  1. This is a very strange bug. When I have different parent layers nested inside each other, and then expand and collapse certain ones, another parent layer disappears. This is triggered by just expanding and collapsing, and it triggers the layers to reappear as well. Brenda Comic Page 1.afdesign Here is a file in which this happens. Dang it! I wanted to hold off in showing this and share it later, but we gotta work out the issue, right? See from the video how this is caused. Video.mp4
  2. I was going to post this in the Designer beta section, but I thought it would make sense to post it here instead since it could apply to any Affinity product. I also think it will help plenty of others to know as well. So my question is, how do you go about transferring all preferences such as custom keyboard shortcuts, styles, brushes, fonts, workspace, and etc. from the previous commercial version to the current beta? When a new beta is released, all the preferences are set to default, and I recall there was a way to match your previous setup. I just don't remember it.
  3. Does the same issue occur if you reset the studio? (Doing this will reset your workspace, so only try this if you want all the studios reset to their default location.) View > Studio > Reset studio.
  4. Debate aside, everyone is different. Everyone has different ways of completing tasks and different ways of learning. What works for me may not work for you or person X or person Y, so it all varies. It doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with learning from someone else even if it's not the way we would do things. The part that matters is people still try to be helpful by offering what they know. With that said, I hope you find what you're looking for, Marcy.
  5. *Like* for that statement. That was my favorite time of design.
  6. It's not the same as in Publisher, but I think the best alternative way is to convert a shape to a text frame. And what's good about it is that if you change the size of your image, you can still edit the shape of your text frame as well. Wrap_Text.mp4
  7. I assumed as much since I'm on YouTube a lot on my phone, and the view is in that same format. Yeah it's strange how that works, but I guess it makes sense since comments could go on forever. Therefor, it should be the last thing you see for any view.
  8. It looks like you have your window scaled very narrow. In a very tight view, the comments should be after the "Up Next" videos when the display is compacted like that.
  9. Aw bummer. I'm not sure then seeing how illustration is more of what I do, but if I get an idea, I'll let you know.
  10. Okay, I have a suggestion. The beta of Designer 1.7 introduced a new tool, the Point Transform Tool. I am aware of what it does, but I’m interested in learning its advantages. I’m interested in learning in what cases it can be used.
  11. YES! I do a lot of character drawing, and I know that some programs like Moho has a linking option in which different parts of a character can be transformed at once. I would really like this.
  12. I think some tools like the Pencil was left out as a way to draw an equal comparison between the apps. Publisher, just being in beta, can already do a lot of the tasks Designer can do. To make proper use of those personas, Designer would need to feature some tools specifically for illustration. That how I perceive it anyway. But hey, don't be afraid to ask. Like Stokerg said, you could always put it as a feature request.
  13. Hi there. I'm guessing that you're using Affinity Photo since the default adjustment nesting is different in Designer. You can have adjustments nest within pixel layers by default if you'd like. To the right of the snapping options on the main toolbar is an icon that looks like a tuxedo, the Assistant Manager. Clicking that will open a list of options. Change the one that says "Add adjustment as new layer" to "Add adjustment as child layer." Cheers!
  14. Hi Matt, I don't know if it's a bug, but it can't hurt to bring it up. When I have a shape selected and then have the "Insert behind the selection" button enabled, using the Pencil or Brush Tool to start drawing from behind the shape and work my way out, the stroke does not work in real time (if that's the right term). In other words, the Pencil Tool and Brush Tool do not leave a stroke as I draw. The stroke appears after release. I tested the the other two buttons, and the Pencil and Brush Tool do work in real time. It's just that first button that results to that issue.
  15. Don't worry about it. We're here to help you. Once a vector is saved as a PNG (raster), you cannot reverse the process. It's a one way conversion.
  16. Oh well look at that, even the outline effect is. Okay, you win the cigar. Okay well then that is the problem. The Affinity effects are not for exporting purposes. They will give you the pixelated look you are getting. You mentioned that you're having a hard time getting the right color. Could you elaborate on that? Maybe we can help you with that part. If you mean separate parts of a group, you can hold Ctrl and click separate regions of a group. Is that what you mean?
  17. I think you identified the problem. I forgot that most of the effects in Affinity are raster based. So if you add something like a gaussian blur our a bevel effect, then exporting the file to a SVG will pixelate those regions.
  18. Okay, let's see what we can figure out. What is the original program you used to create the elements? Was it Inkscape, or are you just testing the results in Inkscape? Because if there is no (pixel) shown in your Affinity file, then hopefully it's just Inkscape having a hard time reading the file. Does everything else appear okay when you read the file in Affinity? Or, are the colors off in there as well? Correct, but when vector files are brought into Photo, its quality slightly becomes pixelated. The part that I find impressive is that when they're brought back into Designer, it's pure vector again.
  19. Well there will be some roadblocks, but Affinity is the software I use for all of my illustration work now. It has too many features I've been looking for in software for a long time, so I just don't see myself switching. But I will say, however, Clip has some amazing functionalities. I love how the vector eraser can trim intersecting line segments.
  20. Anything that reads "pixel" is raster based. Text made in Affinity is always vector. There is something I learned from a digital artist that can be very controversy to graphic design. Raster based software like Photoshop, although is said to support vector layers, really support something called "vexel." Vexel layers support the same functions as vector, but they appear more pixelated. To my understanding, raster based software cannot support pure vector files. The quality will always be slightly off. It all depends all what your client is looking for, but I just thought I'd share that little something I learned. You just have to make enough groups so you can track your layers easier. From there, you can create layer containers to put the objects in, and then you can remove your groups as needed. Not a problem. PNG is indeed raster based, which is why they appear as pixel layers. I think converting the original files to SVG would be a better option. And looking at your screenshots, it looks like some text is vector and some are pixels. I would recommend not exporting your files as PNGs but a recognizable vector format.
  21. Thank you for your feedback. I'll see what I can come up with.
