Adobe Illustrator's Live Paint, Gradient Mesh and Blend Tool features are essential for vector illustration. If possible, please create those features for Affinity Designer.

"Maximize a window: Press and hold the Option key while you click the green button  in the top-left corner of an app window. To return to the previous window size, Option-click the button again." Doesn't work.

I know that you can add your own presets, but I really miss the large A0, A1, B1 etc formats in there as a default.

Thanks for all your suggestions 👌

I ended up with a different approach. Slightly weird.

    1. Click on the Live Procedural Texture layer with the mask.
    2. Click on the popup window, make it active, or resize it, doesn't matter.
    3. From the Layers panel go Live Filters > Procedural Texture
    4. And the now Procedural Texture layer now have the same settings as the original with the mask, just without the mask.
    5. Delete the original.

Set it to 500>resize the pixellayer smaller>set it again at 500 etc.
But be aware that it may take a big amount of resources to create an image of it.

    Hi!
I have Photo and Designer v1, and a full set of v2. I"m a professional designer and I have been an Adobe user for about 18-20 years and still am. And in version 1 of your app there was an option to use it as  photoshop or illustrator without the background of the app. Adobe calls it "application frame", you call it "split mode". And in v2, you don't have that. You have "float view," but it doesn't make sense. In "float view" the toolbar constantly wants to jump to the file window, and the file window can be positioned above the "studio" panels, and that's very strange. I really think Designer v1 and its FX add-on aka Photo v1 is the best illustrator/photoshop alternative on the market. But not v2. Give me back the "separated mode" and fix the weird UI behavior.

    Best wishes,
    Your disappointed user.

    Hi all,
I just ended up converting the text to curves.
Just calculating a layout grid where that had to be aligned from ascender to descender, as supposed to from cap height to baseline as one normally would

Without modifying a text baseline you can use the required descender height as the text frame's bottom inset, for instance:

    descender & frame height.m4v

Expanded and Compressed are style attributes of the instances in the variable font.
Affinity applications do not support variable fonts.
As is typical with these Apple development fonts, there are intentional errors in the static fonts which will cause issues in any applications which use the style groups.
So even trying to use the static fonts may also have issues.
There are fixed static versions available on GitHub, and in various font groups.

    That's right!
The help probably means the Napier's constant (Euler number), e = epsilon, since the Euler-Mascheroni constant = = gamma. - In Affinity e 's usage is probably more meant for APh equation filters, or they have forgotten to set it up globally for input fields.

Input Constant pi, π For Pi phi, gr, φ For golden ratio root2, rad, rt For Pythagoras’s constant e Euler’s constant
e to me is Euler's number ie 2.7 and a bit, base of natural logs
Euler's constant is 0.57721 and a bit so I'm not sure what the help means
Whatever, e doesn't work whereas pi, phi and root2 do so I suspect it's a Serif fart

PepGold reacted to NotMyFault in How to pack or fill a shape with another shape without collision? Possible?
I‘m unsure if this is the same method as @LeeThorpe mentioned, but the result looks different.
Use any Shape, and convert with frame text tool to text frame shape.
Then use glyph browser to add a circular glyph, followed by blank (to allow line breaks). Duplicate those 2 characters as needed.
Set color and text width as needed. Set text alignment to center.
    Notes:
text flow is always horizontal / left to right. But you can rotate the initial shape to any angle, click „Geometry->add“, the add text, and rotate back afterwards to create any angle for text symbols. Play with text alignment (center, left, right, etc)

One can also use some generative third-party scripting process for the shape based circle packing and then fit peaces in ADe together. - For example ...
I've used a tears like silhouette shape (black filled on white bg) image as a starting point here ...
Next I let a Python script packing routine fill the above shown silhouette shape image area with some random sized vector circles, as that looks much better and can also fill small regions of that tear shape with circles. The packed circled shape result will be in my case here generated as SVG vectors  ...

    tear-2.svg

Note: One can of course fine-adjust the circle sizes, their color, the amount of circles to use, for the shape packing generation run. I just used some simple defaults here.
In ADe one can fit then the peaces together ...

All in all it's a pretty easy and reusable generation process, which can be customized via settings to produce the wanted packing result then.

    Hi belief-begin-conjoin,
Unfortunately this isn't a feature, as well as the above suggestion, here's another.
Create concentric shapes within your main shape and use the text to curve feature with a filled circle glyph.
When you've got it "close enough" (it's a bit of a fiddly method) convert to curves and ungroup everything to tweak the shape positions.
The advantage of this would be the ability to alter the sizes and positions using the curve shape non-destructively until you finally convert it to curves.
Depending on the size and density this might not save you much time, but if it's quite dense I reckon it would save a bit of time.

PepGold reacted to GarryP in How to pack or fill a shape with another shape without collision? Possible?
belief-begin-conjoin: I did some experimentation with Live Filters in Photo and got the attached example, but it’s not what you asked for as some of the circles are still clipped by the shape. (I guess you could rasterise it and manually erase the bits you don’t want.)
I’ve also attached the document so you can play with it but you’ll have to figure out what I’ve done yourself as I can’t remember everything I did and not everything I did will have been necessary.
As has been mentioned above, the software isn’t designed to do this sort of thing automatically, and may never be.
I think your best bet might be to use a grid of circles over the shape and then ‘trim the fat’ where the circles aren’t wanted.

PepGold reacted to NotMyFault in How to pack or fill a shape with another shape without collision? Possible?
Unfortunately that functionality is not available in Affinity apps.
The closest similar functionality is Constraints in Designer, but limited to rectangular shapes and x/y axis.
