  1. On top of that, I found that this is the case for custom artboards only. I press the delete key while the Artboard Tool is selected to keep the new canvas size and keep the objects inside. Then if you drag the marquee from outside the artboard, you should be able to select the objects inside.
  2. Oh yes, I definitely knew that the moon can look different sizes depending on where you are in the world; I guess I just never knew how big. You learn something new every day.
  3. Hi Kconkling, thank you for your reply. And it's okay if my video is confusing. It's an adjustment from what you're used to. Yes, the layers are very different from Photoshop's for sure. You basically get to choose how you want each layer to appear. A layer can be a curve, a group, text, pixel, layer container (what R C-R mentioned), or etc. You're the one who gets to choose on the organizational part. If you look at what is in parentheses next to each layer, it will say what layer type it is. It seems that you have a lot of pixel layers. If your client only wants vectors, then some web elements may not work. You can click on the arrow next to each group layer to expand it and see what layer types are nested inside. You do definitely have a lot going on there, but the good news is that you can have layers inside layers. So rather than try to sort everything in the Layers panel first, I would first start on your canvas. Group any like elements, so all of your parent layers are groups. (If you don't want everything in groups, you can change that later.) The first step would be to start small, the Home button, About Us button, all of those can be in one group. Then the next step would be to have groups within groups. Assuming you grouped the magnifier button, navigation button, and etc., that group and the group of the Home, About Us, and other button can now be part of a larger group. Now I know you don't want everything to be in groups, but this is a way to start building a tree structure. Once the layers look more sorted, you can go into each group and create a new Layer that serves as a container only; not group. Then you can move all grouped object from the groups and into the layer containers. Does this make sense? Yes. When the blue line is the same distance as the other layers, you are changing the order. If it is indented under a layer, you are putting the selection inside. Again, do be aware of what is in parentheses, because if you nest an object inside a Layer, you get a different result as oppose to nesting inside a group, a pixel, or a curve. You can only get Layers (with a capital L) by clicking on that New Layer button. And then they will only serve as containers, a way you want to organize your smaller layers. Then inside those, you can choose what to group. I hope this makes sense, because I know I said a lot. Let me or anyone here know if you need something clarified.
  4. I know what you mean. Choice of presentation is everything. Can it? That's interesting to know.
  5. I am facing issues with the Pencil Tool's sculpt mode in which the stroke smooths a little too much. At times, when I continue a path from its endpoint, the stroke does not match the outline. I'm trying to trace a sketch of a cartoon girl, and the stroke curves off from its original path. Is this anything that can possibly be fixed? Thanks. Auto-smooth Problem.mp4
  6. I thought the same thing Alfred did when I read the title, but this seems like a pretty neat take on things. I like it. And wow, that moon is huge!
  7. If it was here, I wonder if it was removed. Was it related to clipping and masking?
  8. I was a little confused about this one, so I had to experiment it. I think I understand now. The fill of each stop (shade) is displayed in the colour fill button as oppose to the entire gradient. Okay, I get it. And pressing the Esc key once resets the fill to the overall gradient. I like that change.
  9. Hi there, Andrew, I'm not trying to promote my stuff, but last year I did make a video on a beginner's guide of the software. This part of video at 7:38 explains the layers. Just in case it helps. Good luck on your journey!
  10. Hi R C-R, thank you for the explanation. Yes, each layer can be identified by the set of parentheses that follows it, and "Layer" with a capital L works as a layer container like you said. Very useful. And that's interesting what you said about each "Layer" getting their own color property. Is that a default behavior for you? Because my files are made up of dozens of capital L Layers, and the color properties are all blue by default. I do have the option to change the color, but they don't change automatically when creating new layers.
  11. There are different types of layers. By default, each object is its own layer (curve). To have them nest inside one, click the New Layer button and drag the curves inside that new parent layer. There are parent layers (nested layers) and child layers (curves). Be careful to not drag a curve inside another curve, or that will clip the object.
  12. Frank Jonen, I have to ask a pretty basic question, because you mentioned "groups." Do you get the option to lock children if you clip objects inside another? Like @>|< mentioned, locking children shouldn't be available for groups. It's available for clipping, but that doesn't necessarily mean all types of nested layers. Sorry if this seems too obvious.
  13. Hi Davg, I think I understand where you're confused. You want to know the reason for adding an additional mask when adjustment layers already have masks built in to them. The best way to answer is that different types of masks have different benefits. If you were to create an adjustment mask on an image and then recolor it, you could use a selection tool to subtract areas you don't want colored. (That only subtracts color.) Whereas, if you use a pixel mask, then using a selection tool to subtract areas will subtract the pixels (everything in the selection). I hope this helps.
  14. Think of a mask as to hide something on your layer. If you were to get a picture of a man walking and another picture of a door, the mask would allow you erase part of the man to make it look like half is in front and the other half is behind walking through. It allows you erase areas of the mask without erasing any actual pixels. Adjustment layers are more for correction.
  15. Yay! I do this very often. Thank you. That's strange. I got one.
  16. Technically, yes, each slice can be any size you make it, but from what I gathered, I think he is looking for a way to have them all the same size without going through each individually and manually making changes. I'm interested to know what you mean by this.
  17. For me, I only need one copy. You can render transparency to the same text as the one being blended. Do you not get the same result?
  18. Unfortunately, when you create your slices in the Layers panel in the Export Persona, they maintain the original size of each layer. To my awareness, there isn't a way to have each slice automatically maintain the size of the canvas. Anyone, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
  19. Hey I think I figured out an alternative. Use a blend mode on the text; "Erase." And then lower the opacity to your liking.
  20. You can change this in your preferences so you can select layers like you do in Illustrator. Under Preferences, go to Tools, and then tick off the box that says, "Select object when intersects with selection marquee." It's been so long since I used Illustrator now, I forgot that was one of the things it does.
  21. I believe that DrawPlus' Flood Tool's main approach was for coloring in artwork that was done in open paths. If someone draws more freely with strokes intersecting, it drops color filling up the enclosed regions without having to join or close any curves. The Flood Tool was neat in all, but you do get that gap space when editing the strokes. I would personally like an equivalent to Illustrator's Live Paint Bucket Tool; whereas the fill updates depending on how the strokes are edited.
