Thanks everyone! I've just fixed the missing place image tool icon and the blend ranges and 3d profile bugs. I'm building a new Beta version right now and will have it ready very soon. Sorry about these issues - they're artefacts of the work that is happening concurrently to produce Designer for iOS and they must've slipped under the radar - sorry

Your example is using vanishing perspective. I'm not dealing with that (yet). Parallel perspective is nice in that I can manipulate everything with our standard transformations - scale, rotation and shear.

I'll see what I can do for vanishing perspective, but it is going to be trickier.  As I mentioned before, I want to avoid if possible the need for objects/layers to have any supplemental data that links them to a plane, or pseudo-3D position.  More on that later... when I've spent some hours thinking about it.

    Greetings Affinity,

After downloading the AD 1.6.1-Beta 4 update, I noticed the Place Image Tool icon has disappeared from the toolbar (see attached - red box for emphasis). Can anyone else confirm this?

There is no reason to change it. You obviously understand it to have rewritten it and no one else in this thread or any previous customer beta thread has asked what it means, but if they do I'll be sure to point them at your post. Please keep this thread relevant to the contents of the beta and not the English skills of one of the most talented vector graphics programmers on the planet.

DXF/DWG export is something that has been requested previously. Our developers would like to add more export formats in the future and they have talked about DXF & DWG possibly being added.

    Hello,
I don't understand color conversion in AP. I have a color: #800000 what in RGB is 128,0,0 and in CMYK is 0,100,100,50. But in AP when I use CMYK project with Coated Fogra39, then I get different values with CMYK: 29,100,100,40
Ok, I set CMYK to standard value (0,100,100,50), but I get RGB 134,16,3 color value...
I don't understand why can I get different values on convert? This linked to ICC profile? Or why calculated different values?

    Very good news:

    - all preferences, styles, shortcuts.... got taken from previous beta
    - lens- and depth-blurr are now working really fast
    - perlin noise can be now a great texturizer :-)

Quite well, but not really good:
    - Svg are still "invisible" in media-browser, but blind taken and drag to canvas will open it as embed doc
    - the localization is sometimes too much/inconsequent. Eg in image-filter: Either you allways replace S(ource) and D(estination) with Q(uelle) and Z(iel) or you keep allways S/D. Keyword is ALLWAYS!
For stuff like this, i would prefer to have NO "translation" and you would keep the original acronyms
BTW: you should translate "posterize" to "Posterisation" and for "displacement" we have no short term which covers its meaning, but "Versatz" is quite wrong for what it does. Better would be "Überstreifen" (or let it displacement).

    Thank you Serif.

    Here's my two cents worth.
If this effort of mine proves useful to people, I'll try to create a pixel ruler as well.

I created 3 rulers of moveable zero point, accuracy as per Aff Designer v 1.5.5.

    They are:
1 ruler 30cm,all directions, divided in mm
1 ruler 15 inches, all directions, divided in 10ths
1 ruler 15 inches, all directions, divided in 16ths

How to & design details text is on the rulers page.
Using is simply a matter of copy & paste only the ruler itself to your document.
The rulers can also be used in Aff.Photo, but be aware : the default measurements of Aff.Photo are in pixels.

    Please feel free to improve/change.
If / when you do, I'd appreciate a personal message so that I can learn, thanks.
    Hope you'll find them useful,

    Enjoy,
    C.L.

    @ Phil-Rose :

I too, came from Corel Draw and I find the lack of an all-encompassing guide/ruler feature such as in Corel Draw my biggest disappointment with Affinity Products, both Photo & Designer.
Over the years there have been numerous feature requests by various users, but so far without results.
Maybe this could help you :
Forum >Resources :> AffDesigner 1.5.5 - Ruler with Moveable zero point
There are 3 downloadable files, 2x ruler & 1x Protractor  (work in later versions as well)
Download the Protractors >pick the one that suits your need> open the file> copy the protractor> paste on separate layer in your project.
On that same layer : draw angled lines to serve as guides > Make protractor itself invisible > lock the layer > proceed with your project.
    Best of luck
    C.L.

Hi everyone, I really love Affinity Designer and want to stick with it and will! It works really well but it has some really important (to me) features missing. I have used CorelDRAW for a very long time but it is definitely bloated and slow at this point. I guess it is still based on some sort of old technology.
Anyway, something I really like in Corel draw is the ability to have angled guides. You drag a guide onto the pasteboard just the same as Affinity and then as you can see at the top left of the screen grab I'm attaching, you get the option to change the angle. In fact, guides are added to a new layer which is, by default, set not print. This means you can lock the guides layer, move it up and down in the stack of layers et cetera. This is so useful in so many situations. Is this something Serif might consider adding to designer?
    Thanks. What do others think?

I assume that in your mind, your mean Professional = Corporate? I'm a developer, and I'm on the forum trying to help out. I have the best knowledge of our software, our code, and I can actually fix or implement features. Yet for some reason you would rather speak to a marketing person? Or a member of a support team? Or someone else that can't actually implement the change that you want. That's certainly not the feedback we've received from the majority of our other customers - they really appreciate being able to speak directly to development staff.

Steady on.  Not a great way to motivate us.

Priorities doesn't necessary just mean what we think is important, but also what things have to be done in a certain order, and whether those things collectively also are more important than other features which need attention. It is also a balance of how much work is actually involved in what might appear to be a small feature.

I have just spent months refactoring a lot of our internal tools in order to facilitate faster future development and enabling editing features across tools.  This was a big task, but the few changes and additions I have made off the back of this have already demonstrated that this was time well spent.  Now, as a user you will have no idea of the scale of the work involved in changing our internal framework while preserving the current functionality of our tools.

Software development is a fluid beast.  Only as our code base expanded did it become clear that things could be achieved in a different/better way.  Due to a lot of commitments already made, the changes I wanted to make got pushed back a number of times. I have now made them, and 1.7 will come with some significant additions - though the scale of work to implement them might still not be obvious to the end user.

This thread is to show a raft of new (hopefully innovative) features that are in the pipeline, and you are accusing us of pretty much doing nothing to improve the software...!? All of these additions will achieve 99% of the use cases that have been thrown up (while not tying you to a very limiting grid based drawing method) - the only exception being the ONE use case where you want to be able to easily replicate sets of curves built previously using known grid positions for handles. (If I am missing the other use cases, you will have to explain them individually). AND, I have already made many comments as to why this feature will conflict with our current tool usage, but I think I have even said that we will try and add it.  So what is the problem?  You are not going to be getting 1.7 Beta just yet anyway, so why is this turning into a rant?  We have heard your request, and while I would personally argue that placing curve handles on grid produces a very limited artistic scope, I will accept it is the way you like to work.

    @JET_Affinity

Something to understand about our Grids and Axis feature - they are complementary but work independently.  You define the axis direction for your grid, but you are not limited to using the grid for snapping.  All bounds snapping and constraining will follow the axis you defined.  So, for isometric, when holding Shift to constrain - you'll get containing to the axis of your isometric grid.  You are not required to place things on grid lines, but you can follow the grid direction.

Having the grid visible, but having "Snap to grid" turned off will give you the visual cues of the grid lines, but not limit you to placing objects on grid lines.

Alignment when snapping will follow the grid axis - again, you don't have to have snap to grid turned on, but you can align according to the directions of the grid.

The Pen and Node tool, for example, will also allow you to project alignments between curve handles along grid directions, and find intersections between projections between two handles.

As far as proportional scaling goes - that is how the create in plane and planar rotate features work - they are aware of the planar scaling and apply the correction. I had considered a mode for presenting sizes in planar units (for example, in the transform tab and the measurement tool) - that is something I'll look into.

As for the grid origin - yes, you will be able to arbitrarily place that anywhere you want, and use snapping to snap to objects in your illustration.  For planar grids with non-uniform axis, this will allow you to define the relative plane position into which you might snap to grid.

If there is anything I'm missing, you'll have to try the tools and see how they play.

I've not tried to copy any existing applications when making these tools.  I've just tried to think about how I'd want to draw isometric and find ways to make snapping, alignment and object creation work.  Hopefully that results in us being innovative rather than getting stuck in another applications approach.
