DXF certainly works well and is the definitive standard used by millions of vinyl cutters, lasers and CNCs daily - ask them! ...and it works for me too. All we now need is to get DXF support in Affinity Designer to make it even greater!

It depends on how the rotation will be done. He wasn't very clear about this. If  the object is rotated horizontally around it center (keeping the same point of view) a single non-destructive mesh (or preset) is enough. It's only necessary adjust the label which seems to be the case here. If he meant rotating the view point around the object (vertically for example) then he must create three different deformation meshes and would have to apply them to each one of the 20 labels.

    Hi Meb,
I am not really complaining. I guess I am very frustrated and disappointed because I really like Affinity Designer and I really want it to be my app of choice for any illustration project I create. This week has been very frustrating when using Affinity Designer without a perspective or warp tool.  Since time is of the essence for certain projects, you can see why I feel this way. I have spent so much time trying find a way to work around this and is not easy at times.

That being said, I have been very patient since the beginning of implementing AD into my workflow.  I want AD to do well, and I do appreciate all your efforts.

    cheers

    Hey Maxxx,

So now I'm not 100% sure I understand your question. (not sure what you're doing with the boxes)
If you mean rotating the result as in rotating a 3D object in a 3D space, then no Affinity does not have that ability like Photoshop CC (or Pshop Extended before it).
But if you mean rotate the result as in changing the label out quickly with another piece of artwork without having to redo the warp each time.... then you can set up a macro to do the "heavy lifting". Just place/paste in the new artwork, hit the macro, and you should be done.

But in any case.... yes, you're correct. The warp procedure is destructive. There is no way to change any individual design elements within the label after a warp has been done.

Edit: Oh, I think I get it re the boxes. You're using the live perspective filter. Which is itself editable, as well as the item(s) it's distorting.

Yes, it will be.  I still maintain that snapping handles to grid positions is limiting as far as control of curves goes, but people insist it is important, so I'm adding it.

You will be able to snap handles to anything that you can snap nodes to. But, the option will have to be turned on as an additional snapping option for the Node tool.  This will work in addition to all the smart snaps I've added for setting handles directions and lengths.

I'll do another video soon to show this...

You could try with the Transformation Panel. I hove the pointer over the width number and use the mouse wheel (Windows user) to increment/decrement by 1 pixel. I'm sure the gestures on the Touch Pad would do the same.
    Best regards!

I also have a Photo, but the layers get rasterized. I need to keep them vector.

Maxxxworld reacted to kevinmcsherry in CMYK problems with printer's RIP
Hi all. I wasn't sure where to post this question, since I can only see an option to post questions for the iPad. Mine is about Designer in OS X. Please move the topic if it's in the wrong place.

I create posters -usually around A1 physical size, they're a mixture of sometimes very complex vector layers (as I convert mono drawings as in the example attached) and raster layers for ageing and texture. They can be around 150 -200MB. I also create them in CMYK since I was told that the colour space has a wider gamut. I have converted to RGB for one large format printer and they've had no problem at all outputting posters.

Now -the problem: I sent these files as CMYK PDFs (reduced in physical size to A3) to a different printer, since that's what they wanted and my files caused all sorts of problems. Crashed the RIP (whatever that is) and generally took aeons to process. I had to cancel the task before I alienated this chap. Anyway, he said that the files weren't flattened -and that there were thousands of vector curves and the RIP couldn't handle them. So my question is -doesn't exporting to a PDF do the flattening anyway? Even after I exported to TIFF and then again to PDF, there were still problems. Can anyone tell me what best practice is for sending to a trade printer who wants CMYK files?

Looking forward to hearing from anyone with expertise!

    Best regards,
    Kevin

I was not quite sure where to post this but anyway, Back to the Mac is a weekly Mac-centric YouTube show that "considers all things Mac," produced by the 9to5Mac web site. Episode 2 is about the author's favorite apps, & Affinity Photo is the second one he discusses. There apparently is a giveaway of some sort (read the "more" blurb) with a copy of Affinity Photo & the Workbook as the prize.

Maxxxworld reacted to MEB in How do I warp text in Affinity Designer?
    Hi ThinkArgent.com,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums.
This is already on Designer's roadmap (which covers all new features until version 2.0) so it will come with one of the next updates. I'm referring to mesh warp distortions not to something similar to Warp Effects in Illustrator just to be clear. There's no eta for any specific feature (it depends on the development goes) so i can't add much more details at this point.

Any Distortion, Warp, or Perspective distort features soon?  This year?  Any date release?  I need to know if I need to change apps.
What is everyone else doing to get around not having Distortion or Perspective distorts in Affinity Designer?
    Any tips?

You mean the purple frames? These are snapping candidate indicators, and you can get rid of them by unchecking Show snapping candidates on the Snapping Panel.

Why are you changing to a TIFF?

1 Changing to CMYK is OK.

    2. Select the Hand tool and set Units to Millimetres

3 In Resize Document, set the size you want in MM

    4. Set DPI to 300 ,

5 In Resample: use Bilinear if sizing down, Bicubic if sizing up.

6 Make sure Resample is ticked.

    7 Click Resize.

    8. Export in JPEG or Tiff format for Quark.

Tiff files will be much larger (in MB) than JPEGs. If you use a high quality JPEG setting like 85%, that is considered "Press Quality".

I think it depends very much on the images. Do you know the source and resolution of all of them?

I certainly would not trust Quark for every image unless I knew the original resolution, colour format etc. That is why we use pixel editing programs like Photo or Photoshop rather than DTP programs like Quark.

But then, I'm a bit of a control freak
