  1. Similar to the discussion MEB pointed out, you can have text flow within the borders of a shape, so you can imitate text wrapping. Just make sure you use the frame text tool and not the artistic text tool. Looking on the roadmap, I saw briefly a few replies from people who are excited for the feature, but I didn't see it listed. I'm curious now if it's going on or if plans changed. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10075-affinity-photo-feature-roadmap/
  2. I caught a bug. When resizing multiple objects at once with "Scale with object" checked off, the stroke to clipped objects do not update as the others do. There is also an issue with scaling cropped objects at the same time of scaling non-cropped or clipped objects.
  3. Oops. I misunderstood. This was the same issue I was having just a few hours ago. The adjustment layers and crop masks can be selected and edited by clicking on the thumbnail, not just the layer. I learned that today myself.
  4. Apologies. My problem is actually not solved. Maybe I don't understand after all, or maybe I'm facing a bug. I closed the path on the hair. Now I made another object to crop over it. The Xed area is what I don't want shown in my cropping area, but after I cropped it, I got a strange effect. Is this normal? Never mind. I see what I did wrong. I had the stroke selected instead of the fill.
  5. Thank you for the answers, guys. That's why I couldn't figure out how to remove a mask. I didn't know to click on the thumbnail to select it. And that's weird, I thought I already tried the Join Curves button, but it did what I wanted to do this time. All of my problems are solved now, but it doesn't look like the pen tool can be used for this unless it is connecting the same path. Am I wrong?
  6. Thank you very much for the help, MEB. Even though I knew about cropping, I didn't really understand the advantage. That will come useful now. Just two other questions, If I need to remove a cropping mask for any reason, how do I do that? And how do I connect two different paths so I can apply the mask?
  7. Click on the "FX" icon next to the layer you applied the effect on and then just hide any effect you don't want any more in the Effects panel. Hiding them actually removes them.
  8. I understand that closing paths is the ideal way to draw, but in certain designs, some segments need to be open. I want to know if it is possible to draw an object like in this screenshot and still have a fill applied without having to create the fill behind the stroke. I'll explain why I want to do this. When drawing characters, I divide each part of the body in its own layer (Front Hair, Head, Body, Back Hair). In this case, the character's hair is planned to be divided into two different layers. The Front Hair must be on top of the head, but the Back Hair must be behind the head and body. So the stroke that you see right now (aside from those few extra lines that were not drawn) is where I want to apply the fill for the Front Hair. Can this be done? Some programs like Cacani has a tangents feature in which the entire object is closed but different segments of the stroke are hidden.
  9. It didn't last night when I reopened it, but when I reopened the file today, it did prompt me to load a recovery. Plus, there was a new file on my desktop that wasn't there last night. It was a more complete version of my drawing. That is very strange but one heck of a relief. But the program did crash twice last night, so it might certainly crash again. As far as I can tell, there was no pattern of what triggered it. I can however say my computer keeps revving up, and I have previously installed dozens of programs this year (not all installed now). I think you were right when you said there might be a problem with my graphics card, but I'm not sure how to fix it. The other computer specs like CPU and memory are fine.
  10. Okay I think I understand now. Basically having an auto updater on the program when changing the source photo.
  11. There is some very strange bug that occurred. I kept saving my work, and then later on I got a popup of another unhandled file extension causing the program to crash. So I reopened my file to continue working, and I saw that I lost work I already saved. If I kept saving, then why would I not be able to view the last overwritten version? I do not want to do anything more just yet for in case I make anything worse. Please, is there a way to recover what disappeared?
  12. Well I hope it works for you. Waiting on Affinity Publisher might be a good wait. Anyway, can you explain how the linking feature works that you want? Back when I used InDesign, I had to embed the links or package the documents in order to reopen them, but I never understood or was told the use of the links. The packaging makes sense to me since all of the content is put in one folder, but the links do not make sense to me.
  13. I understand. Everyone learns and benefits in a certain way. But before considering Option B... As I was playing around trying to figure out a resolvent, I learned something for myself. There is an option to create a palette from a photo. To do this, import a photo into Designer, then open the Swatches flyout menu and select "Create Palette from Document." You are then asked if you want an application palette or a document palette. I don't understand the difference between those two, but either will create a palette of the colors in that photo. You can do this first, and then use them for your global colors. I hope this helps.
  14. Are you familiar with the "Global Colors" in the Swatches panel? Aside from the regular swatches, the global swatches will change every object of that color throughout your document.
  15. The option, "Find in Layer Panel," quickly indicates where that selected object is in the Layers Panel without having to dig through it. lol I thought you were serious at first with your first sentence. My sarcasm detector was getting weaker. I know, this is exactly what makes waiting worth it. Serif actually does the job.
  16. I didn't realize you were using a Mac. It sounds like the key commands have been slightly switched for Windows users. Here is the topic of all of the shortcuts for Mac users. (Page 4 of the Designer PDF is what you're looking for.) https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/15683-affinity-keyboard-shortcuts-gestures-and-expressions/
  17. I think it's fantastic how much each beta is addressed before the final version. I can name plenty of other programs that are released before being fully tested. Not too many programmers take this kind of time and patience any more. In short, keep it up.
  18. I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you looking into keeping the object the same ratio of size? Then check off 'Scale with object' in the Stroke panel. Watch your cursor carefully before selecting. If you are too far away from the object's corner, it will turn into a rotation indicator. Rotation is not caused by the Ctrl or Cmd key, just where the object is selected. Also, if you hold Ctrl and Shift at the same time while transforming the object, then you can constrain it and resize it from the center at once.
  19. I'm looking forward to it as well, but as promised by the Serif team, the first beta will come to Windows as soon as the Designer betas are complete. They estimated that it will be done before this year is over. That's soon! :D I can understand your struggle. I've been in an art/software slump for years, and I've been experimenting with various programs, and I just couldn't get into any. Then I realized Designer was on its way to Windows. What a shock that was. The point is, time, although is my weakness, is a very precious thing. Photo will be here before you know it. ;)
  20. That's strange. I am able to add points with the pen tool, but I see that they cannot be removed with the pen tool unlike as indicated with the minus icon. It takes another step; pressing the Delete key. In the case of adding points, take out the node tool. You can add and delete points with that one as well. (You can hold Ctrl to have the node tool temporarily.) Are you doing this with the pen tool as well? Because I'm able to do this fine. Are you clicking on the end point before attempting to extend the line?
  21. I'm glad your problem is solved. You have a great day yourself.
  22. It's interesting reading about everyone's art styles. Even though I always prefer vector for my work, I see many people prefer bitmaps. There is nothing wrong with that, and I understand why with the concept of free drawing as oppose to closed shapes.
  23. Designer is more geared towards graphics. Photo is more geared towards photo correction. I haven't used Photo yet, but I understand a lot of the differences through the forum. Having more control over text, shapes, rounding corners, transparencies, and vectors, I think Designer would be a better choice for you.
  24. For this, you can just hold Ctrl to select part of a group. You can select one path or multiples.
