icon, I use the latter application because it is a superior product. -
Numbering on master pages in v. 221
Old Bruce replied to jmwellborn's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Page numbers work as expected here too, Mac OS 10.12.6 Sierra too. However I do find that the same glyph being used for all three flavours of page number is quite confusing. -
I like the new (proper) behaviour of the Text Frames but they have broken Find and Replace. You can find the string you enter, but you will not go to the page containing it. Furthermore and worse is that you can not replace anything. Find and replace works as before only if you manually create and link Text Frames on the pages.

a Weird typing bug I Encountered in .221
Old Bruce replied to Old Bruce's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Thanks for finding this for me. I can live with hitting the shift key when starting a new sentence, it is after all the way I type. But it is definitely a bug. In that a word in the middle of a sentence should not look like "... In that a Word in the middle of a Sentence should...". it should look like "... In that a word in the middle of a sentence should ...". -
Outline stroke?
Old Bruce replied to nametag's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Perhaps fixed instead of floating point decimals. Or the wrong flavour of float is being used somewhere. Caveat: I have forgotten more than I ever really knew about types. -
Update Text Style in .221
Old Bruce replied to Seneca's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
It works here as long as I have the text caret in the altered paragraph.
